• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

abuja —

Winning Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) is often seen as a quick ticket to permanent wealth, luxury cars, and brand endorsement deals. Many people believe that once a contestant wins the show, their life becomes perfect and free of financial worries. However, the reality of overnight fame is much more complicated and difficult than it looks on television. No one shows this struggle better right now than Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known to her millions of fans as Phyna.

Since winning BBNaija Season 7 (“Level Up”) in 2022, the high-energy reality star has constantly been in the news. Recently, her actions on social media have turned into a massive storm. From sadly admitting that she mismanaged her ₦100 million grand prize to getting into huge online fights with popular critic VeryDarkMan and Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, Phyna’s current situation is a major talking point. The drama got so intense that her official Instagram account was temporarily suspended. This whole situation has opened up a bigger conversation in Nigeria about how sudden wealth, social media fights, and fame can affect young celebrities.

The ₦100 Million Mistake: The Truth About Sudden Wealth
At the center of Phyna’s recent problems is a very honest confession that surprised many people in the entertainment industry: her deep regret over how she spent her BBNaija prize money. When Phyna won the show in late 2022, she received a grand prize package worth ₦100 million. It was a massive moment for an underdog who had fought hard all through her season. However, once the television cameras went off, real life began.

In recent interviews and videos, Phyna opened up about the heavy financial pressure that comes with sudden wealth in Nigeria. She honestly admitted that a huge portion of her money slipped through her fingers. She explained that she lacked good financial advice, had too many family members and friends depending on her for money, and had to pay for the expensive lifestyle expected of a celebrity. From renting a high-end apartment in Lagos to paying for personal security and public relations, the money disappeared much faster than she ever imagined.

Phyna’s confession breaks the illusion that a big cash prize solves all of life’s problems forever. Winners are often thrown from ordinary life into millions of naira overnight without knowing how to manage that kind of wealth. Her story shows that reality TV stars need real financial guidance and mentorship programs so they do not lose everything as quickly as they gained it.

Online Warfare: The Fights with VeryDarkMan and Israel DMW
While her honest talk about money made some fans feel sorry for her, Phyna was also busy fighting big wars on social media. She got into two separate, bitter arguments with two very popular internet figures: Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and Israel Afeare (Israel DMW), who works closely with the music superstar Davido.

The fight with VeryDarkMan started because of different opinions on how celebrities should behave online. VDM is famous for making raw, unedited videos where he criticizes public figures. When he turned his attention to Phyna, criticizing her public outbursts and the brands she works with, she did not stay quiet. Being a naturally expressive person, Phyna replied with angry videos of her own. This back-and-forth quickly became an internet spectacle, with fans taking sides and making the argument worse in the comment sections.

At the exact same time, she was fighting another battle with Israel DMW. This argument started from basic online banter that quickly turned into personal insults. Israel DMW, using his popular position as part of Davido’s team, exchanged very harsh words with the reality star. Accusations and insults flew across Instagram stories and Snapchat feeds for days.

These fights show a very exhausting part of being a celebrity in Nigeria today. For a star like Phyna, who built her brand on being completely unfiltered and honest, walking away from an online fight is hard. However, staying in the fight often does great damage to a celebrity’s professional image and reputation.

Losing the Platform: The Instagram Account Suspension
The heavy weight of all these simultaneous online fights eventually led to a real, costly consequence. After a massive wave of internet users reported her account for cyberbullying and breaking community rules during her heated arguments, Instagram temporarily suspended Phyna’s official page.

For a modern celebrity and content creator, an Instagram page is not just a social media account; it is their actual place of business. It is where they display their work, talk to fans, and get paid by big corporate brands for advertisements. When her page was taken down, her fans, known as the “Phynation,” were deeply shocked. The suspension showed everyone how fragile digital platforms can be. When a celebrity loses their page, their visibility drops instantly, and their business deals are put at serious risk.

The suspension of her page was the breaking point of the social media storm. It proved that the digital world has strict rules. When online behavior becomes too toxic, the system will punish the user, no matter how famous or verified they are. It forced Phyna into silence, giving the public and the star herself a moment to think about the dangers of continuous internet drama.

Moving Forward: The Need for Change
As Phyna works to get her digital business back on track and restore her page, this difficult period serves as a major turning point in her life. The exact same qualities that made people love her on Big Brother Naija her raw honesty and her readiness to defend herself have become dangerous to her career in the corporate world of brand endorsements.

To survive in the entertainment industry for a long time, Phyna will need to make some major changes. Admitting her financial mistakes is a great first step toward fixing her businesses, which include acting, hosting events, and creating digital content. However, she must also learn the power of silence. On Nigerian social media, refusing to reply to insults is often the smartest move a celebrity can make. If Phyna can take her great energy away from internet drama and put it entirely into her creative talents, this chaotic storm will be remembered as the moment she truly grew into a mature professional.
