Defence Minister, Matawalle Links Zamfara Governor To Banditry – The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has challenged Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to swear with the Quran that he has no hands in banditry affecting the state.
The Minister of State for Defence, Matawalle Bello, gave this blockbuster charge on Tuesday during a plenary session where he addressed the Media.
The Minister categorically blamed the governor for the acts of terrorism being witnessed in the state and challenged the governor to refute the claim, if he could.

The Minister rejected the initial claims by Governor Dauda Lawal and accused the Governor of having a link to banditry in the state.
On the other hand, the Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Dauda Lawal laid a counter-accusation by accusing the Minister of State for Defence, Matawalle Bello of sponsoring banditry and terrorism in the state and its environs.
Governor Dauda Lawal also accused Mr Matawalle Bello of money laundering during his tenure as the governor of Zamfara State between the 29th of May, 2019 and the 29th of May, 2023.
Reacting to the Governor’s allegations, Mr Bello Matawalle recalled how he swore using the Quran that he had no connection with banditry in the state and demanded that the incumbent governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal should do the same by swearing by the Holy Quran.

This development is quite disturbing because the innocent people of the Northern state of Zamfara have suffered consistent terrorist attacks and their lives impoverished due to the nefarious activities of terrorist assailants.
It is sad to mildly put that those who are tasked with the responsibility of serving or once served as the Chief Security Officers of the State are now being accused of being behind the disastrous waves of terrorist attacks in the state.
Various groups have now demanded the Presidency to investigate the claims against the Minister of State for Defence, and the National Assembly to launch a probe against the Governor of Zamfara State, Mr Dauda Lawal.
