MORGANABLE LIFE & CULTURE / MUSIC
American Grammy-winning singer Brandy Norwood will headline Flytime Promotions’ House of R&B concert in Lagos on December 20, 2026.
Akure —
American Grammy-winning singer Brandy Norwood will headline Flytime Promotions’ House of R&B concert in Lagos on December 20, 2026.
The show will take place at the Eko Convention Centre and open the company’s December entertainment programme. Organisers announced the booking on October 9, with Nigerian media reporting it the following day.
The concert will form part of Detty December, the busy festive period when Lagos hosts music shows, parties and cultural events.
The season attracts residents, Nigerians returning from abroad and international visitors. Brandy’s appearance adds a major American R&B name to the calendar and gives fans a chance to hear her celebrated songs live.
BRANDY TO OPEN FLYTIME’S DECEMBER SEASON
Flytime founder and chief executive Cecil Hammond said Brandy was a natural choice for House of R&B. He described her as one of the genre’s influential voices and said she represents the music and spirit the event celebrates.
The company’s chief operating officer, Keke Hammond, also said this year’s programme would offer six nights of entertainment, each with its own identity.
The current schedule begins with House of R&B on December 20. Coca-Cola Rhythm Unplugged follows on December 21, while Flytime Fest Powered by Coca-Cola will run from December 22 to 24.
Flytime Circle is scheduled for December 25. Organisers have confirmed Brandy for the opening concert, but they have yet to announce all performers for the remaining events.
A CAREER THAT SHAPED CONTEMPORARY R&B
Brandy rose to fame in the 1990s and became known for her smooth vocals, layered harmonies and careful vocal arrangements. Fans and music writers often call her “The Vocal Bible,” a nickname that reflects her influence on singers and the genre’s development.
Her work helped establish a sound that combines polished production with detailed vocal performances.
One of her best-known songs is “The Boy Is Mine,” her Grammy-winning duet with Monica. The track became a major hit and remains a defining release in both artists’ catalogues.
Brandy has also released songs such as “Have You Ever,” “Almost Doesn’t Count” and “Full Moon.” Together, these records have helped her maintain a strong place in R&B across several decades.
A NOTABLE YEAR FOR THE SINGER
The Lagos announcement follows several milestones for Brandy in 2026. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognising her contribution to entertainment.
The Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective also honoured her with the Black Music Icon Award. These honours renewed attention to her long career and her impact on popular music.
Her Lagos date is part of a wider December run in southern Africa. Reports say Brandy is scheduled to perform in Cape Town on December 14 and Pretoria on December 17 and 18 before travelling to Lagos.
The sequence places the Nigerian concert among her planned regional appearances during the festive period.
DETTY DECEMBER BRINGS OPPORTUNITIES TO LAGOS
Detty December has become an important period for Nigeria’s entertainment and hospitality sectors. Concerts and parties draw crowds to Lagos, while restaurants, hotels, short-let apartments, transport operators and other businesses prepare for increased demand. Therefore, major international bookings can create opportunities beyond the concert venue itself.
Flytime has played a prominent role in Lagos’ live music scene since its establishment in 2004. The company has staged shows featuring Nigerian stars such as Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, Asake and Olamide. It has also brought international performers, including Megan Thee Stallion and Boyz II Men, to Nigerian audiences.
WHAT FANS SHOULD EXPECT
House of R&B will focus on the genre and Brandy’s extensive catalogue. Although the headline booking is confirmed, fans should wait for the organisers to publish further details about ticket categories, prices, entry arrangements and any supporting performers. Checking official channels can help concertgoers avoid relying on unverified posts or outdated information.
The choice of Brandy also reflects the lasting appeal of 1990s R&B among listeners in Africa. Many fans encountered her music through radio, music television and imported albums. Streaming services have since made her older recordings easier to find, allowing younger music listeners to discover them alongside current releases today. Therefore, the concert may connect different age groups through songs that remain familiar decades after their release.
For the organisers, bringing an international performer to Lagos requires planning. Production teams must coordinate sound, lighting, stage design, security and audience movement.
Ticketing information also needs to reach fans early. Clear communication can reduce confusion and help attendees prepare for the event.
The December season can put pressure on transport and accommodation. Visitors should compare prices, plan their journeys and use official ticket channels.
They should avoid buying from unknown resellers, particularly when sellers cannot provide proof of a valid ticket. These steps can help fans enjoy the show while reducing the risk of scams or last-minute disruption.
MORE ARTISTS STILL TO BE ANNOUNCED
Flytime has positioned Brandy’s concert as the opening night of a longer programme rather than a standalone event. The company says more details about the remaining shows will follow. That means the full December lineup is still developing, and fans should not assume that unannounced performers have been confirmed.
Brandy’s appearance is scheduled for December 20, so it remains a future event as of October 11. For now, the key confirmed details are the headline artist, venue and date.
As the festive season approaches, further announcements should clarify the wider programme and help fans plan their December entertainment.
The concert gives Nigerian audiences a chance to celebrate a singer whose music has crossed generations. For Flytime, it sets a high-profile tone for its holiday events.
