• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

T  yson Fury Beat Wilder to Win the WBC Heavyweight Belt. Tyson Fury produced a near-perfect boxing masterclass to dethrone Deontay Wilder from the World Boxing Council throne.

On Saturday, the new WBC Heavyweight King stopped Deontay Wilder with a one-sided 7th-round stoppage in Las Vegas. Deontay Wilder was floored in the 3rd and the 5th rounds en route to the 7th round stoppage when the former champion’s corner threw in the towel to avert further punishment for their prized man.

The Saturday one-sided and dominant heavyweight boxing match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was a follow-up to the epic draw between the duo on the 1st of December 2018 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

The Briton dominated his boxing rival in a way that no one expected, following their epic draw displayed fourteen months earlier.

He successfully backed up the respected fighter several times with such a dominant display.

The American fighter suffered from his own usual punishing style as he slumped to Fury’s repeated jabs and right hand to the shock and amazement of the audience at the MGM Grand Arena.

It should be noted that Tyson Fury delivered everything had promised by transforming himself from his hit-and-move style to overpower and bully Deontay Wilder, an undefeated rival until the towel was thrown in by his corner in the seventh round.

Joy to Behold – Tyson Fury’s Fans

Thousands of British fans who had descended on Vegas saw their hero take an age to arrive at the ring on a throne, sporting a golden crown. It was the only time Fury moved slowly all night.

Tyson Fury’s fans showed unparalleled enthusiasm all the way, from the weigh-in session to the actual boxing match, they were impressive.

Actors Michael J Fox and Jason Statham, as well as Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, watched as Fury puts in a dominant display to stop Deontay Wilder in the seventh round.

Tyson Fury took the fight to Deontay Wilder forcing him to the rope severally, and ensuring the champion had no say in the pace of proceedings.

In the third round, Wilder was floored with a left hit to the body following a right-hand landing to the side of his head.

Deontay Wilder then fell again as Tyson Fury mounted pressure on him in the fifth round. At the bell, the pair glared at one another and Wilder knew he was in a place, no fighter wants to be. The Britons sitting ringside did not want to be anywhere else. Totally unexpected.

Tyson Fury – The Redeemed

Tyson Fury is back at the top of the heavyweight boxing, with a back-story that has helped shape cult-hero status in the UK and now a burgeoning profile in the US.

Although, he may casually say that the WBC title means little to him and may continue to threaten to walk away from boxing but be certain that he will lead us all a merry dance until the day it is all over. But when it is, this win will be remembered.

Fury has successfully completed his journey from personal despair to sporting glory. What a ride? What a story? – The WBC Heavyweight champion of the World.

Speaking to BT Sport Box Office, Tyson Fury said: “I told everybody with a pair of ears that the Gypsy King would return to the throne. My last fight everybody wrote me off. I was underweight and over-trained. I’m a destroyer. Not bad for someone with pillow fists.

“I’m a man of my word. I told Wilder, his team, the world. We trained for a knockout; we wasn’t (sic) tapping around in that gym.

“I talk like this because I can back it up. People write me off, they look at my fat belly and bald head and think I can’t fight. He fought the best Tyson Fury, we’re both in our primes.

“I expect him to ask for the third fight. I know he’s a warrior and I’ll be waiting.”

His promoter, Frank Warren said: “I have been doing this a long time and that was the best performance I have seen from a British boxer in the ring.

“I always believed Tyson would stop him and it is the best moment for me, selfishly, but it is also for him and his family.

“It is the best comeback in sport, not boxing. He was in the depths of despair and to pull himself back from that is the most amazing thing. It is special.”

Deontay Wilder’s Magnanimous Reaction

The former champion was magnanimous following his defeat by saying that:

“The best man won on the night. My coach threw in the towel but I’m ready to go out on my shield.

“I had a lot of things going on coming into this fight, but it is what it is.

“I just wish my corner would have let me go out on my shield, I’m a warrior. But [Fury] did what he did and there’s no excuses.”
