President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on political leaders in Plateau State to embrace inclusive governance by appointing members of the Hausa/Fulani community to key positions in the state government and recognizing them as indigenes of the state.

The President made the remarks during a high-level dialogue meeting with political, traditional, and religious leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

  • Goldman Sachs Lowers 2027 Brent Oil Price Forecast Over Supply Growth, Demand Risks

Goldman Sachs has reduced its forecast for Brent crude oil prices in 2027, citing expectations of increased global oil supply and growing concerns over weaker demand.

The investment bank said rising production from major oil-producing countries, coupled with uncertainties surrounding global economic growth, could place downward pressure on oil prices in the coming years.

Analysts noted that slower economic activity in key markets and the increasing adoption of alternative energy sources may affect long-term demand for crude oil.

The revised outlook comes as energy markets continue to monitor geopolitical developments, production policies by major exporters, and changing consumption patterns worldwide.

Women breaking barriers in the Nigerian music industry are dispelling myths about female artist’s capabilities.

Women have always been breaking barriers and pushing boundaries in every industry, and the music industry is no exception.  From being denied access to certain genres and instruments to challenging traditional roles. Women have continually defied expectations and carved out their space in the music world.

The Nigerian music industry is witnessing a remarkable transformation as more female artists rise to prominence. This evolution is not merely a trend but a cultural shift that has significant implication. The Nigeria rich musical tapestry encompasses various genres where women are making significant strides.

Genres like Afrobeat, hip hop, and R&B showcase female talents, with artist blending traditional sounds with contemporary influences. Also, this fusion has not only amplified their reach but also solidified their status as influential figures.

From the likes of veteran singer, Onyeka Onewenu to contemporary artistes like Tiwa Savage, Omowunmi, and Waje. Women have been shaping the music landscape in Nigeria. They all have an indelible mark in the music industry in Nigeria.

Now, the question remains, why does it seem like these women have had to work twice as hard to achieve success in the music industry? And how have they managed to break barriers and rise to the top?

Firstly, let’s confront the harsh reality: men have long dominated the Nigerian music industry. It is no secret that the majority of record labels executives, producers, and decision-makers are men.

This has, unfortunately, created a culture where women often have to prove their worth and talent. Female artists face added pressure to exceed expectations before gaining acceptance. Instead of letting this discourage them, Nigerian female musicians have used it as fuel to propel them forward.

One of the biggest barriers that women have had to overcome in the Nigeria music industry is the stigma and stereotyping that comes with being a female artist. The music industry objectifies women, prioritizing physical appearance over musical talent.

This has led to female musicians being boxed into a particular sound or genre and limited in the types of songs they can create. However, over the years, we have seen women like Asa, Niniola, and Waje challenge these perceptions. Through their music we have seen them showcase their versatility.

Similarly, another barrier that women in the Nigerian music industry have had to overcome is the lack of representation and support from labels and media houses. In a country where the music industry is heavily influenced by the west, it is not surprising that record labels tend to focus on male artist.

They believe that male artists fit the stereotypical image of what a successful musician should look like. This has, unfortunately, resulted in talented female artists being overlooked and given fewer opportunities to showcase their music. With the rise of independent labels and the advent of digital platforms, women have been able to take control of their own narrative.

One of the most significant breakthroughs for the women in the Nigerian music industry has been the use of social media. They are able to build their brands and connect with their fans. With the rise of social media influencers and the power of viral content, female artists have been able to bypass traditional gatekeepers. They have reached global audiences.

This has not only given them a broader platform to showcase their music but has also provided them with a voice to challenge societal norms. Women in the music industry are now independent and advocating for change. For example, artists like Simi and Teni have used their music to address issues like gender inequality and empowerment. They are amplifying the voices of women and inspiring the younger generation.

Furthermore, breaking barriers in the Nigerian music industry goes beyond just creating music. However, women have also been at the forefront of challenging the industry’s status quo through business ventures and entrepreneurship. From starting their own record label to managing their own careers, women have taken charge of their own success. They are paving the way for other female artists to do the same.

Clearly, in a male- dominated industry where women are often seen as inferior and less capable, this has been a significant achievement. It is a testament to the resilience and tenacity of Nigerian female musicians.

Similarly, female artists in Nigeria are redefining the genre’s boundaries, using their platform to explore themes of empowerment and love. Women are diversifying the music landscape, they are attracting global attention and lifting the Nigerian music industry profile on the world stage.

In addition, to bring about  change and achieve gender equality in the music industry, we must challenge the underlying biases. Also, the responsibility falls not only on the women but also on men. They have to support and uplift their female counterparts in the industry. We must also demand accountability from record labels and other industry players.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that women have made significant strides in the Nigerian music industry. They have broken barriers and challenged norms and defied the odds that gender has no gender.

As a society, let’s actively break down barriers and create an inclusive environment. Women can achieve greatness through determination and hard work. Only then can we truly say that women have achieved equality in the Nigerian music industry.

Ultimately, a diversified music industry will not just reflect societal shits but will also empower everyone involved.

Women should be recognized as a force to be reckoned with.
