• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Where talent ends Jayson Tatum begins. In a sport crowded with raw skill and natural flair, few athletes rise to the level where their very presence redefines expectations.

Tatum is not just an all-star, nor merely the face of a historic franchise.

He is the standard-bearer of a new generation of basketball.

For fans of the game and purists of performance, Jayson Tatum offers a masterclass in consistency, humility, and excellence that stretches far beyond the surface of highlights and box scores.

Born on March 3, 1998, in St. Louis, Missouri, Tatum grew up with basketball in his blood.

His mother, Brandy Cole, raised him as a single parent while pursuing her own academic goals—instilling in him a discipline and drive that have since become his signature.

The young Tatum quickly caught the attention of scouts with his exceptional footwork, soft shooting touch, and intuitive court vision.

But it wasn’t until his time at Duke University that the world began to understand the depth of his potential.

When the Boston Celtics selected Jayson Tatum as the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, there were murmurs of surprise—largely because the team had traded down to get him.

But what might have seemed like a gamble at the time has since proven to be one of the most rewarding decisions in the franchise’s storied history.

Where Talent Ends Jayson Tatum Begins

Tatum stepped into the league with an old soul and a polished game, navigating the pressure of the NBA playoffs as a rookie and displaying a maturity far beyond his years.

Since then, his evolution has been nothing short of poetic.

Each season, Tatum has added new layers to his game—from improved defense and shot creation to vocal leadership and emotional resilience.

He has transformed from a promising youngster into a perennial MVP candidate, shouldering the hopes of Celtics fans with grace and grit.

What truly separates Tatum from many of his contemporaries is not just his scoring prowess—though he has racked up 50-point games and buzzer-beaters with startling frequency.

It’s the way he carries himself. There is a calm, methodical intelligence in how he approaches each game.

He plays like someone who understands that basketball is not just about athleticism, but about rhythm, timing, and psychology.

Where Talent Ends Jayson Tatum Begins

His footwork is balletic, his jump shot almost meditative, and his court awareness nearly telepathic.

In the 2022-2023 NBA season, Tatum etched his name in the annals of Celtics history by becoming the first player in franchise history to average over 30 points per game in a season.

That alone would have been remarkable. But he did it while also excelling on the defensive end, guarding the league’s best players night after night.

He was named to the All-NBA First Team and led Boston deep into the playoffs, reaffirming his place among basketball’s elite.

Beyond the numbers and accolades lies a more compelling story, the story of a young man who has embraced responsibility at every level.

As a father to his son, Deuce, Tatum often brings him to games, post-game interviews, and even practice sessions.

In doing so, he offers a portrait of balance, showing that greatness on the court can go hand-in-hand with intentional fatherhood and personal growth.

Where Talent Ends Jayson Tatum Begins

Deuce has become something of a fan-favorite in his own right, a reminder that behind the superstar is a man who understands what matters most.

Tatum’s humility is as powerful as his game. He is often the first to deflect praise and the last to point fingers when things go wrong.

In a media landscape eager for drama and conflict, he offers a refreshing contrast—letting his performance speak for him.

Even when criticized for not being “flashy” enough or for being too “reserved,” Tatum has never wavered from his path.

He plays with a quiet storm brewing inside, a fire that fuels his work ethic and feeds his ambition.

His relationship with the city of Boston is another chapter worth celebrating. In a city known for its passionate and demanding sports culture, Tatum has earned not just admiration but deep respect.

He is seen as a bridge between past legends and future champions.

Following in the footsteps of Larry Bird, Paul Pierce, and other Celtics icons, Tatum has managed to carve out his own identity, one that honors the past while defining the future.

There have been hurdles, of course. Injuries, team slumps, coaching changes, and the ever-present scrutiny of the NBA spotlight have all tested him.

But true greatness is measured not in how high you climb, but how you weather the storms. Tatum has emerged from each challenge sharper, stronger, and more focused.

Where Talent Ends Jayson Tatum Begins

His growth has been incremental and intentional, a testimony to the fact that while talent may open the door, it is discipline and character that keep it open.

Critics often debate who the “face of the league” should be as the LeBron and Curry eras gradually fade.

While names like Luka Dončić and Giannis Antetokounmpo are rightly part of the conversation, Tatum’s name deserves equal footing.

He embodies a complete player—offensively dynamic, defensively reliable, and emotionally steady.

More importantly, he represents a new kind of sports hero: one who doesn’t seek the spotlight but commands it by virtue of excellence.

As of 2025, with an NBA championship now added to his growing résumé, Tatum stands not just as a product of potential realized, but as a symbol of what basketball can be at its finest.

In the fast-paced world of modern sports, where attention spans are short and hot takes dominate discussions, Jayson Tatum is a reminder that greatness is often quiet, steady, and intentional.

Where talent ends Jayson Tatum begins, not because he is void of talent, but because his greatness stems from something deeper: a mastery built on integrity, shaped by effort, and crowned by an unshakable sense of purpose.

He doesn’t just play the game. He elevates it. And in doing so, he elevates us all.
