Akure —

Nigerian singer Afolarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, rewarded a devoted fan with N500,000 during his homecoming concert in Ibadan, creating one of the night’s most memorable moments.

The singer held the concert on Saturday, October 3, at Agodi Gardens in Ibadan, Oyo State. The event brought together music lovers, entertainers and other guests for a celebration of Fola’s growing career and connection with his hometown.

Fola made the moment special when he invited a fan with a tattoo of his face onto the stage. After seeing the tattoo, the singer promised to give the supporter N500,000. The gesture quickly became a major talking point from the concert.

Meanwhile, the concert featured several performances that kept the audience engaged throughout the night. Fola performed some of his popular songs, including “B4 B4,” “Very Soon” and “You,” giving fans an opportunity to sing along to records that have helped shape his recent rise.

The singer also welcomed several Nigerian artistes to the stage. Ayo Maff, TML Vibez, T.I Blaze, Bella Shmurda, Kidd Carder and Magixx were among the performers who entertained the crowd during the event. Their appearances added variety and energy to the show.

Fola’s homecoming also carried a deeper meaning because Ibadan remains closely connected to his story. Ahead of the concert, the singer described the city as home and said returning to perform there meant a lot to him.

For Fola, therefore, the event represented more than another concert date. It gave him a chance to celebrate his progress with people from the city where his journey began. It also allowed local fans to experience his growing success in person.

The timing of the concert was particularly significant. Fola is coming off a strong year that has expanded his audience and strengthened his position in Nigeria’s music industry. His recent records have also increased attention around his name ahead of his next major release.

One of those records is “B4 B4,” his collaboration with Davido and Mayorkun. The song enjoyed a lengthy run at the top of Nigeria’s Official Top 100 earlier this year. Although it later lost the number one position, its chart performance helped raise Fola’s profile.

In addition, Fola has recorded other successful releases in 2026. His collaboration with Shoday on “Paparazzi” reached the top of the Official Nigeria Top 100, while “it’s over,” featuring Bella Shmurda and Zlatan, also made a strong chart impact.

As a result, the Ibadan concert arrived at an important stage in Fola’s career. The singer was not returning to his hometown as an unknown performer. Instead, he came back after building a wider audience and earning recognition across Nigeria’s music scene.

His growing profile is also reflected in his awards recognition. Fola has received 10 nominations for the 18th Headies, including a nomination in the Next Rated category. The nominations further underline the momentum surrounding his music.

However, the homecoming was not only about awards and chart positions. The response from fans showed the personal relationship that can develop between artistes and their audiences. The N500,000 gift offered a clear example of that connection.

The tattooed fan’s appearance also showed how music can inspire supporters to express their admiration in different ways. For Fola, rewarding the fan turned that display of loyalty into a memorable exchange shared with everyone at the venue.

The event had also been building anticipation before the performance. Fola had announced the homecoming as a return to the city that shaped him, and interest grew as the date approached. Local supporters and music fans looked forward to seeing the singer perform on familiar ground, making the eventual celebration feel especially meaningful. The crowd’s response reflected that excitement throughout the night from start.

Fola’s performance also gave the audience a preview of the momentum surrounding his next chapter. His sophomore album, titled “9,” is scheduled for release on October 9. The project follows his debut album, “Catharsis,” which arrived in September 2025.

The new album comes at a time when expectations around Fola have increased. With successful collaborations, chart-topping records and major award nominations behind him, listeners will be watching closely to see how he builds on his recent progress.

Importantly, the Ibadan show allowed Fola to balance that growing national attention with his local roots. He performed for fans who have followed his journey while also sharing the stage with artistes who represent different parts of Nigeria’s current music scene.

Social media reactions have since added to the conversation around the event. The footage of Fola presenting the fan with the N500,000 reward has drawn attention because it captured a spontaneous moment that went beyond the planned performances.

Fola’s homecoming ultimately combined music, community and appreciation. The concert celebrated his rise, highlighted his connection with Ibadan and gave fans an entertaining night. At the centre of it all was the fan whose tattoo earned a remarkable reward.

As Fola prepares for the release of “9,” the Ibadan homecoming provides another important chapter in his fast-moving career. The N500,000 gesture may have lasted only moments on stage, but it gave the concert a human story that audiences are likely to remember.

More importantly, the night demonstrated how an artiste’s relationship with fans can shape a live event. Fola returned to Ibadan to celebrate his progress, but he also created a moment that placed one supporter at the centre of the spotlight.

With his new album arriving days after the concert, Fola now moves into another phase of his career. For the singer, the Ibadan homecoming offered both a celebration of what he has achieved and a reminder of the supporters who continue to follow his journey.
