• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

KaNo —

The Kano State Fire Service on Friday rescued three persons, including an 18-month-old child, from separate well accidents in Kumbotso and Warawa Local Government Areas of the state.

The victims include a middle-aged man and a woman identified as Maimuna Shitu, her son, Harisu Muntari, were pulled out of wells during rescue operations carried out between 7:06 am and 9:40am

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the first incident occurred in the Semegu area near El-Sadeeq Bread in Kumbotso Local Government Area, where an unidentified man reportedly fell into a well.

“Upon receiving the report, our men from the State Headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene”the statement reads

“On arrival, they discovered an unidentified man, about 40 years old, who had fallen inside a well.
“The victim was rescued unconscious and handed over to the Divisional Crime Officer of the Panshekara Police Division, Salisu Salihu, for further investigation,” the statement said

The Fire Service said it later received another distress call from Madarin Taba Village in Warawa Local Government Area.

According to the statement, Maimuna Shitu, 32, who was said to be suffering from mental illness, and her 18-month-old son, Harisu Muntari, fell into a well.

“Our men were also dispatched to the scene. On arrival, they found the woman and her son inside the well. Both victims were rescued unconscious and handed over to the Ward Head, Yusuf Surajo, and the woman’s father, Muhammad Shitu,” it added

The  service said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

Reacting, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents to ensure wells are properly covered to prevent avoidable tragedies.

He also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor vulnerable persons, particularly children and individuals with health challenges.

Gov Yusuf Reaffirms Commitments To  Protecting Citizens Lives And Properties
In a bid to strengthen intelligence gathering for the protection of lives and property, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining support for intelligence agencies to tackle emerging threats across the North-West region.

Yusuf gave the assurance during the opening of the 20th North-West Zonal Directors’ Conference organised by the Department of State Services (DSS), Kano State Command.

He described the conference as a critical platform for security chiefs to exchange ideas, share experiences, and adopt coordinated strategies to address insecurity in the region.

“It is my pleasure to welcome you to Kano for this important conference. This gathering provides us with a vital platform to exchange ideas, share experiences, and adopt new strategies through coordinated dialogue,” he said.

The governor noted that Kano, being the most populous and cosmopolitan state in the North-West, continues to prioritise security, stressing that threats confronting neighbouring states also affect Kano due to the interconnected nature of insecurity.

He cited the recent abduction of the Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area, Alhaji Hamza Musa Durba, as an example of the growing threats in the region.

According to him, the victim was rescued through a prompt intelligence-led operation by the DSS and other security agencies, while the suspects were arrested on March 26, 2026.

“I therefore must say that there is no doubt that our security and intelligence agencies deserve absolute commendation,” Yusuf said.

The governor disclosed that his administration has invested heavily in upgrading security equipment earlier procured for the DSS and promised continued logistical support to all security agencies operating in the state.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting security operations nationwide, noting that the federal government’s determination to secure lives and property has strengthened efforts at the state level.

Yusuf, however, observed that despite Kano’s relative peace, the state still faces threats such as banditry, farmer-herder clashes, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and the activities of miscreants.

The governor applauded the Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, for promoting cooperation among security agencies and enhancing intelligence operations across the country.

“The President made the right choice in appointing him. We remain grateful and urge him to sustain the tempo of restoring peace to Nigeria,” he added.

Earlier, the Kano State Director of the DSS, Abubakar Hussaini, said the conference was convened to strengthen synergy among security agencies and develop strategies to contain security threats in the North-West.

He noted that issues such as banditry, arms trafficking, cybercrime, illegal mining, sabotage of national assets, and hate campaigns continue to threaten peace and national unity.

“The task of containing arms and ammunition trafficking, cyberbullying, illegal mining, and sabotage of critical national assets is not negotiable,” Hussaini said.

He explained that the DSS, as the lead intelligence agency, remains committed to gathering and disseminating actionable intelligence to sister agencies while also carrying out tactical operations to complement enforcement efforts.

Hussaini also commended the Kano State Government and other security agencies for their support and cooperation, stressing that effective collaboration remains key to addressing insecurity in the region.

The conference brought together State Directors of Security from Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, alongside heads of other security agencies operating in the North-West.
