• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Hip Hop icon Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been found guilty of transporting prostitution following his long-standing trial in New York, but acquainted of more grievous allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering.

The rap mogul was alleged to have abused and forced three victims, including his long-term ex-girlfriend, singer and model Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, and other crimes such as kidnapping, arson and blackmail.

Judges; decision was that all the allegations brought before them, against Combs, could not be proven, but Combs still to face several years in prison following his conviction of transporting people across the United States, such as Cassie and another ex-girlfriend “Jane”, and funding sexual encounters for male escorts.

Howbeit, having pronounced not guilty on three other serious charges─racketeering conspiracy and two of sex trafficking─the 55-year-old icon has escaped maximum alleged sentence of life imprisonment.

Despite a request for bail from defence counsels, Combs was denied bail ahead of sentencing, which is scheduled to hold on 3rd December, 2025.

A member of Comb’s defence team, Marc Agnifilo, described the verdict as a “a victory of all victories.”

Outside the courtroom, he stated that the jury “got the situation right, or certainly right enough.”

Another counsel on Comb’s defence team, Nicole Westmoreland, said: “He actually battled for his freedom, for his innocence, and he did it.

“And, you know, a lot of times, people are too afraid to do it. Today is a major win to show what the system can do.”

The joint verdict emanated after three-day deliberation. In the courtroom in Manhattan, cheers emerged from Combs’ family─and the hip hop icon himself held his hands up in mood of prayer, staring at the jury and warmly embraced his defence counsel Teny Geragos,

The mood appeared dissimilar to the one a day earlier after Combs was informed that the jury had reached a verdict on four of the five charged brought against him, but were divided on the charge of racketeering

After so long deliberating on Wednesday, they arrived on an unanimous verdict. As the verdict was pronounced, ‘Diddy’ seemed overwhelmed, kneeling at his chair and bowing his head to pray once again.

“I’ll be home soon,” he told his family members. “I love you, Mum.”

On The Bail Application

Combs’ defence counsels implored that as he has been acquitted of the most grievous charges, he should be granted bail prior to sentencing.

Combs’ counsel Marc Agnifilo said he had become a model prisoner and continued: “He’s not going to flee. He’s been given his life back.”

But prosecutor Maurene Comey noted that Combs had a history of violence, which was agreed with by Judge Arub Subramanian. “At trial, the defence conceded the defendant’s violence in his personal relationships,” he said.

After his bail denial, Combs moved to get the judge’s attention, but after engaging his lawyer Mr. Agnifilo, he did not say a word.

“By coming forward with her experience, Cassie has left an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and the fight for justice,” he said.

“We must repeat – with no reservation – that we believe and support our client, who showed exemplary courage throughout this trial.”

Cassie, who appeared heavily pregnant in a period of three weeks before childbearing, exhibited “unquestionable strength”, he stated, and “brought attention to the realities of powerful men in our orbit”.

Clips of “freak off” sessions with Combs’ male escorts were played to jurors only amid the seven weeks of trial, with the content made private and kept from public notice and media ,in the court.

Combs’ former staff, with escorts, hotel staff and police staff were among those testifying. Cassie and Jane, who used pseudonym, also testified.

They revealed that they were forced into the fuel-enhanced “freak offs”, which were also referred to as “hotel nights” or “wild king nights”, with male escorts, and abused got abused throughout their relationships with the rap icon

Combs’ defence lawyers presented a dissimilar image to show that sexual acts, including freak offs, were cordially agreed on.

The admitted that Combs could be violent, had an unpleasant temper and abused drugs. He also involved in various relationships at the same time. But importantly, they said, while he was “not proud” of some of his attitude, not one of it makes him guilty of all the charges brought against him.

After narrating the evidence of flights and travel for escorts and Cassie and Jane, financed by Combs. as well as hotel bookings across US and the Caribbean, the court found him guilty of the transportation of prostitutes.
