  • Goldman Sachs Lowers 2027 Brent Oil Price Forecast Over Supply Growth, Demand Risks

Goldman Sachs has reduced its forecast for Brent crude oil prices in 2027, citing expectations of increased global oil supply and growing concerns over weaker demand.

The investment bank said rising production from major oil-producing countries, coupled with uncertainties surrounding global economic growth, could place downward pressure on oil prices in the coming years.

Analysts noted that slower economic activity in key markets and the increasing adoption of alternative energy sources may affect long-term demand for crude oil.

The revised outlook comes as energy markets continue to monitor geopolitical developments, production policies by major exporters, and changing consumption patterns worldwide.

Royal Division Overshadows Eid-el-Kabir in Kano

The throne divide: Politicians vs. Kingmakers has sparked a national debate about the role of traditional monarchies in modern governance.

The Emirship of Kano has been at the heart of a contentious debate that has reverberated through the political and traditional landscapes of Nigeria.

With the city’s deep-rooted history and influence, the Emir’s role is not merely ceremonial. It is a position that symbolizes authority, culture and tradition.

However, the recent events bring the future of the throne into question. it leaves the people of Kano, as well as legal experts, in a state of uncertainty.

At the centre of this debate is the contentious dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano.

The subsequent appointment of Aminu Ado Bayero, has created a rift between traditional authorities and the state government.

This article explores the legal, political and cultural intricacies surrounding the issue. It calls on traditional leaders to resolve the matter.

The Throne Divide: Politicians Vs. Kingmakers

The Dethronement of Muhammadu Sanusi II Remain A Legal Quagmire

Initially, in March 2020, the former Governor of Kano Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje dethroned Muhammadu Sanusi II, citing his alleged disobedience and public criticisms of the state’s administration.

The controversy over the Emirship of Kano is emblematic of a broader struggle between tradition and politics in Nigerian governance.

It stems from the fact that no court has issued a formal ruling on the matter, despite claims of a circulated court order.

Furthermore, The Kano State Government has continuously asserted that, it has not received an official legal judgment on the matter.

Legal experts and some traditionalists, argued that the removal was not only improper but also unconstitutional.

The absence of a definitive court ruling has left the question of legality hanging in the balance. It has further intensify the division over the throne.

This legal uncertainty remains a crucial point of contention, as both political and traditional factions continue to advance their dynamic claims.

The Custodians of Kano’s Heritage

One of the most significant aspects of the controversy is the role of the traditional kingmakers.

These respected elders are vested with the power of selecting the Emir.

Their authority has long been upheld as integral to Kano’s rich cultural heritage.

Moreover, the kingmakers have openly opposed the decision of the state government to remove Sanusi.

The Throne Divide: Politicians Vs. Kingmakers

They argued that politicians had usurped their traditional prerogative and continued to demand Sanusi’s reinstatement.

The kingmakers, deeply embedded in the cultural and political fabric of Kano, represent the values of continuity.

They represent heritage passed down through generations.

Also, their opposition to government’s intervention underscores a critical tension between political authority and traditional leadership.

The state government and some factions within the political class endorse the legitimacy of Aminu Ado Bayero as the Emir.

They insist he is more qualified for the position, been the biological son of late Alhj. Ado Bayero, the (former Emir of Kano).

In the same vein, the kingmakers and a substantial segment of the population remain steadfast in their allegiance to Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Guarding The Traditional Autonomy

Another vital dimension of this debate is the role of legislative bodies in protecting the integrity of traditional institutions.

Currently, the influence of political authorities over the selection of the Emir raises concerns about the erosion of traditional power.

However, to mitigate such interference, there is a growing call for the establishment of laws that preserve the autonomy of traditional leadership.

The Throne Divide: Politicians Vs. Kingmakers

The legislative assembly should enact reforms that limit government intervention in the affairs of the Emirate.

Ensuring such matters remain within the purview of traditional rulers.

The increasing politicization of the Emirship has led to calls for greater separation between governmental functions and the traditional system.

The legislative authority must intervene and provide clear legal frameworks that respect and reinforce the sovereignty of traditional leaders.

The Nigerian legislative body must take decisive action to shield traditional institutions from excessive political interference.

Such measures would help to avoid future disputes and preserve the dignity of the Emirate system.

The Throne Divide: Politicians Vs. Kingmakers

A Call for Consensus

Ultimately, the resolution of the Emirship dispute rests with the traditional heads of Kano.

These influential figures have the unique responsibility to mediate between the legal and political forces at play. Ensuring that the integrity of the traditional system is upheld.

The kingmakers, alongside other traditional leaders, must come together to settle this matter in a way that aligns with the Northern and cultural values.

The ongoing crisis calls for a solution that is not only legal but also cultural and morally grounded.

Also, traditional leaders must make the decision about who occupies the throne in a manner that fosters peace and stability.

The call for the involvement of traditional heads is not merely symbolic but necessary to restore order and absolute legitimacy to the Land of the Emir.

In Conclusion, The Emirship position is a symbol of unity and continuity.

Traditional leaders must make their voices heard and demand respect as the issues unfold.

The kingmakers, who represent the collective will of the people and, are custodians of the region’s culture, must be given the authority to determine the rightful ruler.

The integrity of the Emirate system must be preserved. The power of traditional rulers should not be diluted by political maneuvering.

We must find a clear, fair, and culturally informed resolution now.

A resolution that respects the legal framework and the rich history of the Emirate of Kano.
