• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

The woes of insufficient electricity on small businesses in Barkin-Ladi Local Government area of Plateau State cannot be over-emphasised.

The insufficiency of electricity has been plaguing businesses in the Barkin-Ladi local government area of Plateau State, Nigeria.

In recent years, many young individuals in the Barkin-Ladi area of Plateau state have ventured into small-scale businesses purposely to seek self-reliance and gain financial independence.

These microenterprises, including fish retailing, tailoring, welding, and electronics sales among others, deeply relied on unwavering electrical power for their productions.

Additionally, these businesses are the most trending and common among the youths, if not mining and farming, requiring specialised skills, experience and substantial capital.

However, electricity scarcity has become a momentous obstruction, hampering the accomplishment of these enterprises, and in addition, the economic growth of the community.

The Central Impact Of Steady Electricity

Stable electricity is crucial for the efficient operation of small-scale businesses.

For example; fish retailers, require refrigeration to keep their products safe for consumption.

Also, Tailors rely on industrial sewing machines that operate with electrical power, while welding too, requires electrical power to run their welding utensils.

Electronics retailers also need a steady power supply to activate their devices to render services.

Without steadfast electricity, such businesses would face continuous disruptions that can ruthlessly affect their productivity and profitability.

Electricity power is not just a convenience but an essential inevitability in today’s world. Considering how it drives business processes, improves technology as well as stimulates economic growth.

When businesses continue to encounter recurrent electricity outages or conflicting supply, they face increased operational expenses, lower efficiency and loss of profits.

Such unsteadiness can lead to diminished customer satisfaction and eventually to the collapse of businesses. Woes Of Insufficient Electricity On Small Businesses In Barkin-Ladi

Inadequate Concern By Local Authorities

The persistent problem of electricity scarcity is exacerbated by the noticeable neglect by local authorities.

Local governments are to be blamed and often criticized for their deficient efforts to deal with power supply troubles.

This lack of interference has left micro businesses struggling to manage unreliable electricity accessibility.

The deficiency of consistent attention from local authorities means that businesses are left to fend for themselves, exacerbating the challenges they face.

If businesses fend for themselves, there will be high rates of prices, and recurrent inflation among others; these will in turn affect the well-being of the society.

Likewise, the local government’s neglect is further compounded by inadequate maintenance of electrical infrastructure.

Transformers and other critical utensils suffer from deprived upkeep leading to regular breakdowns and power outages.

Poor Professionalism

Unethical operations imbued in some technicians, further contribute to the problem.

These technicians cut corners, perform substandard work, or engage in corrupt practices, that further undermine the reliability of the power supply.

Such continued delinquency has become widespread in some areas due to the personal demand of the company’s technician.

This is following a methodical grace that the operators are duly taking advantage of, in plentiful occurrences.

They predominantly become conscious that a greater part of the residents in Kampani I, Kampani II, Anguwan Mahauta, Anguwan Kwano, Anguwan Izalatul Bidia, Madaras, Anguwan Kan Tudu, are not clued-up enough to sketch the underlying settings and arrangement of the customers right and protection.

Therefore the desired influence by the behaviours of incompetent personnel, and directly communicating with the external public is a distressing must of the customers.

However, poor transactions between most of the personnel and the external public hampered most operations, in which the consumers’ need is not met to the desired optimum and the company’s fee is not usually attended by the customers.

This climaxes the incompatible conduct between the electrical company and its power consumers, within the aforementioned locations.

It brought about fraud or a form of dishonest traits by collecting dues that are not validly charged by the power company.

What Is Expected Of The Traditional Leaders

Traditional leaders, also, are expected to at least play a minimal role in addressing the electricity crisis. This can hurriedly be achieved by bringing up the issue to the political offices.

In a nutshell, although they clutch noteworthy influence within their community, there has been a noticeable lack of initiative or effort from this segment to address the power supply issues.

Traditional leaders could potentially advocate for their communities, rallying support and pushing for solutions to the electricity crisis disaster.

Their involvement could considerably impact the resolution of the insufficiency, but to the current circumstance, their contribution is yet to be nurtured.

Consequences For Small-Scale Businesses

The neglect of electricity issues in Barkin-Ladi has harsh implications for small-scale businesses.

Businesses that can’t rely on a steady power supply are at the risk of liquidating and diminishing.

This instability will drastically weaken the progress of self-reliance among youth and affect the sustainability of their investments.

The deficiency of reliable power, could not only obstruct current businesses but also prevent potential entrepreneurs from entering the market, stiffen development, economic growth and transparency.

Most of the youths who ventured into the systems in Barkin-Ladi are with the belief that such small-scale businesses represent their path to financial independence and community improvement.

When these businesses fail due to power issues, the community at large would suffer. It would increase unemployment rates and possibly, economic opportunities would swiftly lessen.

This would leave many in an uncertain condition.

A Call To Action

Restoring dependable electricity is of the essence, for the accomplishment of small-scale businesses and the general economic health of communities.

The state government must step in and come to the aid of this community by taking decisive action to address this issue.

The government can achieve this by Investing in the infrastructural facilities, maintenance, and enhanced management of electrical resources.

The government can also provide rigorous oversight of technicians to provide essential solutions and steps toward guaranteeing a constant power supply.

Being an artistic environment, which is filled up with multiple tribes, with each holding an esteemed ruling system, it would be a feasible alternative to form a collaborative union to face political officeholders to address such issues.

Since culture is a strong determining factor in the community, the fusion of the culture pots is another critical idea that should be utilised to proffer solutions to the problem.

Local authorities and traditional leaders must also play their part in advocating for and facilitating solutions to the electricity crisis.

Collaboration between governmental bodies, and community leaders, is a crucial and fastest technique in developing effective approaches to resolve the underlying complicatedness.

In conclusion, the stability of the electricity supply is a critical and vital tool for the thriving of small-scale businesses and the pursuit of self-reliance among the youth as exemplified.

The current neglect by local authorities and traditional leaders has brutal repercussions for economic development and the advancement of the community and individual enterprises.

Plateau state government must make out as well understand the pressing urgency, and speedily take meaningful actions to restore sustainable power for the benefit of all.
