  • Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

Innovation is the driving force behind entrepreneurial success because it helps businesses solve problems, create value, stay competitive, and achieve sustainable growth.

Entrepreneurship is more than starting a business. It is about identifying opportunities, solving real problems, and delivering value in ways that improve people’s lives.

However, in today’s fast-changing business environment, having a great idea is no longer enough.

Markets evolve quickly, customer expectations shift, and new competitors emerge almost every day.

As a result, entrepreneurs who refuse to innovate often struggle to remain relevant.

Innovation allows entrepreneurs to adapt to change, improve products and services, streamline operations, and create unique customer experiences.

Whether a business is a startup or a growing enterprise, innovation provides the foundation for long-term success.

It enables entrepreneurs to remain flexible, seize new opportunities, and build resilient businesses that can withstand economic and market challenges.

Understanding Innovation in Entrepreneurship
Innovation refers to the process of introducing new ideas, methods, products, or services that create value. It is not limited to groundbreaking inventions or advanced technology.

In many cases, innovation involves improving existing processes, finding better ways to serve customers, or developing creative business models.

Successful entrepreneurs understand that innovation is a continuous journey rather than a one-time event. They constantly evaluate market trends, gather customer feedback, and refine their strategies.

Consequently, they stay ahead of competitors while meeting changing consumer needs.

Innovation can take several forms, including product innovation, service innovation, process innovation, marketing innovation, and business model innovation. Each type contributes to business growth in different ways.

Innovation Helps Entrepreneurs Solve Real Problems
Every successful business begins by solving a problem. Customers purchase products and services because they offer solutions to specific needs or challenges.

Therefore, entrepreneurs who focus on innovation are better equipped to identify unmet needs and provide practical solutions.

For instance, many successful companies started by simplifying everyday tasks or making existing products more accessible.

Instead of copying what others were doing, they found creative ways to improve customer experiences.

When entrepreneurs consistently solve meaningful problems, they build trust, strengthen customer relationships, and create lasting value.

Standing Out in a Competitive Market
Competition exists in almost every industry. New businesses enter the market regularly, while established companies continue to expand their offerings.

Under these conditions, entrepreneurs cannot rely solely on pricing or advertising to attract customers.

Innovation creates a competitive advantage by helping businesses offer something unique.

This uniqueness may come from superior product quality, exceptional customer service, improved convenience, or creative delivery methods.

Moreover, innovative businesses often become industry leaders because customers recognize the value they provide.

Instead of competing on price alone, they compete through quality, creativity, and customer satisfaction.

As a result, innovation strengthens brand identity and encourages customer loyalty.

Driving Business Growth and Profitability
Innovation plays a significant role in expanding business opportunities. Entrepreneurs who continuously improve their products or services attract new customers while retaining existing ones.

Additionally, innovation can increase efficiency by reducing production costs, eliminating waste, and improving operational processes.

Businesses that operate efficiently often enjoy higher profit margins and stronger financial performance.

Furthermore, innovative entrepreneurs identify new markets and revenue streams.

They may introduce complementary products, expand into new locations, or adopt digital platforms that reach wider audiences.

Therefore, innovation becomes a powerful engine for sustainable business growth.
Responding to Changing Customer Needs
Customer preferences rarely remain the same.

Trends change, technology advances, and purchasing behavior evolves over time. Entrepreneurs who ignore these changes risk losing relevance.

Innovative entrepreneurs pay close attention to customer feedback and market developments.

They use this information to improve their offerings and deliver better experiences.

For example, many businesses have embraced online shopping, digital payment systems, and personalized customer service because consumer expectations have shifted toward convenience and speed.

By responding proactively, entrepreneurs maintain customer satisfaction and remain competitive in dynamic markets.

Technology as a Catalyst for Innovation
Technology has transformed the way entrepreneurs operate. Today, digital tools make it easier to reach customers, analyze business performance, automate repetitive tasks, and communicate effectively.

Social media platforms, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and e-commerce solutions have opened new possibilities for businesses of all sizes.

Even small enterprises can now compete with larger organizations by using affordable digital technologies.
However, technology alone does not guarantee success.

Entrepreneurs must use these tools strategically to improve efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and solve business challenges.

When combined with creativity and sound decision-making, technology becomes a powerful driver of innovation.

Building a Culture of Innovation
Innovation thrives in environments where creativity is encouraged. Entrepreneurs should create workplaces where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas, experimenting with new approaches, and learning from mistakes.

Open communication, collaboration, and continuous learning all contribute to an innovative culture.

Employees who feel valued are more likely to contribute creative solutions that improve business performance.

In addition, entrepreneurs should invest in training, research, and professional development.

Learning new skills and staying informed about industry trends enable businesses to adapt quickly to change.

A culture of innovation strengthens both employee engagement and organizational resilience.

Overcoming Challenges Through Innovation
Every entrepreneur faces obstacles. Economic uncertainty, changing regulations, supply chain disruptions, and increased competition can create significant challenges.

Innovation helps businesses navigate these difficulties by encouraging flexibility and creative problem-solving.

Instead of viewing challenges as setbacks, innovative entrepreneurs see them as opportunities for improvement.

For example, many businesses developed digital services, remote work solutions, and online customer support during periods of disruption.

These adjustments allowed them to continue serving customers while maintaining operations.

Consequently, innovation increases business resilience and prepares entrepreneurs for future uncertainties.

Characteristics of Innovative Entrepreneurs
Successful innovators often share several important qualities. They remain curious, embrace learning, and stay open to new ideas.

They also take calculated risks instead of avoiding uncertainty completely.
Furthermore, innovative entrepreneurs listen carefully to customers, monitor industry developments, and evaluate business performance regularly.

They are willing to adjust their strategies when circumstances change.
Persistence also plays a crucial role. Not every innovative idea succeeds immediately.

Nevertheless, entrepreneurs who learn from failures and continue improving often achieve lasting success.

These qualities enable entrepreneurs to remain competitive in constantly changing business environments.

The Future of Entrepreneurship Depends on Innovation
The future business landscape will continue to evolve as technology advances, customer expectations increase, and global competition intensifies.

Entrepreneurs who embrace innovation will be better positioned to seize emerging opportunities.

Sustainability, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven decision-making are already shaping the future of entrepreneurship.

Businesses that adapt to these developments while remaining customer-focused will enjoy greater long-term success.

More importantly, innovation will continue to create solutions for social, environmental, and economic challenges.

Entrepreneurs who combine creativity with purpose can make meaningful contributions to society while building profitable enterprises.

Conclusion
Innovation remains one of the most important factors in entrepreneurial success.

It enables businesses to solve real problems, differentiate themselves from competitors, improve efficiency, respond to changing customer needs, and achieve sustainable growth.

Although innovation often requires courage, creativity, and continuous learning, the rewards are substantial.

Entrepreneurs who embrace change, encourage fresh ideas, and remain committed to improvement are more likely to build resilient and successful businesses.

Ultimately, entrepreneurial success is not determined solely by having a brilliant idea.

Instead, it depends on the ability to innovate consistently, adapt confidently, and create lasting value for customers, employees, and society.
