Akure —

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Kizz Daniel has revealed that the death of his mother caused his recent break from music.

The singer shared the disclosure on Friday, September 25, 2026, while responding to a fan on X who assumed that he had paused his activities because he was working on a new album.

His response clarified the reason behind his absence and offered fans a glimpse into a difficult period in his personal life.

The fan had suggested that album preparations were keeping Kizz Daniel busy.

However, the singer corrected the assumption. He explained that he did not pause his career because of an album.

Instead, he stepped away after losing his mother earlier this year. He also said he now has to keep moving for the rest of his family and apologised to fans for returning late this year.

Kizz Daniel, whose real name is Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, has built a strong position in Nigeria’s Afrobeats scene.

He first gained wide attention with Woju, which helped establish him as a major voice in Nigerian pop music. Since then, he has released several successful records and developed an international audience.

His catalogue includes popular songs such as Buga, Cough and Twe Twe. In particular, Buga, which he recorded with Tekno, became a major hit in Nigeria and beyond.

The song helped extend Kizz Daniel’s reach across Africa and into international music markets.

As a result, fans have continued to follow his releases and career developments closely.

However, his latest disclosure places his quiet period in a different context. Instead of a normal break between projects, the singer was dealing with a major family loss. Grief can require time, privacy and attention to family responsibilities.

Kizz Daniel’s statement shows that his professional schedule could not simply continue as usual while he dealt with the death of his mother.

The singer has experienced other personal losses in recent years. His father died in 2015. In 2021, Kizz Daniel also lost one of his triplets shortly after their birth.

In addition, he revealed in 2025 that his wife had lost her mother in 2024. He discussed that loss while explaining some of the personal experiences connected to his song Al-Jannah.

These experiences provide context for the singer’s decision to step away, although he has not shared extensive details about his mother’s death. Reports published on September 26 confirm that he has not publicly disclosed the cause of her death. Therefore, speculation about circumstances surrounding the loss would go beyond what he has said.

Kizz Daniel’s decision also highlights the pressure that comes with working in the music industry. Successful artists often have demanding schedules. They record songs, perform at concerts, travel internationally, attend promotional events and communicate with fans online. At the same time, they must manage personal responsibilities away from the spotlight.

His message also suggests that he is beginning to move forward. Kizz Daniel said he has to keep going for the rest of his family. That does not mean the loss is no longer painful. Rather, his words indicate that he wants to resume his responsibilities while continuing to deal with the loss privately.

His return has already started to take shape through new music activity. According to recent reports, Kizz Daniel released Owo Oluwa last week as the lead single from his upcoming fifth studio album, Radio Gidi. The album is scheduled for release on October 16 and is expected to contain 12 tracks.

Radio Gidi is also set to feature several Nigerian and international artists. Reported collaborators include FOLA, BNXN, Seyi Vibez, Tinie Tempah, Shatta Wale, Young Jonn, Krizbeatz, Wave Choir, Mannywellz, Kunmie, Qing Madi and Jahmiel. These collaborations indicate that the singer is preparing to return to a more active phase of his career.

Still, the timing of his return carries a personal dimension. Kizz Daniel has acknowledged that he was away because of his mother’s death. His upcoming music therefore arrives after a period marked by grief, family responsibilities and a temporary retreat from the public eye.

For fans, the disclosure may change how they understand his absence. Instead of viewing the quiet period simply as a delay in his music schedule, they now know that the singer was coping with a personal tragedy. His apology for coming late this year also reflects his awareness that listeners had been waiting for new material.

At the same time, Kizz Daniel has not indicated that his mother’s death will directly shape the themes of his upcoming album. It would therefore be premature to assume that Radio Gidi will focus on grief or family loss. The confirmed information is that her death contributed to his break and that he is now returning to music.

As the October release approaches, attention will likely remain on the album and Kizz Daniel’s next musical steps. However, his latest disclosure has added important context to his 2026 journey. The singer has explained that his absence was not caused by album preparations. He paused because he lost his mother.

Now, Kizz Daniel says he must keep moving for his family. His statement has allowed fans to understand the personal reason behind his silence while giving him space to continue his career. As he returns to the music scene, his supporters are responding with condolences and encouragement.

His return may bring more music in the coming weeks, but the reason behind his hiatus is now clear. Kizz Daniel stepped away after losing his mother earlier this year. He has now chosen to continue moving forward, both for his family and for the fans who have been waiting for his return.
