• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Trump caricatures Harris over false claim as he tackles the Vice President over false McDonalds’ work claim

United States former president and Republican nominee, for the forthcoming presidential election set to hold next month, Donald Trump, seen yesterday working at McDonald’s restaurant in Philadelphia.

In a jab-throwing gesture, Trump does not look to stop caricaturing Vice President Kamara Harris, the Democratic Party presidential nominee, over her claim to have worked at the fast food restaurant.

Trump was set to make speech at a Lancaster, Pennsylvania, rally in the evening prior to New York Jets−Pittsburgh Steelers NFL game yesterday night.

Yesterday morning, Harris made speech at services of two gatherings in a one of the battlegrounds in Georgia as her electioneering campaign continues to gain momentum among many die-hard Democratic supporters.

Amidst her presence at Divine Faith Ministries International in Jonesboro near Atlanta, Harris said: “We all know your parents, who gave so much and led such an honorable life, and including, of course, among the leaders upon whose broad shoulders we stand, Congressman John Lewis, they all knew, and by their example, they taught us that faith and good works go hand in hand, and that is especially true when it comes to protecting our sacred right to vote and getting souls to the polls.”

The vice president, whose sixtieth (60th) birthday was yesterday, was warmly celebrated with “Happy Birthday” track by Steve Wonders−who performed live in honour and celebration of the vice president.

Harris, reacting to the performance, said, “People talk about a bucket list — I think I have just checked off a whole big one to have Stevie Wonder himself sing me ‘Happy Birthday.’”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, was also in attendance and attempted to canvas more supports and votes at the church service and union hall in Michigan, another key battleground state.

Later in the day, Walz would be expected to attend fundraising events in Boston and Connecticut.

On the other hand, Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, also made efforts to reach out to some voters. He was spotted at a bar near Lambeau Field speaking to electorates, at a tailgate party outside the stadium and at home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers. Vance was expected to speak and address supporters at a campaign rally in Wisconsin, later in the day.

Trump has been critical of Harris narrating her ordeal while growing up and her experience during her working periods at a McDonald’s in between breaks while being a student at Howard University.

Yesterday, the Republican nominee took the mocking to a higher level by taking adorning an apron over his shirt and tie, learning how to cook and pictured trying to work the fryer.

Amidst an urgent media briefing through the drive-through window, Trump repeatedly admitted that he would accept the outcome of the election based on conditions.

“Yeah, sure, if it’s a fair election. Always. I’ll always accept it if it’s a fair election again,” Trump said, as he appeared to question the fairness and integrity of the election system a few days to the Election Day.

Trump also hit back at a reporter who asked him of his response to claim by many people that ‘Harris is more of unifying nominee than him,’ he said, “I think Harris is “the most divisive person I’ve ever seen,” but appeared to accuse her that she lied about her job application.

However, during the drive-through window, Trump wished Harris a “Happy Birthday.” Jested that “maybe” he would look to give her flowers or some fries.

Ian Smith, a senior adviser in Harris campaign, called Trump’s McDonald’s gimmick a “sign of desperation,” noting the nearness of the Election Day.                              Trump Caricatures Harris Over False Claim

In his statement, “when Trump feels desperate, all he knows how to do is lie. He can’t understand what it’s like to have a summer job because he was handed millions on a silver platter, only to blow it,” Sams said.

Harris is known of repeated talks about her experience working at McDonald’s during her school days.

“Part of the reason I even talk about having worked at McDonald’s is because there are people who work at McDonald’s in our country who are trying to raise a family,” she said during an interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle in September.

Earlier, Trump appeared to address issues and misunderstanding surrounding his “enemy from within” comment made to Fox News’ presenter Howards Kurtz. He identified Adam Schiff, California Democratic Representative, who spearheaded impeachment campaign against him when he was the president, and Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker.

Addressing the comment he said: “That’s an enemy from within. That’s really that is a threat to democracy. These are bad people. We have a lot of bad people, but when you look at Shifty Schiff and some of the others, yeah, they are, to me, the enemy from within.”

“I think Nancy Pelosi is an enemy from within.”

When asked if you would fight back, Trump noted that he would not seek to plot any vengeful act against them; which was against his initial claim.

“No, I don’t want to do that because that’s a bad thing for the country. I don’t want to do that. I don’t know who said, I haven’t said that I would, but they have done it,” Trump said, referring to his opponents.
