  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

  • Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo Alleges Boko Haram Infiltrated Nigerian Military, Links Claim to U.S. Troop Withdrawal

JOS, Nigeria — The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo, has alleged that members of the Boko Haram insurgent group have occupied strategic positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The cleric made the remarks in a video circulated on his social media page, where he discussed the security situation in Nigeria and the recurring violence in parts of the country.

According to Rev. Dachamo, the alleged infiltration of the military was the reason United States military personnel were withdrawn from Nigeria after, he claimed, they received security reports from troops deployed to assess the security situation.

He further alleged that the U.S. personnel had been sent in connection with concerns over what he described as the killing of Christian communities in parts of the country.

Rev. Dachamo did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims during the video.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the United States Government had not publicly confirmed Rev. Dachamo

  • Nigel Farage’s Resignation : Political Money, Broken Rules and the Africa Diaspora Question

Nigel Farage’s resignation as MP for Clacton has turned a parliamentary standards controversy into a wider test of political money, democratic accountability and migration politics. With major parties refusing to contest the by-election, the episode raises urgent questions about whether electoral theatre can be used to weaken parliamentary scrutiny — and what that means for African diasporas in Britain, Ireland and at home....

Metrics drive the digital music streaming landscape today. Fandoms analyze milestones like a stock market index. They use charting data as currency for cultural dominance.

Swapping the Streaming Crown
Artists frequently swap the crown for the most-streamed creator in African music. This constant shift reflects the meteoric rise of African sounds globally.

A New Record in July 2026
However, the first week of July 2026 brought a historic shift. Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known globally as Burna Boy, officially smashed an all-time record.

Dethroning the Queen of Amapiano
He achieved the highest monthly listener count for an African artist in Spotify history. The Nigerian Grammy winner peaked at an unprecedented 47.3 million monthly listeners. Consequently, he dethroned South African pop-amapiano star Tyla. She previously held a historic benchmark of 46.58 million listeners.

Setting the Internet Ablaze
This monumental achievement signifies more than a personal victory for the African Giant. Furthermore, the news completely set the internet ablaze. The milestone reignited the legendary stan wars on X.

Regional Clashes Over Pride
Fandoms from Lagos to Johannesburg clashed instantly over regional pride. They also debated streaming longevity and artistic impact.

The Rocket Fuel: How “Dai Dai” Conquered the Global Charts
A masterfully coordinated global rollout triggered Burna Boy’s rapid climb. He did not achieve this ascension through an accidental viral spike. Instead, a massive blockbuster anthem drove these streaming numbers. Burna Boy collaborated with Colombian icon Shakira on the hit song “Dai Dai.”

The World Cup Boost
The track functions as the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Therefore, the tournament gave the song an ultimate promotional boost. The duo delivered a high-energy, visually spectacular live performance during the opening ceremony. Millions of viewers immediately generated huge digital momentum for the track.

Reaching Number One Globally
“Dai Dai” quickly achieved a rare feat for African records. The track scaled to the absolute top of the Spotify Global Top Songs chart. This milestone marks a historic first for an African lead artist since 2016. Back then, Wizkid topped the charts with Drake on “One Dance.”

Conquering Western Markets

Heavy international radio rotation strongly supports the track now. Curators also gave the song prime placement on elite global playlists. Consequently, the song conquered major European and Western markets. It secured dominant top-ten positions across several nations.

Spain: No. 1
France: No. 2
Italy: No. 3
United Kingdom: No. 4

The Resilient Back Catalog

Indeed, “Dai Dai” provided the immediate rocket fuel for this breakthrough. However, an incredibly resilient back catalog anchors Burna Boy’s streaming numbers.

His 2022 Grammy-nominated smash “Last Last” still pulls in hundreds of thousands of daily streams. The track is currently closing in on 600 million solo streams. Thus, he proves his listener base possesses immense depth beyond temporary trends.

Battle Lines Drawn: The X “Stan Wars” Reach a Fever Pitch

Users never welcome a record-breaking chart update with quiet applause today. Instead, fandoms treat it like a declaration of war. Charting handles like Album Talks and TurnTable Charts verified the data. Immediately after, X erupted into a chaotic, cross-continental debate.

The conversation quickly transcended a simple celebration of African excellence. Instead, it fractured into a deeply polarized cultural debate. Two music powerhouse nations, Nigeria and South Africa, led this fierce online war.

The View from the Outsiders
Burna Boy’s supporters call themselves the “Outsiders.” They immediately flooded timelines with memes of a giant reclaiming his throne. Their core argument centers entirely on consistency and structural longevity.

They acknowledge that the global explosion of “Water” fueled Tyla’s historic rise. She also gained massive momentum from her recent single “Push 2 Start.” However, the Outsiders point to Burna Boy’s ten-year streak of dominance.

He consistently sells out massive global stadiums. Furthermore, he produces multi-platinum albums like African Giant and Twice as Tall. He also achieved massive success with I Told Them…. Therefore, his fans view this milestone as a natural validation. He built this incredible legacy brick by brick.

The Defense of the Tygers
Conversely, South African music enthusiasts swiftly defended her honor. Tyla’s global fanbase, known as the “Tygers,” joined the battle. They highlighted the sheer magnitude of her achievements.

The 24-year-old singer accomplished so much in a short span of time. She held the all-time African Spotify record for several months. She successfully held off the entire male-dominated Afrobeats vanguard.

This achievement represents a historic feat in its own right. Furthermore, her fans eagerly shared some exciting news. Tyla is currently preparing her second studio album, APop. She will drop the project later this month. Therefore, her fans promise a quick return to the top spot.

Debating the Spotify Metrics

The debate also veered into intense discussions about Spotify metrics. Critics argued that the World Cup heavily inflated Burna Boy’s numbers. They claimed Shakira brought in a massive, casual pop audience.

However, his defenders quickly countered these claims on the timeline. They reminded critics of Burna Boy’s standalone drawing power. He closed out the previous year with nearly two billion platform streams. This figure represents the highest single-year total for any African artist. Therefore, he possesses undeniable standalone drawing power.

A Golden Era for African Music Culture
We must strip away the loud social media noise. Then, an incredibly inspiring reality emerges clearly. African music currently commands a massive slice of the global streaming pie. An Afrobeats titan and an Amapiano-pop queen are fighting for the top spot. This close contest demonstrates the rich diversity of the continent’s musical exports.

Leading the Elite Tier
Burna Boy now comfortably leads an elite tier of African musical talent. These top stars consistently pull in numbers that rival Western pop icons. He leads a fiercely competitive pack on Spotify.

This elite group includes the Oscar-nominated songstress Tems. She sits strong at 40.64 million monthly listeners. The competitive tier also features Ayra Starr and Rema. Rema famously captured global attention with his hit single “Calm Down.”

Looking Ahead to the Future
Burna Boy is currently preparing for his massive “Unity Tour” later this year. He also frequently teases his upcoming solo studio album. Therefore, this Spotify record provides the ultimate launchpad for his next chapter.

He might retain the crown for the remainder of the summer. Alternatively, he might yield it back to the younger generation soon. The younger artists will drop a new wave of albums later in July.

Regardless of the outcome, the African Giant has left an indelible footprint on history. Observers clearly see one certain truth today. The kingdom of African music now displays immense global power.
