• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Public information, civic awareness and social consequence

A star under pressure, Bukayo Saka embodies the modern footballer navigating immense expectations, relentless schedules, and the glaring spotlight of both club and country, all while barely out of his teens.

In an era where young athletes often struggle under the weight of media scrutiny and social media toxicity, Saka’s resilience, composure, and growth stand as a testament to not only his talent but his exceptional character.

From the moment Saka broke into Arsenal’s first team, his footballing intelligence, technical elegance, and versatility became undeniable assets.

But what makes his journey more compelling is the emotional and mental fortitude he has shown through moments of intense pressure, most notably following the Euro 2020 final, where he missed the decisive penalty for England against Italy.

A Star Under Pressure

The backlash was swift and, at times, vicious. Yet, the young winger refused to let the moment define him. Instead, he used it as fuel, returning to his club stronger, sharper, and even more determined.

In today’s Premier League, where even experienced players falter under pressure, Saka has become Arsenal’s most consistent performer.

Whether it’s a title race, a top-four battle, or a Champions League night, Saka shows up.

His calmness on the ball, vision in attack, and work rate in defense reflect a player mature beyond his years.

He leads not through words, but through action, carrying the hopes of millions of fans on his young shoulders.

A Star Under Pressure

The 2024/2025 season has tested him yet again. Arsenal’s return to Champions League knockout stages came with high expectations.

When the Gunners met Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals, Saka scored their only goal across two legs.

Though the team was eliminated, Saka’s performance stood out. He took six shots, made five crosses, and showed flashes of brilliance.

However, one missed chance—a one-on-one with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma—prompted headlines questioning his finishing under pressure.

Such narratives often forget that even legends like Thierry Henry missed key chances. But for Saka, the scrutiny is amplified by age and responsibility.

Still, he remains undeterred. Mikel Arteta has frequently praised Saka’s mentality, calling him “a role model for any professional.”

Despite being just 23, Saka has played more than 200 senior matches, a number that highlights his importance and also underscores the physical and emotional demands placed on him.

Yet, he continues to evolve, adding goals, assists, and defensive contributions to his game.

A Star Under Pressure

What separates Saka from many of his peers is his response to pressure. Some athletes shrink from the spotlight, but Saka seems to thrive in it.

His humility off the pitch provides balance to his flair on it. He speaks with warmth, often crediting his family and faith for keeping him grounded.

In interviews, he avoids bravado, choosing instead to reflect with maturity.

This attitude, combined with his work ethic, makes him not only a fan favorite but a respected figure across the football world.

There is also a broader conversation to be had about how society treats its young stars.

The racial abuse Saka suffered after the Euro final was a dark reminder of the work still needed in football and society at large. But Saka’s response was dignified.

He thanked those who stood by him and pledged to keep inspiring the next generation.

That sense of purpose has shaped his brand, he is not just a footballer; he is a symbol of hope and resilience.

Arsenal, recognizing his value, are reportedly preparing to make Saka one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.

A Star Under Pressure

This reflects not just his performance but the burden he carries

. Week after week, he is expected to deliver moments of magic, even when fatigued or marked by multiple defenders.

Such pressure breaks many, but Saka wears it like armor.

Off the pitch, he remains clean-cut and disciplined. No scandals, no controversies—just quiet determination.

He donates to charities, occasionally surprises fans with acts of kindness, and uses his platform with responsibility.

In a football world often plagued by egos and excess, Saka offers a refreshing contrast.

One must also consider the toll this level of commitment takes on the mind and body.

The physical wear and tear from playing nearly every game, coupled with the psychological weight of expectations from fans, coaches, and the media, is substantial.

Sports psychologists have long emphasized the need for mental resilience in elite athletes, and Saka appears to embody these principles.

A Star Under Pressure

He credits his coaches and support network for keeping him centered, but it is his own internal discipline that keeps him moving forward.

Moreover, his presence has become a cornerstone for Arsenal’s long-term vision.

Club management has built around his strengths, recruiting players whose styles complement his.

His chemistry with fellow young stars like Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Ødegaard reflects a synergy that could define a new era for the North London club.

As the Premier League continues to evolve with tactical innovations and increasing competition, Saka’s adaptability ensures he remains at the forefront.

Beyond Arsenal, England manager Gareth Southgate sees Saka as a pivotal part of the Three Lions’ future.

His ability to play multiple roles across the front line makes him indispensable. As the national team sets its sights on the 2026 World Cup, Saka’s performances in qualifiers and major tournaments will be crucial.

His unique blend of speed, intelligence, and teamwork makes him the kind of player every coach dreams of.

A Star Under Pressure

His popularity is also evident in commercial terms. Endorsement deals with global brands have followed, yet Saka manages to stay humble, often deflecting attention away from personal gain and toward team goals.

In an age where personal branding often overshadows team spirit, Saka is refreshingly team-oriented.

His story is a reminder that success does not require arrogance, and fame does not necessitate detachment.

His influence stretches far beyond the pitch. For many young British-African kids growing up in urban neighborhoods, Saka is a symbol of what is possible through talent, hard work, and integrity.

He has not only become a role model in sports but a beacon for social impact, frequently speaking about education, community, and character.

His journey is far from over. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon and Arsenal eager to end their trophy drought, the pressure will only mount.

But if the past three years are anything to go by, Bukayo Saka will not just endure it—he’ll rise with it.

A Star Under Pressure

He is learning to convert pressure into performance, criticism into growth, and adversity into strength.

In the final analysis, Bukayo Saka represents more than just technical brilliance.

He is a case study in mental resilience, a modern example of how stars are made not just by goals and assists, but by how they handle the storms.

While the world continues to watch and judge, he continues to run, to smile, to create, and to inspire.

Indeed, he is a star under pressure, and he shines all the brighter for it.
