Dominant PSG destroy Inter Milan 5-0 as they win first UEFA Champions League title

Following impressive outings since the start of the tournament, PSG become the eventual winners.

Paris Saint-Germain destroyed Inter Milan 5-0 to claim first-ever Champions League title in the history of the club and the competition.

It was a night to forget as Luis Enrique’s teams also recorded historic treble following their victory in Munich, where Desire Doue nets a brace, with Achraf Hakimi, Khyicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu also getting on the scoresheet.

PSG Won Are UEFA Champions League First-Time Winners

Paris Saint-Germain have won the UEFA Champions League for the first time in an impressive style after producing biggest scoreline ever in the final of the competition following their 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in Munich.

The French champions, who dumped out Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal on their way to final, clinched the most-coveted title in European tournament to end their thirst for Champions League trophy.

The club’s performance, last night, was overwhelming as they confidently pressed and knocked the ball around from the start of the match to finish, and went on to becomes the second French club, in the history of the competition, to win the trophy after Marseille in 1993.

Inter Had No Clue All Night

PSG players easily cut through Inter Milan’s defence as the 12th minute, Vitinha’s pass released Desire Doue inside the box−in a position where the 19-year-old could have fired a shot but decided to exhibit greater composure, than his age, as he passed to ball to Achraf Hakimi who just had to tap home for the opener on the night.

PSG were dominant all through the night and scored their second goal eight minutes after the first, courtesy, Doue’s strike.

The second goal started brilliantly with Willian Pacho, who kept the ball in play  to deprive Inter Milan of a corner. It set PSG away, found Ousmane Dembele who accelerated into acres of space before freeing Doue, whose effort cannoned off Federico Dimarco before beating helpless Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

In the second-half, PSG control on the game continued with Khyicha Kvaratskhelia failed to convert two clear chances before Doue completed his brace of the night.

It was a busy night for PSG and they showed no sign of fatigue.

Dembele sent the ball beyond a tired Inter defence and Kvaratshkelia scampered away and rolled the ball pass Sommer.

Inter Milan looked fatigued as they looked out on their feet, which could mean that there was more misery coming for the Italian side.

Senny Mayulu’s saw his strike crash in off the post to bring an end to an historic night for the Ligue 1 champions, who also completed a treble and recorded biggest win in the history of Champions League finals.

Analysing the PSG’s big victory by Sky Sports’ Adam Bate at the Allianz Arena (Munich)

“Maybe it is too early to call it era-defining in the way that Real Madrid’s 7-3 win in 1960 was or AC Milan’s 4-0 demolition of Barcelona seemed in 1994.

“Then there was Barca’s win in 2011. But none of them – none−won this trophy by five clear goals.

“It is an extraordinary way for Paris Saint-Germain to win the Champions League for the first time in their history.

“It should mark the end of a journey but for Luis Enrique’s young team, this 5-0 win over Internazionale feels like the beginning of something.”

PSG manager Luis Enrique has become the second manager to win a treble on Europe’s soil with two different clubs, previously having done it with Barcelona in 2014/15 season−and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola with Barcelona in 2008/09 and Manchester City 2022/23 seasons, respectively.

‘I Strived To Calm The Pressure’ – Enrique

According to PSG manager Luis Enrique: “I tried to keep the pressure down for a club that had never won the competition.

“Inter are a great side but we were fantastic in our pressing. Every player improved this season and so did the team.

“A coach needs to control their emotions – you need to deal with the pressure in order to help the players.

We prepared the final with the necessary calm to put the excitement in the right place. Now we can enjoy it; we can take the trophy back to Paris.

“We prepared very well for this game to be at that level. The team was excellent; we pressed with high intensity. Ousmane Dembele pressured their defenders and goalkeepers constantly.

We had a great start to the game, dominating from the beginning.

But I wanted them to keep pushing, scoring, to ensure we won the game.

“Since day one, I said I wanted to win important trophies, and Paris had never won the Champions League. We did it for the first time. It’s a great feeling to make many people happy.

“I’m very happy. It was very emotional at the end with the banner from the fans for my family. But I always think about my daughter.”

‘UCL Trophy Means Everything’ – Vitinha

In the post-match chat with TNT Sports, PSG midfielder Vitinha said: “It means everything.

“The fans are the main reason we wanted to win this trophy but we wanted it for a lot of reasons.

“It’s our dream, it’s my dream and I’m glad we made it.

“The win says a lot about this group of players. It’s a very good team and the result is not by magic.

“Now we are going to celebrate.”

‘It Was Indeed A Great Feeling For PSG And Luis Enrique

In the analysis of Sky Sports’ pundit Lewis Jones: “What Luis Enrique has built and is building is so special. The PSG boss has been at the centre of the celebrations.

“Thoughts switch to his late daughter Xana, who passed away at the age of nine.

“An emotional success this is.

“This was as perfect as it can be from a football team. Relentless without the ball and so dangerous with it.

“Inter didn’t stand a chance. They got run off the pitch. PSG are a beast. The first of many Champions Leagues, no doubt.

“And Spurs have to play them in the UEFA Super Cup. Gulp.”

According to Opta, this is a historic night for PSG

PSG were crowned the winners of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the history of the club, considering the winners of the competition, PSG became the ninth different European club to win the treble, and the first French club to do so.

Italian side, Inter Milan have now lost four of their five European Cup/Champions League finals with only Juventus (7), Benfica (5) and Bayern Munich (5) have finished runners-up on more occasions than Inter (4).

We Will Learn From Loss – Inzaghi

Italian football legend and Inter Milan head coach Simone Inzaghi said after the final match: “Paris deserved to win this game and the trophy.

“We’re disappointed but the path to this point was great. As coach, I am proud of my players. The game, of course, wasn’t good enough on our part.

“I thanked my players for what they did this season. We didn’t win a trophy but I am proud to be their coach.

“We need to learn from defeats and come out stronger. This hurts like the Istanbul final [2023 defeat to Manchester City]. It was a different game. Paris were constantly first on the ball. We needed to do much better.

“We gave everything we had to get to this point, playing 58 games this season. We’re disappointed, sad. The players gave their all.”
