Morganable Impact

Publishing is the beginning. Consequence is the test.

Morganable examines impact through evidence of what happens after journalism, research, data, intelligence and public-interest knowledge enter the world: who uses the work, what decisions it informs, what institutions respond and what changes endure.

01 Evidence Created
02 Knowledge Used
03 Consequence Verified
Morganable Impact Principle

Reach may indicate attention. Citation may indicate use. Neither, by itself, proves that Morganable caused a consequential change.

01 Impact Doctrine

Attention matters. But attention is not impact.

An institution can publish extensively, attract substantial audiences and still know very little about whether its work changed understanding, practice or decision-making.

Morganable should therefore distinguish between what it produces and what subsequently happens because that work became available. Outputs, audience reach and engagement remain useful indicators, but they sit earlier in an impact chain.

Stronger impact claims require stronger evidence: documented use, citation, replication, institutional response, measurable change or another traceable consequence.

The closer Morganable moves from publication toward claims of influence, outcome and enduring impact, the greater the evidentiary burden should become.

Morganable Impact Ladder

From production to enduring consequence.

The ladder separates activity from consequence so Morganable does not confuse publishing success with verified institutional impact.

01

Output

Morganable created journalism, research, data, a tool, knowledge resource or intelligence product.

Production
02

Reach

Relevant people, communities or institutions encountered the work.

Exposure
03

Engagement

The work generated meaningful reading, scrutiny, discussion or interrogation.

Interaction
04

Use

A person or institution employed the work for a practical, analytical or informational purpose.

05

Influence

Evidence indicates that Morganable informed judgement, debate or institutional action.

Contribution
06

Outcome

A demonstrable change occurred in knowledge, policy, accountability, behaviour or practice.

Enduring Impact

The consequence persisted, propagated or remained useful beyond the originating publication cycle.

Domains of Impact

Consequence takes different forms.

Journalism, research, data and intelligence should not be forced into one impact model. Each creates public value through different pathways.

01

Journalism & Accountability

Public understanding, documented institutional responses, corrections, investigations, accountability and changes in public discourse attributable or contributory to reporting.

02

Research & Evidence

Citation, scholarly reuse, methodological adoption, new enquiry and changes in how a substantive problem is understood.

03

Data & Infrastructure

Dataset reuse, replication, downstream applications, API or analytical use and evidence infrastructure adopted by others.

04

Intelligence & Decisions

Improved strategic judgement, risk assessment, planning, resource allocation, situational awareness or institutional foresight.

05

Public Knowledge & Cultural Infrastructure

Durable access to archives, language resources, explainers, libraries and knowledge-preservation systems whose value extends beyond an individual publication.

From Evidence to Consequence

Impact should leave a trace.

Morganable should be capable of showing the pathway between an originating work and the later change associated with it.

Attribution Discipline

Correlation is not attribution.

The language used to describe impact should match the strength of the available evidence.

Direct Attribution

Strong documentary or testimonial evidence connects Morganable's work directly to the action or change.

Contributory Influence

Evidence indicates Morganable materially contributed, but other influences were also involved.

Plausible Association

A relationship may exist, but available evidence does not justify a stronger causal claim.

Unverified

A possible impact has been identified but remains insufficiently evidenced.

Impact Evidence Ledger

Claims should be inspectable.

The public Impact Ledger should mature into a governed record of verified and appropriately qualified impact cases rather than a marketing gallery.

These are ledger categories, not claimed completed impact cases. Public records should be populated only when supporting evidence has been assembled and reviewed.

What We Measure

Public value is deeper than traffic.

Reach remains relevant, but Morganable should prioritise evidence that demonstrates use, reuse, accountability, adoption and durable knowledge creation.

01

Citation & Reuse

Scholarly, institutional, media and policy citation or substantive reuse.

02

Replication

Independent reproduction, verification or methodological adoption.

03

Dataset Utilisation

Downloads, queries, API calls and downstream applications where meaningful measurement is possible.

04

Institutional Adoption

Use within reports, frameworks, operational systems, decisions or professional practice.

05

Accountability Response

Corrections, official responses, investigations or action materially linked to reporting.

06

Knowledge Preservation

Durable public knowledge that remains discoverable and useful after the original publication cycle.

Impact Accountability

Morganable must be accountable for its impact claims too.

Institutional credibility is weakened when organisations convert attention, timing or anecdote into causal claims they cannot substantiate.

Impact Governance Principle

Evidence before self-congratulation.

Claims should remain proportionate to the evidence, open to challenge and capable of correction when later information changes the record.

Evidence required
Attribution disclosed
Uncertainty preserved
Claims reviewable
Corrections possible
Provenance retained
Public Value

The most important impact may not always be the easiest to count.

Some consequences accumulate slowly.

A public archive may become more valuable over decades. A methodology may be reused long after the research that introduced it. A dataset may enable questions Morganable itself never asks. A piece of journalism may become part of the evidentiary record of an institution or event.

Morganable should therefore measure what can be measured without allowing easy metrics to define the entirety of public value.

Morganable Impact

Work should travel beyond publication. Useful knowledge should leave consequence.
