CoinMarketCap has acquired CoinGlass in a deal that expands its cryptocurrency market data services and brings deeper derivatives information to a much larger audience. The companies announced the completed transaction on September 25, 2026. However, they did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
The acquisition gives CoinMarketCap access to CoinGlass’s specialist data on crypto derivatives. That includes open interest, funding rates, liquidations and options. CoinGlass tracks this information across 28 exchanges and more than 2,500 instruments. As a result, CoinMarketCap can give users a broader view of market activity beyond ordinary cryptocurrency prices.
CoinMarketCap said the move will help users understand how leveraged traders are positioned in the market. Previously, users could check cryptocurrency prices on CoinMarketCap and then visit specialist platforms for detailed derivatives information. Now, the companies say that information can sit alongside the price data users already follow.
The development is particularly relevant because derivatives make up a large share of cryptocurrency trading activity. Unlike spot trading, derivatives allow traders to take positions based on the future movement of an asset. These products can also involve leverage. Therefore, changes in open interest, funding rates and liquidations can provide additional information about market positioning.
CoinGlass has built its reputation around making these signals easier to follow. The platform provides tools that allow users to monitor open interest, funding rates, liquidation activity and options. It also provides charts and other market information for traders and analysts.
Founded in 2019, CoinGlass has grown into a widely used crypto data platform. According to the acquisition announcement, it serves more than five million monthly users and about 10,000 API customers. Its coverage across dozens of exchanges also gives it a significant amount of market data.
Meanwhile, CoinMarketCap reaches a much larger audience. The company says about 115 million people use its platform each month. By bringing CoinGlass into that ecosystem, CoinMarketCap can expose more users to derivatives data without requiring them to search for another specialist service.
The companies have also emphasized continuity for existing CoinGlass users. CoinGlass will continue operating under its own brand. Its team will remain in place, while its website, mobile application, free tools, API and pricing will remain unchanged.
That point is important for traders and businesses that depend on CoinGlass data. An acquisition can sometimes lead to major changes in a product or its pricing. In this case, however, the companies have said that existing users should not expect immediate changes to the services they already use.
CoinMarketCap Chief Executive Officer Rush said the acquisition is intended to expand access to CoinGlass’s view of crypto market positioning. He said the goal is to make that information available to a broader audience while keeping the CoinGlass product intact.
CoinMarketCap Chief Product Officer David Salamon also highlighted the importance of derivatives information. He pointed to open interest, funding and liquidations as indicators that can help users understand where market risk is being taken.
The acquisition therefore adds another layer to CoinMarketCap’s existing data offering. A cryptocurrency price can show what an asset is worth at a particular moment. However, price data alone does not always show how traders are positioned. Derivatives information can add another perspective.
For example, open interest measures the value of outstanding derivatives contracts. Funding rates can indicate the cost of holding certain perpetual futures positions. Liquidation data, meanwhile, shows when leveraged positions are forcibly closed. Together, these measures can help users study market activity from several angles.
The deal also highlights the growing importance of specialized crypto data companies. As digital-asset markets expand, traders increasingly rely on detailed information to monitor price movements, liquidity and derivatives activity. Data platforms have consequently become an important part of the broader crypto infrastructure.
CoinMarketCap’s move also reflects the value of combining broad reach with specialist expertise. CoinMarketCap already attracts a large global audience for cryptocurrency prices and market information. CoinGlass, on the other hand, focuses heavily on derivatives analytics. The acquisition brings those strengths under the same corporate umbrella while allowing CoinGlass to retain its separate identity.
For CoinGlass customers, the immediate message is stability. The company has said its current services and pricing will remain in place. Its API customers can also continue using the existing product. This approach could make the transition easier because users do not need to immediately adjust their workflows.
For CoinMarketCap users, the change could make derivatives information more accessible. Instead of relying only on spot prices and market capitalization figures, they can gain access to information about leverage, positioning and liquidations through the expanded data offering.
The acquisition also arrives as crypto markets continue to develop beyond simple buying and selling. Institutional investors, professional traders and individual users increasingly watch several market indicators at once. Consequently, platforms that can present different types of data in one place may become more useful to a wider audience.
The companies have announced the acquisition and described its broader purpose, but they have not provided a detailed timetable for every possible integration.
The acquisition nevertheless marks a notable development in the crypto data industry. CoinMarketCap is adding a specialist derivatives platform with established users, exchange coverage and analytical tools. CoinGlass, meanwhile, gains the backing of a platform with a much larger monthly audience.
Ultimately, the deal connects two different parts of the cryptocurrency information market. CoinMarketCap is known for broad price and market data, while CoinGlass specializes in derivatives analytics. By bringing the companies together, CoinMarketCap is expanding the range of information available across its ecosystem.
For now, CoinGlass users can continue using its familiar products under the existing brand. Meanwhile, CoinMarketCap users stand to gain greater access to derivatives information. As integration develops, the industry will be watching how the two platforms combine their data while maintaining the continuity promised to existing customers.
