  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

  • Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo Alleges Boko Haram Infiltrated Nigerian Military, Links Claim to U.S. Troop Withdrawal

JOS, Nigeria — The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo, has alleged that members of the Boko Haram insurgent group have occupied strategic positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The cleric made the remarks in a video circulated on his social media page, where he discussed the security situation in Nigeria and the recurring violence in parts of the country.

According to Rev. Dachamo, the alleged infiltration of the military was the reason United States military personnel were withdrawn from Nigeria after, he claimed, they received security reports from troops deployed to assess the security situation.

He further alleged that the U.S. personnel had been sent in connection with concerns over what he described as the killing of Christian communities in parts of the country.

Rev. Dachamo did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims during the video.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the United States Government had not publicly confirmed Rev. Dachamo

ABUJA—

Users on African social media platforms continuously turn the architecture of modern romance into a perpetual battleground. Every so often, a singular commentator drops a bombshell that completely fractures the global digital timeline.

Introducing a Major Cultural Provocateur
Consequently, Toke Makinwa entered the online discussion with immense force. The multi-media personality, famous author, and podcast host never avoids shaking the traditional cultural table.

Igniting a Massive Firestorm
Recently, her bold commentary regarding the underlying mechanics of romance sparked a massive firestorm. Indeed, her words generated the most fiercely debated relationship discourse of the year.

The Big Podcast Announcement
Specifically, Makinwa shared her controversial views during a highly publicized episode of the popular MENtality podcast. Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Banky W, and Toolz successfully hosted this particular broadcast.

A Bold Declaration on Romance

During the conversation, Makinwa confidently asserted that relationships between people of different genders remain inherently transactional. She firmly believes this dynamic has always existed throughout human history.

Catching Fire on Mainstream Channels
Subsequently, the bold declaration immediately caught fire across multiple mainstream digital channels. The controversial statement quickly leaped from short podcast snippets to become the dominant talking point.

Poking a Sensitive Cultural Nerve

As a result, users actively discussed her views across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok. By stripping away the traditional, idealized veneer of unconditional love, Makinwa poked a hyper-sensitive cultural nerve.

Forcing a Deep Global Debate

Therefore, she forced a massive, cross-continental debate among thousands of active users. This intense conversation closely analyzes current financial dynamics, evolving gender roles, and the true cost of modern companionship.

The Catalyst: Deconstructing the “Transactional” Claim
The viral storm began when Makinwa systematically broke down the complex structural realities of contemporary dating. Through this analysis, she aggressively challenged the deeply ingrained narrative of purely altruistic love.

Shifting Blame to Men

Furthermore, she refused to blame women for the hyper-materialistic label that society often assigns to them. Instead, she flipped the script completely by placing the responsibility squarely on the behavior of men.

The Origin of Materialistic Culture

Specifically, Makinwa suggested that men actually taught this widespread culture of materialism to women over several generations. She criticized individuals who treat cash as the sole metric of their genuine affection.

Prioritizing Material Benefits

According to her, many women simply learned to prioritize material benefits during early courtship stages. Potential partners repeatedly showed these women that money was the most valuable asset on the table.

Erasing Emotional Connection
Consequently, this financial focus successfully overshadowed the vital pursuit of true emotional depth. It also completely erased meaningful, transparent communication between partners.

The Immediate Social Media Reaction

Predictably, the commentary triggered instantaneous backlash and validation across all major social media networks. On X, users immediately dissected the controversial podcast snippet into deeply polarized camps.

Validating the Hard Truths
For instance, modern realists and a significant portion of female commentators largely dominated the first faction. They strongly believed that Makinwa was simply saying the quiet part out loud.

Historical Alliances vs. Fairytales
Therefore, these supporters argued that historical marriage operated fundamentally as an economic and social alliance. Traditional African societies intentionally designed these unions for lineage preservation and wealth distribution rather than an emotional fairytale.

Rising of a Fierce Counter-Narrative

Conversely, a fierce counter-narrative emerged from a highly vocal opposing camp. This group was primarily driven by passionate critics who accused Makinwa of hyper-commercializing romance.

