  • Nigel Farage’s Resignation : Political Money, Broken Rules and the Africa Diaspora Question

Nigel Farage’s resignation as MP for Clacton has turned a parliamentary standards controversy into a wider test of political money, democratic accountability and migration politics. With major parties refusing to contest the by-election, the episode raises urgent questions about whether electoral theatre can be used to weaken parliamentary scrutiny — and what that means for African diasporas in Britain, Ireland and at home....

  • Teaching Al-Musannaf Requires Rare Scholarly Expertise Beyond the Reach of Many Nigerian Scholars

Renowned Islamic scholar and founder of Darul Hadith Salafiyya, Zaria, Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam (Albani Zaria), has stated that teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires an exceptional level of scholarly competence that, according to him, many Nigerian Islamic scholars do not possess.

The late cleric made the remarks during one of his Sahih al-Bukhari lectures in 2013, while discussing contemporary religious issues and the qualifications required to teach classical Islamic texts.

According to Sheikh Albani, Al-Musannaf is among the most comprehensive works in Islamic scholarship and demands mastery of several disciplines before a scholar can competently teach its contents.

"Teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires rare scholarly expertise beyond what many Nigerian scholars possess," he said.

He explained that a scholar seeking to teach the book must possess extensive knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Hadith sciences (Mustalah al-Hadith), Islamic history (Tarikh), principles of narration, and other related Islamic sciences.

Albani argued that beyond academic qualifications, teaching the text requires years of specialization, extensive research, and a deep understanding of the differences among classical scholars and schools of thought.

According to him, many scholars lack the time, specialization, and depth of knowledge necessary to undertake such a demanding scholarly responsibility.

The respected scholar maintained that teaching advanced Islamic texts without the required expertise could lead to misunderstanding, inaccurate interpretations, and confusion among students of knowledge.

Zelenskyy In Germany For Military Aid

As US Pledges More Support for Ukraine

War between Ukraine and Russia will not go away soon as Ukraine intensifies efforts to strike deeper blow.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, is set to meet high-ranked military leaders from various allied countries in Germany in a bid to get more military support.

Ukraine seeks military reinforcement to strike deep blow on Russian which has been at war with it. Zelenskyy has implored top military leaders from the United States and other allied nations in Germany that Ukraine faces tough time ahead if no long-range strike launched.

He also revealed that Ukraine’s air defenses needs to be reinforced to stand against any attack from Russia. Meeting between the Ukraine’s Defense Contact Group (UDCG) was held during a dynamic period of war against Russia.

It was reported that Ukraine launched her first strike of the war while being threatened by Russian forces close a local hub in the Donbas. The threat came a few days came after Russian stroke a deadly blow against Ukrainian military training centre which claimed more than 50 lives and hundreds injured. Then in the following day. On Friday, Russia shot five ballistic missile from the eastern Dniproprtrovsk, at the city of Paylohrad, which injured not less than 50 people. Reporting on the situation, Governor Serhii Lysak, the regional Governor of the province, said, “Three of those injured in the daylight attack were children aged four, nine and eleven.”

“We need to have this long-range capability, not only on the divided territory of Ukraine, but also on the Russian territory, so that Russia is motivated to seek peace,” Zelenskyy told the contact group.

“We need to make Russian cities and even Russian soldiers think about what they need: peace or Putin.”

It is to be noted that, till this moment, the United States has been cautious and careful meddling in the Russia-Ukraine conflict which has seen her hesitant in releasing long-range missiles to Ukraine considering it may further aggravate the conflict.

Howbeit, Bill Blair, Canadian Defense Minister, said that Zelenskyy has urged him to support his use of long-range strikes and that he expects that other Western allies would throw weight behind him, supporting the task.

But Blair stated, in response, that Canada does not possess long-range munitions by itself which it could support Ukraine with.

“One of the things President Zelenskyy and his ministers have made very clear to us is that they are suffering significant attacks from air bases and military installations located within Russia.

“We support their request for permission, but it’s still a decision of our allies,” Blair said.

Till this time, the only shocking effort by Ukraine in Russia’s Kursk territory which Zelenskyy could boast of is the ‘capture of 1,300 kilometers of Russian territory, and the death or injurious blow stricken on about 6,000 Russian soldiers.

This report has diverted Russian President Vladmir Putin’s attention from capturing Pokrovsk, a Ukrainian City, which supplies rail and channel of water for the Ukrainian Army. Definitely, if Ukraine loses Pokrovsk, through it, other cities close to it would be exposed to danger.

While Kursk has placed Russia on the defensive side, “we know Putin’s malice runs deep,” and Moscow is pressing on, especially around Pokrovsk, Lloyd Austin, U.S. Defense Secretary, said.

Renewed Russian deadly airstrikes have boost Zelenskyy’s plea to the United States to life restriction and receive greater Western abilities to strike a deadly blow on Russia. The Ukrainian president stated that promised support made by the western block has been to slow.

“The number of air defense systems that have not yet been delivered is significant,” Zelenskyy claimed.

Boris Pristorius, German Defense Minister, has disclosed that the system promised, especially ‘Patriot air defense systems,’ must be delivered as soon as possible to protect Ukraine’s electrical and infrastructure during the winter conflict.

Ukraine’s Western Allies

It can be recalled that Russia consistently blew up power systems in Ukraine during the period of last year. At the meeting, Austin revealed that the administration of President Joe Biden is ready to provide another $250 million in ammunition to Ukraine, plus the air defense munitions and artillery promised. Today’s meeting is expected to address how to expand gains in Ukraine’s defense industrial base to solidify military footing and operation as the Biden’s administration winding down.

Western allies have been working with Zelenskyy to obtain a substitute missile vintage S-300 defense systems launched during Soviet era, Austin stated.

The United States is also working on providing various air-to-ground missiles that F-16 fighter jets can convey, plus the Air-to-surface standoff Missile which could provide Ukraine with a long-range target missile options, revealed by one of the Pentagon’s top weapon buyers, Bill LaPlante, who was among reporters travelling with Austin.

LaPlante stressed further by saying that no decisions on munitions have been made, highlighting that it is a matter under contemplation if the long-range missiles should be given to Ukraine.

“I would just put JASSM in that category, it’s something that is always being looked at,” LaPlante said. “Anything that’s an air-to-ground weapon is always being looked at.”

For the records of two years, the members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) have been meeting in providing Ukraine’s enormous artillery and air defense needs.

The needs are stated to be in large amount, ranging from hundreds of millions of rounds of small arms ammunition to the West’s standard which is modernly equipped. Zelenskyy’s demand has always been the same since warring against Russia but the only difference is that his request this time is made in person.

Yesterday, on Thursday, 5th September, 2024, United States President’s Deputy National Security Officer Jon Finer pay a courtesy visit to Zelenskyy in Kyiv, the Capital city of Ukraine, to reassure the Ukrainian President of Biden’s continued support before his presidency winds down.

Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Western Allies have donated total amount of $106 billion to Ukraine while the United States has already pledged $56 billion in total.

Olaf Scholz, The German government said Chancellor, has disclosed plans to meet the Ukrainian President, Zelenskyy, in Frankfurt on Friday afternoon.
