• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Do you know Ayden Heaven? If not, now is the time to learn about one of the most exciting young talents in English football.

From his early days in youth academies to his recent move to Manchester United, Ayden Heaven’s journey is nothing short of remarkable.

His rise has been fueled by talent, hard work, and the ability to adapt to challenges at every level.

As Manchester United continues its push for dominance in English and European football, the club has invested in young, promising players who could become the backbone of its squad in the coming years.

Heaven, a highly-rated defender with exceptional composure, technical ability, and leadership qualities, has been tipped as one of the players who could shape the club’s future.

Early Life and Youth Career

Born on September 22, 2006, in Enfield, London, Ayden Heaven displayed an early passion for football.

Like many young English players, his journey started at a grassroots level, where his raw talent quickly caught the attention of local scouts.

Recognizing his potential, his family supported his ambitions, enrolling him in structured football training programs.

His first major step into professional football came when he joined West Ham United’s youth academy.

It was here that he refined his defensive skills, learning the fundamentals of positioning, tackling, and ball control.

However, his career took a significant turn in 2020 when he made a move to Arsenal’s academy. This decision would prove to be pivotal in his development.

At Arsenal, Heaven flourished. His ability to read the game, make intelligent decisions, and contribute both defensively and offensively set him apart.

His work ethic was evident, and he quickly became one of the standout players in Arsenal’s youth setup.

In 2023, he signed a scholarship deal with the club, marking the beginning of his transition into senior football.

Breakthrough at Arsenal

Ayden Heaven’s performances in Arsenal’s youth teams did not go unnoticed.

His consistent displays in the U18 and U21 squads earned him recognition, and soon, he found himself training with the first team.

The 2023–24 season became a defining period in his young career.

With Arsenal competing in multiple tournaments, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup, opportunities for young players to prove themselves increased.

On October 30, 2024, Heaven seized his chance. He made his senior debut for Arsenal in an EFL Cup match against Preston North End, playing as a center-back.

His calm and composed performance helped the team secure a dominant 3-0 victory.

His presence in the first-team squad for Premier League and cup fixtures signified the club’s trust in his abilities.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, was particularly impressed with his adaptability.

He saw Heaven as a versatile player who could operate as a center-back or a deep-lying midfielder.

However, despite his promising future at Arsenal, football is unpredictable, and a new opportunity arose—one that would define his next chapter.

Move to Manchester United

On February 1, 2025, Manchester United announced the signing of Ayden Heaven, securing his services on a contract that runs until June 2029, with an option for an additional year.

The transfer came as a surprise to many Arsenal fans, but it was a strategic move by United, who have been actively investing in young talents.

During his unveiling at Manchester United, Heaven expressed his excitement and determination to contribute to the team. “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true.

This club has a history of nurturing young players into world-class stars, and I am ready to work hard and make my mark,” he said.

Manchester United’s football director, Jason Wilcox, emphasized the club’s confidence in Heaven’s potential.

He highlighted the defender’s intelligence, versatility, and leadership qualities as key reasons for the acquisition.

International Career and England Ambitions

Ayden Heaven’s talent is not only recognized at the club level but also on the international stage.

He made his debut for England’s U18 team in May 2024 and has since been a regular in the U19 squad.

His performances have caught the attention of England’s senior team coaches, and many believe it is only a matter of time before he earns a call-up to the senior national team.

England has a history of producing world-class defenders, and Heaven’s ability to play both as a center-back and a defensive midfielder makes him a valuable asset.

If he continues to develop at his current rate, he could become an integral part of England’s squad for major tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship.

Playing Style and Strengths

Ayden Heaven is known for his intelligence and versatility on the pitch.

While his primary position is center-back, he is equally comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder.

This adaptability makes him a valuable player in modern football, where tactical flexibility is crucial.

His key attributes include:

Defensive Awareness: Heaven has an excellent understanding of positioning, allowing him to anticipate opponents’ movements and make crucial interceptions.

Aerial Dominance: Standing at 1.89 meters, he is strong in the air, making him a reliable presence in both defensive and attacking set-pieces.

Technical Ability: Unlike traditional center-backs, he is comfortable with the ball at his feet. His passing range and composure allow him to build play from the back.

Leadership and Mentality: Despite his young age, he has demonstrated leadership qualities on and off the pitch. Coaches and teammates have praised his maturity and dedication.

Challenges and Future Prospects

As with any young player making a transition to a big club, Ayden Heaven faces several challenges.

Adapting to the intensity of the Premier League, competing for a starting spot, and handling the pressure that comes with playing for Manchester United are just a few hurdles he will need to overcome.

However, if he maintains his strong work ethic and continues to develop under top-level coaching, he has the potential to become a key player for Manchester United and England.

What the Future Holds

With his move to Manchester United, Ayden Heaven has entered a new phase in his career.

The Premier League is known for its competitiveness, and performing at a club like United requires consistency and resilience.

If he can rise to the challenge, he could follow in the footsteps of legendary defenders who have graced Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s rich history of developing young talents—including players like Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidić, and more recently, Lisandro Martínez—suggests that Heaven is in the right place to achieve greatness.

In conclusion, do you know Ayden Heaven? Now you do.

His journey from a promising youth player at Arsenal to a rising star at Manchester United is a testament to his dedication, talent, and perseverance.

As he steps onto the grand stage at Old Trafford, football fans worldwide will be watching closely, eager to see how his story unfolds.

If his past achievements are any indication, the best is yet to come for Ayden Heaven.

Whether in Manchester United’s iconic red or England’s Three Lions jersey, he is a player with the potential to leave a lasting legacy in football.