Protecting the Foundations of Love
Furthermore, they claimed she was actively promoting a cynical, “no finance, no romance” lifestyle ideology. These opponents strongly argued that framing human connection through supply and demand erodes the sacred foundations of love.

Reducing Intimacy to a Balance Sheet
As a result, they believe this materialistic worldview reduces deep human intimacy to a corporate balance sheet.
Meanwhile, the intense debate on X featured sharp intellectual sparring and aggressive gender-war rhetoric. In contrast, the discourse took on a completely different aesthetic lifecycle on TikTok.

Repositories for Lifestyle Philosophies

The popular video-sharing platform quickly became a massive repository for creative content creators. These influencers actively utilized Makinwa’s audio to justify or critique specific lifestyle philosophies.

Embracing the Statement as Gospel

For example, proponents of the popular “Soft Life” and hypergamy movements treated Makinwa’s words as absolute gospel. Hundreds of enthusiastic creators quickly stitched the viral audio.

Demanding Financial Provision

They used her statements to validate their strict expectations of financial provision from male partners.

A Logical Counter-Response

The prevailing sentiment across these clips argued that many men rely solely on financial gestures. They fail to invest quality time in building a genuine emotional bond.

Therefore, these creators believe women treat the relationship with a corresponding business-like pragmatism as a logical counter-response.

Facing Structural Resistance
On the flip side, structural critics and creators advocating for egalitarian partnerships met the audio with fierce resistance. Many young, independent creators pushed back with compelling videos.

The Vulnerability of Material Relationships

They clearly pointed out the immense dangers of treating human relationships as purely transactional. Specifically, they noted that an obsession with material exchange leaves partnerships incredibly vulnerable to sudden economic fluctuations.

Voiding the Romantic Contract
Consequently, if an individual builds a relationship purely on financial transactions, the contract effectively voids itself. This sudden collapse occurs the moment the market value of either asset drops unexpectedly.

Leaving No Room for Family Stability
Ultimately, this harsh reality leaves very little room for building long-term, stable families in modern society.

Indicting a Lack of Intelligence
As the digital fray unfolded, viewers realized that Makinwa’s commentary did not focus exclusively on money. Instead, her message served as a direct indictment of a widespread lack of emotional intelligence in modern dating.

Replacing Courtship with Cash

By highlighting that some men quickly resort to financial gestures, she illuminated a profound deficit in courtship. These individuals prefer throwing money at a lady instead of investing time to truly know her.

Generosity is Not Availability
Therefore, she suggested that society mistakenly treats material generosity as a substitute for emotional availability. People use cash to replace true accountability and consistent behavior.

Social Exchange Theory in Action

Subsequently, psychologists and experienced relationship experts quickly waded into the digital discussion. They pointed out that social exchange theory has long governed human interaction.

Calculating Costs and Rewards

Even without financial motives, individuals subconsciously calculate the exact costs and rewards of their personal relationships.

Trading Emotional Currencies
Partners continuously trade emotional validation, physical intimacy, intellectual stimulation, and shared values as forms of currency.

Confronting an Uncomfortable Mirror

Thus, the widespread discomfort with Makinwa’s statement stems from her raw, unromantic vocabulary. She forced an uncomfortable mirror onto the public by describing the lack of depth that financial transactions cause.

The Power of a Provocateur
Ultimately, Toke Makinwa’s viral relationship debate demonstrates her enduring power as a premier cultural provocateur. She clearly understands how to command the digital timeline by dismantling a collective delusion.
A Deeply Conflicted Consciousness

The explosive fallout on X and TikTok proves that the collective consciousness remains deeply conflicted. People struggle with the evolution of romance in a rapidly changing economic landscape.

Rewriting the Rules of Engagement

As financial realities become tougher, the traditional playbook of love is undergoing a major rewrite in real-time. Gender dynamics also continue to shift rapidly across the continent.

An Altered Vocabulary

Whether one views her commentary as a cynical devaluation of romance or a refreshing dose of pragmatic truth, one thing remains certain. Makinwa has permanently altered the vocabulary of this conversation.

The Ultimate Internet Battleground

She has successfully ensured that the intersection of finance, emotional intelligence, and reciprocity will remain the ultimate internet battleground.
