• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Ademola Lookman’s unstoppable rise in global football is a story that resonates with perseverance, talent, and unyielding determination.

In a sport brimming with prodigious talents and fierce competition, Lookman has carved his niche through his dazzling performances and unwavering focus.

The year 2024 stands as a landmark in his career, with achievements that have earned him global recognition, culminating in his crowning as the African Footballer of the Year.

Born on October 20, 1997, in London, England, Lookman grew up in a multicultural neighborhood where football was a way of life.

Despite the odds, his determination set him apart from his peers. He began his career at Charlton Athletics Youth Academy, where his potential was evident from an early age.

In 2015, Lookman made his professional debut for Charlton’s senior team, and his meteoric rise began.

Within two years, his consistent performances earned him a move to Everton in the English Premier League.

His debut for the Toffees was nothing short of spectacular, as he scored against Manchester City—a goal that symbolized the arrival of a promising talent.

However, limited playing time at Everton prompted Lookman to seek opportunities abroad.

His move to RB Leipzig in 2018 proved pivotal. In Germany, he refined his skills, developed tactical versatility, and showcased the tenacity that would become his hallmark.

A subsequent stint with Fulham in the Premier League further honed his abilities.

But it was his transfer to Atlanta in Serie A that marked a turning point. This is where Lookman transformed into a world-class forward.

May 2024 witnessed one of the finest moments of Lookman’s club career.

Atlanta faced Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final, with the weight of expectations on their shoulders. Lookman delivered a masterclass, scoring a stunning hat-trick that secured a 3-0 victory.

This triumph was historic for Atalanta, earning them their first-ever European trophy. Lookman’s ability to thrive under pressure and deliver in critical moments was lauded by fans and analysts alike.

His hat-trick in the final epitomized his growth into a clutch performer—a player who could change the course of a game single-handedly.

On the international stage, Lookman shone brightly at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Representing Nigeria, he emerged as a linchpin in the Super Eagles’ campaign.

His creativity, pace, and clinical finishing were instrumental in Nigeria’s journey to the final.

Although the team fell short of winning the trophy, Lookman’s three goals and crucial assists ensured his place in the tournament’s Best XI.

His performance underscored his importance to the Nigerian team and his ability to compete at the highest levels of international football.

Capping off an extraordinary year, Lookman was named the African Footballer of the Year in December 2024.

This prestigious accolade, awarded by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), recognized his exceptional contributions to football.

In his acceptance speech, Lookman expressed gratitude to his coaches, teammates, and fans. “This award is not just for me,” he stated.

“It’s for everyone who believed in me and supported me through the challenges.” The honor solidified his position among Africa’s elite footballers and marked a defining moment in his career.

Lookman’s influence extends far beyond his on-field exploits. In Nigeria, his success has inspired a generation of young footballers.

His marketability and leadership have made him an indispensable asset. This is not just for his team but for Serie A as a whole.

However, these challenges have shaped him into the player he is today—a resilient, adaptable, and fearless competitor.
