Wasiu’s apology still pending as AGF, IG still to decide

On Friday, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), reaffirmed the fate of fuji icon, Wasiu Ayinde (Kwam 1), widely known as K1 de Ultimate, still awaits decision by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, whom have received the petition against the fuji musician.

According to Michael Achimugu, NCAA spokesperson, in an interview, stated that KWAM 1’s public apology , after his controversial outburst with the staff of the ValueJet Airline, which took place on Tuesday, 5th August, 2025, at the local flank of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

In own-written statement, signed and shared on Friday, Mr. Wasiu called the incident “unfortunate”, stressing that it was never in his plans to make any fuss, disruption or hassle for the aviation authority in any way.

The face-off at the airport was recorded in a widely shared video on the internet on Wednesday, with KWAM 1 was spotted attempting to impede the plane’s take-off.

The ignoble incident attracted widespread public criticism, with Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority hitting the fuji musician with six-month travel ban.

The pilots involved have, reportedly, been suspended and placed under investigation.

On Thursday, the NCAA also stated that it had submitted a petition to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, requesting the singer’s trial and prosecution.

Howbeit, the singer, in a viral video on Friday afternoon, issued an apology for his shocking conduct.

When question about NCAA’s next move after KWAM 1 apology, the spokesperson said he had not seen or heard about the apology.

However, he furthered that the NCAA is bereft of the power to prosecute any offender, stressing that: “We have referred the case to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are better positioned to determine and communicate the next steps.”

on the other hand, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in a reaction to Mr. Wasiu’s apology, which he confessed having seen on social media, said the issue would demand proper deliberation.

“We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it,” Keyamo wrote in a WhatsApp message to our correspondent.

Meanwhile, when questioned if the petition written by the NCAA against Wasiu Ayinde had been received by the police, Muyiwa Adejobi, the force spokesperson, stated that he might need to check the police records.

He promised to get back, but he had yet to do so at the time of filing this report, and subsequent calls placed to his mobile line rang out.

As it is, efforts, put in place, to reach the Attorney General of the Federation proves futile.

According to Mr. Wasiu’s apology released on Friday, the fuji icon said: “The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and Value Jet Airline, was, to say the least, unfortunate.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water, not alcohol, as wrongly alleged.”

the popular fuji musician also stated that he passed through two security screenings with the empty flask. According to him, the flask was only filled with water at the lounge, just before he headed to the tarmac; a fact which he said can be verified by the CCTV footage at the airport lounge.

Reiterating his “unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty” to the country, the ‘Ade Ori Okin’ singer said, “Over the years, I have consistently used my God-given talent and platform to promote the Nigerian brand across the globe. I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades, nor would I knowingly act in a way that could diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly.

“That said, the incident is sincerely regretted. I remain committed to upholding the values and responsibilities that come with being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.

“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

it is to be recalled that the video of the musician locked in an altercation with officials of the airline went viral on the social media amid the week. In one of the clips, K1 is seen standing in front of a jet, before the plane suddenly began to move in preparation for take-off, with its wing almost hit the singer, who had to duck as he was almost hit on the head by the aerial.

In the coming days, the world is waiting to hear and see the outcome of the fuji legend’s ill-action who has just issued a public apology following his public misconduct, with many music lovers saying that KWAM 1 should have comported himself better in the public, being a public figure. He should also be a good role model to the up-and-coming artistes who look up to icon as he is.
