• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Ons Jabeur’s bold moves on the court have redefined women’s tennis, blending creativity, resilience, and fearless shot-making.

She is one of the most dynamic players on the WTA Tour.

She captivates audiences with her unpredictable strategies and stunning finesse.

Her unique approach, marked by daring drop shots, clever angles, and relentless determination, has propelled her to the top of the game, making her a trailblazer for Arab and African athletes.

The Rise of a Tennis Trailblazer

Born on August 28, 1994, in Ksar Hellal, Tunisia, Ons Jabeur’s journey into tennis was anything but conventional.

Growing up in a country where football dominated the sports scene, tennis was not the most accessible path.

However, with unwavering determination and a supportive family, she pursued her passion despite the limited training facilities and resources available in Tunisia.

Jabeur’s first major breakthrough came at the junior level when she won the 2011 French Open girls’ singles title, becoming the first Arab woman to claim a junior Grand Slam trophy.

This victory hinted at her potential, but transitioning to the professional tour would demand even greater resilience.

Without the same financial backing or infrastructure enjoyed by players from traditional tennis powerhouses, Jabeur had to navigate a difficult path to reach the top.

A Game Built on Creativity and Courage

Ons Jabeur’s style of play sets her apart from the rest of the WTA Tour.

Unlike players who rely primarily on power and baseline rallies, she thrives on unpredictability.

Her ability to mix powerful groundstrokes with delicate drop shots, sharp angles, and sudden changes in tempo makes her one of the most creative players in the sport.

Ons Jabeur’s Bold Moves On The Court

One of Jabeur’s signature weapons is her drop shot, a tool she uses with extraordinary precision.

Opponents often struggle to anticipate her next move, as she seamlessly switches between aggressive hitting and subtle finesse.

Her variety makes her a nightmare to play against, as she can outthink as well as outplay her competition.

Beyond her shot-making, Jabeur’s willingness to take risks is what truly defines her.

Many players hesitate to attempt unconventional tactics in high-pressure moments, but she embraces them.

Ons Jabeur’s Bold Moves On The Court

Whether facing a break point or serving for a match, she does not shy away from bold choices, which often lead to spectacular results.

Breaking Barriers for Arab and African Tennis

Jabeur’s achievements extend beyond individual success.

She has shattered barriers for Arab and African athletes in a sport historically dominated by players from Europe, North America, and Australia.

Before her rise, no Arab woman had ever reached the heights she has in the WTA rankings, nor had any African woman in the Open Era made it to a Grand Slam final.

Her historic runs to the Wimbledon and US Open finals in 2022 were defining moments, not just for her career but for an entire generation of aspiring tennis players from regions with little representation in the sport.

She proved that talent, combined with relentless determination, can overcome any geographical or financial disadvantage.

Jabeur’s impact is evident in the growing popularity of tennis in Tunisia and across Africa.

More young players are taking up the sport, inspired by her journey.

She understands her role as a trailblazer and embraces the responsibility of paving the way for future athletes from her region.

Grand Slam Finals and the Pursuit of Glory

Despite her remarkable achievements, Jabeur’s quest for a Grand Slam title remains unfinished.

Her runs to the 2022 Wimbledon and US Open finals, as well as her return to the Wimbledon final in 2023, were moments of immense pride but also heartbreak.

She came agonizingly close to lifting a major trophy but fell just short.

However, these losses have only fueled her hunger. Each setback serves as motivation to improve, refine her game, and return stronger.

Unlike some players who struggle to recover from such disappointments, Jabeur uses them as stepping stones toward future success.

With her fearless mentality and ever-evolving skills, it is only a matter of time before she secures the Grand Slam title that her talent and hard work deserve.

Overcoming Challenges With Resilience

Jabeur’s journey has not been without adversity.

She has battled injuries, endured the mental pressures of being a pioneer, and faced the expectations of an entire region.

The weight of representing Tunisia, the Arab world, and Africa is immense, but she carries it with grace and determination.

Her ability to maintain a positive mindset, even in the face of disappointment, is a testament to her resilience.

Ons Jabeur’s Bold Moves On The Court

Unlike many athletes who struggle with the pressures of professional sport, Jabeur remains grounded, finding joy in the game and embracing the journey rather than just the destination.

A Role Model Beyond Tennis

Beyond her on-court achievements, Ons Jabeur is a symbol of hope and perseverance.

She is actively involved in promoting tennis in Tunisia, advocating for better facilities, and inspiring young athletes to dream big.

Her success has already changed the perception of what is possible for players from her region, and she continues to use her platform to drive positive change.

Jabeur’s humility and warmth have made her one of the most beloved figures in the sport.

Whether engaging with fans, supporting fellow players, or giving back to her community, she embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and leadership.

The Future: A Grand Slam Champion in the Making

As Ons Jabeur continues to compete at the highest level, her ultimate goal remains clear: to win a Grand Slam.

Every year, she edges closer to this dream, refining her game, learning from past experiences, and strengthening her mental and physical resilience.

With her daring style, relentless spirit, and unwavering belief in herself, she has all the tools necessary to claim a major title.

Whether at Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, or the Australian Open, her name is bound to be etched into the history books sooner rather than later.

In conclusion, Ons Jabeur’s bold moves on the court have not only redefined tennis but also broken cultural and geographical barriers.

She has proven that success in the sport is not reserved for those from traditional tennis nations but is attainable for anyone with talent, hard work, and an unshakable belief in themselves.

As she continues to chase her dream of Grand Slam glory, one thing remains certain, Ons Jabeur is not just making history; she is changing the game itself.
