• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Inclusive education empowers students with disabilities to reach their full potential and participate equally in society.

In today’s diverse society, the importance of inclusive education for students with disabilities cannot be overstated.

Inclusive education is not merely a trend. it is a fundamental right that fosters equality, promotes understanding.

Firstly, it is essential to understand the meaning of inclusive education. It is a teaching approach that ensures all students, regardless of their abilities have equal access to education.

Inclusive education is not just about physical accessibility but also about accommodating different learning styles and needs.

It promotes diverse and accepting classroom environment, where students can learn from one another and foster a sense of community.

One of the most critical aspects of inclusive education is that it provides equal opportunities for students with disabilities to receive quality education.

However, with inclusive education, these students can now attend regular classes and receive the necessary assistance to help them learn and grow.

This not only benefits students with disabilities. It also allows their non- disabled peers to learn and interact with them.

This will promote an inclusive mindset from a young age.

Inclusive education also cultivates a sense of belonging. When students with disabilities learn alongside their peers, they experience the same social interaction and friendship that are vital for emotional development.

This integration helps break down barriers and dispel misconception about disabilities.

As students engage with one another, they learn empathy, compassion, and respect.

Consequently, they develop a more profound understanding of diversity, which is essential in our increasingly interconnected world.

Also, inclusive education enhances academic outcomes for all students.

Research consistently shows that when students with disabilities are included in general education classrooms, their peers’ benefits as well.

Teachers adapt their instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners. This leads to improved teaching practices.

For instance, differentiated instructions and collaborative learning not only supports students with disabilities. It also challenges and engage their classmates.

As a result, everyone in the classroom becomes a better learner.

Moreover, inclusive learning also helps in breaking down barriers and reducing the stigma towards individuals with disabilities.

Inclusive Education: Empowering Students With Disabilities

It creates a sense of belonging for these students in a society that often view them as different or unable to contribute.

By including students with disabilities in regular classrooms, it normalizes their presence and showcases their abilities and talents.

This, in turn, can lead to a more accepting and inclusive society in the future.

Inclusive education also has a positive impact on the academic and social development of students with disabilities.

In a supportive and inclusive classroom, these students can develop their skills and knowledge at their own pace while receiving assistance from their teachers and peers.

It allows them to interact and form relationships with their non-disabled peers.

This will lead to increased self-esteem and a sense of belonging. It will help positively impact their academic performance and overall well-being.

Another crucial point to note is that inclusive education not only benefits students with disabilities. It also has a positive impact on their families.

By providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment, it eases the worries and concerns of parents and guardians.

It also allows them to see their child as a capable and valued member of the society, which can be empowering for both the students and their family.

Another aspect of inclusive education that cannot be overlooked is the role it plays in promoting diversity and equity.

Inclusive education creates a learning environment that celebrates differences and teaches students to appreciate and respect one another.

It goes beyond mere tolerance and instead fosters a sense of empathy and understanding.

Inclusive Education: Empowering Students With Disabilities

By promoting diversity and equity, inclusive education prepares students to live in a society that is diverse and inclusive.  A society where everyone is valued and respected.

In addition, inclusive education prepares students for real-world experiences. Students must learn to navigate life outside the classroom effectively.

Interacting with peers of varying abilities, students develop essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

These skills are invaluable in the workspace and in the society at large.

Therefore, inclusive education equips all students with tools they need to succeed in a diverse world.

Furthermore, inclusive education promotes higher expectations for students with disabilities. When placed in an inclusive setting, these students often rise to the occasion.

Teachers and peer alike begin to see capable individuals rather than labels.

This shift in perception can lead to increased motivation and self-esteem, which are crucial for academic and personal success.

However, achieving true inclusivity requires commitment and effort from all stakeholders.

Schools must provide adequate training for teachers to equip them with the skills necessary to support diverse learners.

Policymakers must allocate resources to ensure that schools have the tools and support systems needed to implement inclusive practices effectively.

Parents and communities also play a vital role in advocating for inclusive education and fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding.

In conclusion, inclusive education is not just beneficial; it is essential. It fosters belonging, enhances academic outcome, prepares students for the real world.

Prioritizing inclusive education will not only empower students with disabilities. It will enrich educational experience for everyone.

As we move forward, let us commit to creating inclusive environment where every student can thrive, learn and contribute to society.

The future depends on it.
