• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

UCL Play-Off: Real Madrid Vs Man City as pair set to reignite rivalry again

Today is another day for football lovers who enjoy great rivalry among foot clubs as Real Madrid and Manchester City set to battle it out tonight.

Fans of both great football clubs are set to watch and experience exciting football match tonight in the UEFA Champions League play-off match between City and Real.

Ahead of tonight’s Champions League play-off match, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti argued that Manchester City are the greatest rivals and favorites to win the most coveted club football prize despite their recent deep in form.

Ancelotti, who has enjoyed trophy-laden seasons with the Galaticos, has laid down a marker prior to their Champions League encounter with City by saying whoever comes out victorious after the match will surely win the trophy in May.

Tonight’s match will mark it four years in a row that Real Madrid and Manchester City will face each other in the Champions League−with Real Madrid recoding victories twice and Manchester City the other−which has prompted the Real Madrid’s boss to tag their rivalry a new ‘Classico’ prior to tonight’s match.

In all three of those previous matches, the club that emerged victorious had gone to win the Champions League trophy−as per Man City’s case, they won their first-ever Champions League trophy in 2023.

However, this season has been nightmare for both clubs who suffer deep in form, with City less than thirty minutes away from being eliminated from the competition altogether in the league phase before eventually rallying back to see off Club Brugge in their final group game.

Shocking Real Madrid loss in Lille and at home to AC Milam have seen them finish one point off the automatic last-16 qualification spots and also descended into play-off round.

Woah!!! They Meet Again

In 2021/22 season, Real Madrid were trailing 5-3 on aggregate which saw them to stretch the game to extra time in the semi-final match with a brace from Rodrygo before a spot kick converted by Karim Benzema penalty to complete comeback win for the Galaticos.

In 2022/23 season, Manchester City had a chance to avenge at the same stage of the competition, humiliating Real Madrid 5-1, on aggregate in the Semi-finals, to reach the final.

In 2023/24 season, Manchester City took the lead twice in the quarter-finals first leg at the Berbabeu before the match eventually ended in a three-all draw. The second leg ended in 1-1 draw, with real Madrid advancing to the next state on penalties.

Just unlike City, Real Madrid side have always maintained their home form and topped the Laliga table by one point, despite another surprise defeat at Espanyol at the beginning of the month.

With both team’s struggling in the Champions League up till the moment, City continue to struggle in the Premier League.

Considering their meetings previously, it emerged that whoever won the contexts went on to lift the Champions League trophy. Ancelotti has backed the winner of tonight’s fixture at the Etihad Stadium (Manchester City home) to go on and lift the trophy in May.

“It is always a headache to face Manchester City,” he said.

“It will be a difficult game, hard to predict. It will depend a lot on the attitude and confidence of the teams. It’s such a high-level game you have to be at your best in every aspect.

“It seems like it’s a ‘Clasico’ because we have played each other a lot of times in this competition. It’s the most difficult game we can face, regardless of form.

“They are one of the best teams in Europe and they have the best manager out there. It’s a nightmare preparing for games against him because he always has ideas that make you think.

“I am convinced the team that goes through from this tie will go on to win the competition.”

Pep: We can Still Give Something Special

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola claims that front four of Real Madrid are overwhelming and ‘impossible’ to stop.

UCL Play-Off: Real Madrid Vs Man City

Guardiola, who has expressed doubt and negativity about his team several times this season, experience one win in thirteen matches from the end of October to the Boxing day, will come out blazing ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League play-off match against Real Madrid in defense of his recuperating side.

In Champions League this season, Manchester City have not lost any match, but have not had it easy in the domestic league after losing at home to their archrivals, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspurs before Christmas, before the signings of four players for a huge sum of £176m during the last month’s winter transfer window.

“We are where we are, and I know perfectly but the team has something special and hopefully we can prove it,” Guardiola said.

“I will not deny how I trust with the players who gave us that incredible decade, winning a lot of things and playing a high standard, I know what we are capable of.

“To be honest it is always better to have a second leg at home in case you have extra time with your people. We play the second game away because we were not good in the group stage – when you finish 22nd you cannot ask for any favors.

“In football you have to deserve it – we do not deserve it. We were not even close. That’s why when the draw was either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, I thought that is what we deserve.”
