LONDON —

13 persons have been killed and many others injured when gunmen attacked the Ngbra Zongo community of Kwall District, Basa Local Government of Plateau State.

According to reports on the Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 12 midnight while residents were asleep.

A resident of the community, Mr. Philip Alanga, who spoke to journalists on Friday in Jos, said the attackers invaded the community and began shooting sporadically, throwing many residents into panic and forcing them to flee.

“They came into the community and started shooting. They moved from one house to another attacking innocent people,” Alanga said.

Another member of the community, Mr Chigoji Rocku, disclosed that three of those killed during the attack were expectant mothers.

Speaking on the attack, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Mr. Danjuma Auta, confirmed the incident to journalists in Jos, describing the incident as tragic and condemnable
Auta lamented the recurring attacks on communities in Bassa LGA, and other parts of the state.

He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards protecting lives and property in rural communities.

Auta further urged security operatives to swiftly track down  the perpetrators of the attack and ensure that justice is served to deter further violence in the area.

He also listed items recovered including “nine fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, four empty AK-47 magazines, seven skeletal AK-47 rifles, and 10 rifle butts”

“Other items recovered are 36 empty shells of 7.62mm special ammunition, four revolver engines, 14 recoiling springs, six hand drilling machines, nine filing machines, four welding machines, and assorted industrial equipment,” he added.

Bandits Kill 11 in An Attack On Katsina Community
Bandits have killed  24 people in separate attacks on Jikamshi and Gwalgoro communities in Musawa and Kankia local government areas, respectively, in Katsina State.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at Jikamshi market, where seven people were shot dead as traders were closing for the day.

The Nigerian troops had earlier neutralised 45 terrorists during a gun battle with bandits terrorising the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Witnesses said about 15 armed men riding motorcycles stormed the market, opened fire, and looted goods worth millions of naira.

The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Musawa LGA confirmed that the victims had been buried according to Islamic rites.

“The scale of the attack is enormous. We believe in the efforts of the state government, but the situation is beyond its control. There must be moral, financial, and military support from the federal government,” he said.

Among those killed was Tukur Aliyu, who had returned from Lagos after attending his daughter’s wedding. He left behind three wives, about 20 children, and several
One of his wives, who spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented the family’s condition.

“Our lives are in danger now. He was our breadwinner, struggling to keep the family going. Now he is gone, we don’t know how we will survive,” she said.

Rabi’u Ashiru, 35, a trader dealing in phones and recharge cards, was also killed in his shop at Bakin Kasuwa, Jikamshi. His wedding was scheduled to take place in a few months.

His father, said the loss had thrown the family into mourning and devastation.

“We are completely confused. We have lost a pillar of the family. He paid school fees, fed us, and catered to our needs. We don’t know what to do,” he said, amidst tears

A former member of the Jikamshi security committee, Bilyaminu Abubakar, who recently relocated to Katsina city due to insecurity, described the attacks as a calculated effort to destabilise the region.

“Those who claimed to have repented but did not lay down their arms are still terrorising our communities. Authorities are aware, but nothing tangible is being done,” he alleged

In the last two months, between March and May, 2026, over 40 people have been killed in Katsina State, according to media reports collated by Daily Trust
