• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

The Inspiring Journey of Tennis Prodigy Khadijat Mohammed is one that embodies resilience, talent, and an unwavering determination to break boundaries.

At just 15 years old, she has already made history in Nigerian tennis, proving that age is no barrier to greatness.

The Inspiring Journey Of Tennis Prodigy Khadijat Mohammed

From dominating local championships to etching her name on the international stage, Khadijat’s story is an inspiration to young athletes across Africa and beyond.

Her meteoric rise in the sport is not by chance. It is the result of years of dedication, rigorous training, and an unshakable belief in her abilities.

With the right support and opportunities, she is on course to becoming not only Nigeria’s greatest female tennis player.

She is also a global icon in the making.

Early Life and Introduction to Tennis

Khadijat Eleojo Mohammed was born in 2010 in Nigeria, a country where tennis is still overshadowed by sports like football and athletics.

Despite this, her passion for the game was evident from an early age. Growing up, she showed an uncommon interest in tennis, idolizing international greats such as Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, and Iga Świątek.

Unlike many young athletes in Nigeria who struggle with access to proper sports infrastructure, Khadijat was fortunate to receive early training that helped her refine her skills.

Through sheer determination and guidance from her coaches, she began competing in local junior tournaments, where her talent quickly set her apart.

Breaking Barriers: The ITF J30 Triumph

A defining moment in Khadijat’s career came in 2024 when she made history as the first player from West or Central Africa to win an ITF J30 World Tour event.

This was a groundbreaking achievement, not just for her but for Nigerian and African tennis as a whole.

Winning the ITF J30 title demonstrated her ability to compete against top junior players from across the world.

The tournament tested her endurance, skill, and mental fortitude—qualities that separate the good from the truly great.

Her victory sent a powerful message: Nigeria had a new tennis sensation, and the world needed to take notice.

Dominating the National Tennis Scene

While international recognition was a major milestone, Khadijat has been equally dominant at home.

In 2023 and 2024, she won back-to-back Dala Hard Court Tennis Championships, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious tennis tournaments.

These victories cemented her place as the best female tennis player in the country.

Her exceptional performances saw her climb the national rankings, and by early 2025, she became Nigeria’s No. 1 ranked female tennis player at just 15 years old.

This was an unprecedented feat, as most national champions in Nigeria are usually in their twenties.

Support from the National Sports Commission (NSC)

With her rapid rise, the National Sports Commission (NSC) recognized the need to support Khadijat in her journey.

In a country where young athletes often struggle due to financial constraints and limited sponsorships, the NSC’s intervention was a crucial step.

The commission pledged to provide her with resources, access to top-tier training facilities, and exposure to international tournaments.

This support is expected to enhance her skills and help her transition into the senior ranks, where she will compete against the world’s best.

Overcoming Challenges in Nigerian Tennis

Despite her success, Khadijat’s journey has not been without obstacles.

Tennis in Nigeria is still underfunded, and players often have to rely on personal funding or private sponsors to participate in international events.

The lack of elite training facilities and world-class coaching is another hurdle young Nigerian players face.

However, Khadijat’s perseverance has been her greatest weapon.

She has continued to train rigorously, adapting to challenges and proving that talent, when combined with hard work, can defy limitations.

Inspiration to Young Athletes, Especially Girls

Khadijat Mohammed is more than just a rising tennis star; she is a role model for young Nigerian girls aspiring to break barriers in sports.

In a society where women’s participation in professional sports is still met with skepticism, she stands as proof that gender should never be a limitation.

The Inspiring Journey Of Tennis Prodigy Khadijat Mohammed

Her success has already begun inspiring young girls to take an interest in tennis, and with continued visibility, she could help revolutionize female sports in Nigeria.

She is showing that with determination and support, young girls can rise to global prominence in traditionally male-dominated sports.

The Road Ahead: Grand Slam Aspirations

Khadijat’s ultimate goal is to compete in Grand Slam tournaments like the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

While this is a long and demanding journey, her achievements so far suggest she is more than capable of making it happen.

Her immediate focus will be on competing in more ITF junior tournaments, earning points to improve her world ranking, and eventually securing a spot on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour.

If she maintains her current trajectory, Nigeria could soon have a player competing at the highest level of international tennis.

In conclusion, the Inspiring Journey of Tennis Prodigy Khadijat Mohammed is a testament to the power of passion, hard work, and perseverance.

The Inspiring Journey Of Tennis Prodigy Khadijat Mohammed

At just 15, she has already rewritten the history books, and the future holds limitless possibilities for her.

From winning national championships to making history in international tournaments, she has proven that Nigeria can produce world-class tennis players.

With continued support and the right opportunities, she could soon be mentioned alongside the greatest names in the sport.

For now, the world watches in anticipation, knowing that Khadijat Mohammed is not just a rising star, she is the future of Nigerian tennis.
