  • Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday, he noted that any proposed meeting on Ukraine which must involve national leaders must be adequately planned.

The remark by Ravrov came a day after the United States President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met to dialogue on how to end conflict between Russia and its neighbouring country, Ukraine.

After the meeting of both leaders, hopes were expressed and shared that after comes a three-way peace dialogue involving Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking on Russian’s TVs’ Rossiya channel, the Russian foreign minister expressed commitment to moves targeted at resolving the crisis in Ukraine, by bilateral and trilateral means.

“The president has reiterated this many times,” Lavrov said.

“The key point is that these formats are not pursued for the sake of media coverage or evening broadcasts.”

He added: “Any contacts involving national leaders must be prepared with the utmost thoroughness”.

In an interview with NBC regarding Trump’s comment, Macron said: “I think, at the end of the day, if we have a deal this is a greatness.

“Your president is very confident about the capacity he has to get this deal done and can break this daily killings which are the responsibility of the Russian aggressors, so I think it is great news.”

“It was clear that the head of the United States and his team, firstly, sincerely want to achieve a result that will be long-term, sustainable, reliable,” Lavrov said on the Rossiya 24 state television channel.

Lavrov said: “the Europeans had… insisted at every turn only on a cease-fire, and that after that they would continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.”

Recapping the whole story, Zelensky commended Melanie Trump on raising awareness for Ukrainian Children abducted by Russia.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his gratitude to the U. S. first lady Melania Trump for paying “attention to one of the most painful and difficult issues of this war – the abduction of Ukrainian children by Russia.

He continued: “We deeply appreciate her compassion and her letter to Putin. This issue lies at the heart of the war’s humanitarian tragedy – our children, broken families, the pain of separation.

“At least 20,000 children were taken. I asked President Trump to pass along a letter of gratitude from Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, to Melania. Her voice matters, and her care gives strength to this cause.

“We are working tirelessly to bring every child home. The same applies for our prisoners of war and civilians held in Russia for years, some since 2014, in very bad conditions.

“Thousands of people still need to be freed – and this is a part of making peace. We will work to negotiate all-for-all prisoners of war exchange, and we are grateful to have strong friends who help.”

While antagonists have, severally, drawn attention to the first lady’s obvious silence in her role, she has been known to influence president Trump’s policy shift on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Quoting the president: “I go home, I tell the first lady: ‘I spoke with Vladimir today. We had a wonderful conversation.’”

“She said: ‘Oh really? Another city was just hit.'”

“Today, we continue coordination at the level of leaders. There will be discussions, and we are preparing the relevant formats.

“We will also continue working tomorrow. National security advisors are also in constant contact now.

“There will be security guarantees. I thank all our partners for their determination and support. Ukraine feels this strength.
