• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Trump to end “Citizenship By Birth” right as his inauguration draws near

The president-elect of the United States of America has expressed his desire to pardon those engaged in the 2021 US Capitol riot.

Donald Trump will make his imminent return to the White House after being elected for the second during the presidential polls last month.

He assures the American citizenry that the pardon will be issued on his first day in office next month,

In his first broadcast network interview hosted by NBC’s Meet the Press, he said: “These people are living in hell.”

In furtherance, he also expresses his desire to end automatic citizenship for anyone born in the United States, and indicated his desire to work with the Democrats in order to help fish out all undocumented and illegal immigrants brought to the US as children.

Amidst the broad interview on Friday, Trump vowed to reel out “a lot” of executive orders on immigration, energy and economy following his inauguration on 20th January, 2025.

He also pointed that he would love to erect justice department investigation into Joe Biden’s administration, including some of this political enemy and lawmakers who might have had hands in the Capitol riot, and anyone found culpable will jailed.                    Trump To End “Citizenship By Birth” Right

When asked if he would pardon the hundreds of rioters reported to have taken part in the Capitol riot, he said: “We’re going to look at independent cases.”

“Yeah, but I’m going to be acting very quickly. First day,” he added.

The president-elect continues: “You know, by the way, they’ve been in there for years, and they’re in a filthy, disgusting place that shouldn’t even be allowed to be open.”

Trump gave a candid response when asked if he would keep the United States in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO): “If they’re paying their bills, and if I think they’re doing a fair – they’re treating us fairly, the answer is absolutely, I’d stay with NATO”

He stated that he was not going to enforce restriction on abortion pills, but when asked to assure the public, he stressed: “Well, I commit. I mean… things change.”

The Republican said that Ukraine should expect less aid from his administration after being inaugurated.

He proposed that he might look to task the scientific researchers to embark on a study if there is any correlation between autism and childhood vaccines−this is an idea which has been stepped down by various studies across the world.

Trump noted that Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine sceptic, would be asked to look into the matter.

Reiterating his commitment to ensuring better living for all Americans, Trump said he would not look to cut social security, nor raise its eligibility age, but promised that he would make it more effectual.

When quizzed if his plans to impose more tariffs on imports from top US trading partners would hike purchase prices of imported goods, he said: “I can’t guarantee anything. I can’t guarantee tomorrow”.

On immigration, Trump said, through executive action, he would end the loudly pronounced birthright citizenship, who gives anyone born on the US soil a right to an American passport, even if their parents were not born in the United States.

Citizenship birthright emanates from the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.

“Citizenship by Birth Right” is enshrined in 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which stipulates that “all persons” born in the United States “are citizens of the United States.”

“We’re going to have to get it changed,” Trump said. “We’ll maybe have to go back to the people. But we have to end it.”

The president-elects also reassured the public that he would work to deliver on this campaign promises to deport undocumented, illegal immigrants, pointing that even those having US citizens as their family members.

“I don’t want to be breaking up families,” he said, “so the only way you don’t break up the family is you keep them together and you have to send them all back.”

He also noted that we would work with the Democrats to assist so-called Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who had been concealed under an Obama-era programme, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which he then tried to render obsolete.

“I will work with the Democrats on a plan,” he said, as he disclosed that most of the undocumented immigrants have good jobs and lucrative businesses.

However, he appeared so equivocal on if he would still seek embark on a vengeful mission against his political enemy.

A few days ago, the incumbent and outgoing United States President Joe Biden issues a presidential pardon to his convicted son, Hunter

Also, various news outlets have reported that the president is also considering extending such a magnanimity towards his political allies before he leaves office.

But Trump, on the other hand, has said he will not look to seek instigate special counsel investigation into Biden’s administration and family, as he once pledged.

“I’m not looking to go back into the past,” he said. “I’m looking to make our country successful. Retribution will be through success.”

But he vowed that members of the now-defunct, Democratic-led House of Representatives Committee who staged a political coup against him and investigated him, would go to jail.

Liz Cheney, former Republican congresswoman, threw a jibe at Trump on Sunday following his “go to jail” remark.

She noted that Trump’s comment that the members of the committee would be jailed was a “continuation of his assault on the rule of law and the foundation of our republic.”

During the NBC interview, Trump also disclosed that he would not task the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to conduct investigations against his political enemy.

But he said: “If they were crooked, if they did something wrong, if they have broken the law, probably.

he conclused: “They went after me. You know, they went after me, and I did nothing wrong.”
