Bode George: PDP will collapse if Atiku wins 2027 ticket as Dele Momodu suggests the governors rebuffing coalition for Tinubu

Former Aviation Minister and A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Bode George has cautioned the party over allowing Atiku represent the Party in 2027.

Chief Bode George states that the party will collapse if Atiku Abubakar secures the ticket to represent the party in 2027 presidential election.

“If he (Atiku) picks it (PDP’s ticket), that is the end of this party. If he picks it by manipulation which was what was done the last time, we will not accept it,” Bode George stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, April 14.

Atiku, who was the vice president to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007, has been in the presidential running for more than thirty years, contesting under six different political parties.

The former vice president trail-blazed the birth of a coalition party on Thursday, 20th March, 2025, in a bid to unseat the incumbent President Bola Tinubu.

The coalition of the new party was co-championed by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, amidst others.

Howbeit. The matter taking a twist, on Monday, 14th April, 2025, governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rebuffed the coalition pioneered by Atiku and ruled out any prospect of merger and coalition.

While speaking on a Television Programme on Monday, Bode George praised the PDP governors for rebuffing the coalition championed by Atiku.

George disclosed that Atiku had not proved himself a worthy leader of the party because he has failed to settle the intra-party conflict that has militated against the prospect and success of the party in recent times.

Bode George said: “No, if he is the leader of the party, he would have waded into it (the crisis).

“The fact that he was the presidential candidate of the party at the last election doesn’t mean he is a bona fide, fixated leader of the party. If he’s running for his private interest, it’s different from the interest of the party.”

When asked if Atiku would be allowed to become the flag bearer of the party in 2027, the PDP chieftain answered: “He cannot be. This is what I am saying. There was eight years in the north, there should be eight years in the south.

“That is the dictate, that is the doctrine of the PDP. I can’t say he cannot contest; he can go to any party because it is his constitutional right but as far as we are concerned, he cannot be the candidate.”

“There are rules. Section 7, Sub-section 3C of our constitution. It states that once the presidential candidate has been in the south for eight years, it had to go to the north.

“And after another eight years, it would come to the south. Is Atiku from the South-West, South- South or South-East?” George asked.

The former Aviation Minister also said he would not want Tinubu re-elected in 2027, stressing that he wants PDP to win the next election with a candidate from the southern region of the country.

PDP Governors Rebuffing Coalition Might Be For Tinubu – Dele Momodu

Media mogul and the publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu says that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, who are rebuffing merger or coalition with other parties may be secretly doing so for Tinubu.

In a statement released to air on Monday, the PDP governors rebuffed and ruled out the prospect of merger and coalition with other parties in a bid to unseat the incumbent president Bola Tinubu in 2027 Presidential Election.

In recent week, talks have been reported to be ongoing between opposition parties to form an alliance in a bid to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress in the next general elections.

On Monday, during a live programme on Arise Television, Dele Momodu claimed that none of the opposition parties can personally defeat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 Presidential election.

He noted that if there were chance of another party coming to power, merger or coalition of opposition parties must seriously be considered.

The former presidential candidate advised the opposition parties to come together and adopt similar strategies the ruling party (APC) utilized in 2015 to unseat then-incumbent president−Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

“Opposition leaders are very determined this time around to work together. The truth of the matter is Atiku cannot do it alone, Peter Obi cannot do it alone, and Rabiu Kwankwanso cannot do it alone,” Momodu said.

“So, naturally, they have to find a way to pay APC back in its own coins by trying to get at least a chunk of all the parties, including the APC, to come together.

“If our governors are saying no, we don’t want to go into a coalition, then it means that surreptitiously you are probably working for a Tinubu presidency.

“People must learn from history; a bully only respects a bully, but all of us are already behaving like chickens. Anything, people panic, saying they are going to use the EFCC or arrest them.

“Any governor or any senator or house member who may be tempted to just jump ship may jump to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.”

It remains to be seen if the alliance will be an effectual and formidable one as many fingers are crossed, waiting to see the outcome in 2027.
