Akure —
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has unveiled the cast of Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, the sequel to his 2023 epic film. The announcement, shared in a video on his social media pages on Friday, October 16, introduces new performers and confirms the return of familiar faces. The film is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on December 4, 2026.
Alongside established Nollywood actors, the lineup includes Fuji musicians, a comedian and other screen performers.
However, the production team has not yet disclosed every character’s role or released a synopsis of the sequel.
NEW STARS JOIN THE CAST
Actress Funke Akindele is among the new additions. She has built a strong profile through film and television projects, and her appearance adds another recognisable name to the production.
Adebayo has not explained which character she will play, so details about her role remain unconfirmed.
Fuji musicians Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma are also joining the cast.
Their inclusion brings prominent music figures into a film led by a story rooted in Yoruba epic traditions.
Other new additions include actress Muka Ray, comedian and content creator Cute Abiola, and a performer identified in reports as Kano State. Veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, known as Ogogo, is also listed among the cast.
FAMILIAR FACES RETURN
The sequel will also bring back several performers from the original film. They include Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Ademoye, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Odunlade Adekola and Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D Icon.
Other returning cast members include Fathia Balogun, Adebayo Salami, Muyiwa Ademola, Yinka Quadri and Dele Odule.
Their return connects the new film with the story and characters that audiences met in 2023. At the same time, the new additions could widen the story’s range, although the filmmakers have not explained how each character will fit into the plot.
Adebayo praised the cast’s work in comments accompanying the announcement. He said the performers brought different qualities to the fictional world, including power, anger and moments when silence communicated more than dialogue.
He also described a production process that involved rehearsals, retakes, laughter and unexpected moments behind the scenes.
The filmmaker added that the cast eventually brought their different personalities together to tell one story.
WHAT THE FIRST FILM ESTABLISHED
The first Jagun Jagun film premiered on Netflix on August 10, 2023. It follows Gbotija, a young fighter who joins the army of Ogundiji, a powerful warlord.
Gbotija wants to avenge his father’s death, but his growing strength begins to threaten the leader who commands the army.
As Gbotija proves his ability, Ogundiji sees him as a possible danger to his authority. The conflict develops around power, loyalty, ambition and revenge.
These themes helped shape the original film’s central tension, while its Yoruba-language setting and period-inspired world gave the story a distinct cultural identity.
Tope Adebayo Salami and Adebayo Tijani directed the first instalment. The film received recognition at major African awards ceremonies.
At the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, it won Best Indigenous Language Movie, West Africa, and Best Costume Design.
It also received seven nominations at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards and won three prizes. Those awards recognised achievement in makeup, visual effects and supporting acting, with Femi Adebayo receiving the supporting actor prize.
DECEMBER NETFLIX PREMIERE
Adebayo announced earlier in October that Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors would arrive on Netflix on December 4, 2026. He described the project as the result of two years of work, sacrifice and challenges.
The cast announcement adds another milestone to the film’s promotional campaign as the release date approaches.
The planned Netflix premiere gives the sequel an international streaming platform from launch.
WHAT VIEWERS STILL NEED TO KNOW
Several details remain under wraps. The filmmakers have not published a complete synopsis explaining how the new story will develop, nor have they identified every actor’s character.
A full trailer or official Netflix listing may provide more information about the plot, the setting and the relationship between returning and new characters.
For now, the confirmed developments are the cast reveal and the scheduled December 4 premiere. The lineup combines established actors with music stars and comedy talent, creating a broad ensemble. Viewers will ultimately judge the story, performances, pacing and production quality.
The cast announcement also highlights the range of talent working across Nigeria’s entertainment sectors. Nollywood actors, Fuji musicians and online comedy personalities reach different audiences, and their participation may attract viewers who follow their work in other settings.
As the premiere approaches, further official updates may clarify the characters, story and promotional schedule. Until then, audiences can revisit the 2023 film to refresh their memories of Gbotija, Ogundiji and the struggle for power at the heart of the original.
That background may help viewers follow the sequel, although the new film’s full direction remains unknown.
As anticipation builds, viewers will also be watching to see how the sequel develops its characters and expands the story. Its reception could further strengthen interest in Nigerian historical epics and their growing appeal to audiences locally and internationally.
With the cast now unveiled, Jagun Jagun 2 moves closer to its Netflix debut. Adebayo has confirmed a mix of returning performers and new additions, but he has kept key story details private.
The next trailer or production update should offer a clearer picture of what audiences can expect when the film premieres in December.
