• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Bellingham’s mentality is what Nigerians need to reach the pinnacle of football.

In an era where talent alone no longer guarantees success, the modern game demands discipline, resilience, adaptability, and a strong work ethic.

Jude Bellingham, a young English midfielder currently making waves at Real Madrid, embodies all these qualities.

His rapid rise to stardom is not just about skill but about his mental strength, leadership, and relentless drive—qualities that young Nigerian footballers must emulate to succeed both locally and internationally.

Jude Bellingham’s journey from Birmingham City to Borussia Dortmund and now Real Madrid is a testament to his elite mentality.

At just sixteen, he was already making history as Birmingham City’s youngest-ever first-team player.

Instead of taking a comfortable route in England, he challenged himself by moving to Germany at seventeen—a foreign league with a different culture, style of play, and higher expectations.

Such bold decision-making and risk-taking should inspire young Nigerian footballers to step out of their comfort zones and chase excellence beyond familiar environments.

Unlike many young players who struggle with fame, Bellingham stays grounded, focused, and disciplined.

His mental strength allows him to thrive under pressure, whether playing in front of thousands at the Santiago Bernabéu or leading England in major international tournaments.

Bellingham’s Mentality Is What Nigerians Need

Nigerian players need this level of commitment and determination to excel, especially when transitioning from local leagues to European football.

Nigeria has produced world-class footballers like Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Mikel Obi, all of whom combined skill with discipline.

However, many talented young Nigerian footballers fail to reach their full potential due to a lack of professionalism, consistency, and dedication.

Bellingham’s approach to football proves that raw talent is never enough—it must be matched with an elite work ethic.

Bellingham trains with intensity, always looking to improve. Nigerian players must adopt this mindset rather than relying solely on natural ability.

He studies the game, understanding different formations, positional play, and opposition weaknesses.

Nigerian talents must learn to play smart, not just skillfully.

While many young stars get distracted by fame and social media, Bellingham prioritizes his development.

Bellingham’s Mentality Is What Nigerians Need

Nigerian footballers must stay focused on their careers rather than external distractions.

At just twenty, Bellingham plays with the maturity of a seasoned professional.

His leadership qualities are evident on and off the pitch—whether motivating teammates, demanding excellence, or taking responsibility in crucial moments.

This is a trait that many Nigerian young footballers lack.

Bellingham does not shy away from big moments. Nigerian players must develop a similar confidence when playing on big stages.

He believes in hard work and constantly seeks improvement. Nigerian players should embrace this mindset instead of settling for mediocrity.

Football is not about individual brilliance alone. Bellingham plays for the team, not himself.

Nigerian youngsters must learn to put collective success over personal glory.

One of Bellingham’s greatest strengths is his ability to adapt to different playing styles and environments.

From England’s physical Championship league to Germany’s fast-paced Bundesliga and now Spain’s tactical La Liga, he has excelled in every system.

This is where many Nigerian footballers struggle when moving to Europe.

Nigerian players must be willing to adapt to different coaches, styles, and tactical systems rather than insisting on playing only the way they are used to.

Bellingham plays as a box-to-box midfielder, attacking midfielder, or deep-lying playmaker.

Bellingham’s Mentality Is What Nigerians Need

Nigerian players must develop versatility to increase their value in modern football.

Understanding space, movement, and opposition tactics is key.

Nigerian youngsters must study the game beyond just playing it.

Many Nigerian players have the dream of making it to Europe, but a majority fail not because of a lack of talent but because they are unable to adapt to the European system.

European coaches do not just look for players who can dribble or score goals; they seek players who understand tactical discipline, positioning, and how to work within a team structure.

Bellingham has mastered these qualities at such a young age, proving that success is not just about ability but about intelligence and adaptability.

To produce the next generation of world-class players, Nigeria must instill the right mentality in its young footballers.

The Nigerian league, academies, and grassroots football programs should emphasize the mental aspects of the game, building resilience, confidence, and focus in young players.

Professionalism must be prioritized, teaching players about discipline, lifestyle choices, and how to handle fame.

Young players should be encouraged to take calculated risks by moving to competitive foreign leagues early to develop their skills in an advanced footballing environment.

Bellingham’s mentality is what Nigerians need if they are to dominate world football. His story is proof that success is not just about talent but about discipline, intelligence, leadership, and adaptability.

Bellingham’s Mentality Is What Nigerians Need

If Nigerian young footballers can adopt his mindset, they will not only succeed but also elevate Nigerian football to greater heights.

The future of Nigerian football depends on a change in mentality, and Bellingham has shown the perfect blueprint to follow.

Young players must be willing to work harder than everyone else, to challenge themselves beyond their comfort zones, and to stay dedicated to their craft.

Nigerian football has immense potential, but without the right mindset, it will always fall short of global expectations.

Nigeria has no shortage of football talent.

The streets of Lagos, the dusty fields of Kano, and the local academies scattered across the country are filled with young boys with dreams of becoming the next big star.

But dreams alone are not enough. Talent alone is not enough.

Nigeria has had numerous young players who were once seen as the future of football but disappeared due to a lack of discipline and professionalism.

From promising stars who failed in Europe to those who struggled with off-field distractions, the country has seen too many cases of wasted potential.

Bellingham’s Mentality Is What Nigerians Need

Bellingham’s story should be a wake-up call.

He has shown that success is not given but earned. He has shown that being young is not an excuse for mediocrity.

He has shown that hard work, intelligence, and discipline can take a player to the top of world football.

Nigerian footballers must take this lesson seriously.

If Nigerian football is to reclaim its glory and consistently produce players capable of competing at the highest level, the change must start from the grassroots.

Coaches must teach more than just ball skills; they must instill discipline and mental strength.

Parents must support their children beyond just celebrating their talent; they must guide them on the right path.

Football administrators must create a system that rewards dedication and hard work rather than just favoritism and politics.

Bellingham’s rise to the top should not just be admired but should be studied.

Nigerian players need to understand that football is no longer about who has the best skills; it is about who is mentally ready to handle the pressure, the expectations, and the challenges that come with being an elite athlete.

Nigerian footballers need to start thinking like Bellingham if they truly want to make it on the world stage.

The world of football is evolving, and only those who are willing to evolve with it will succeed.

Nigerian young footballers must decide whether they want to be just another talented player or whether they want to be great.

The choice is theirs to make.
