The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and curbing the circulation of substandard drugs.
This follows the seizure of counterfeit medicines worth over N200 million in the state.
The seizure was carried out during a raid by the Kano State Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Places on Sunday.
The development was revealed in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday,by the Director, Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Balarabe Abdullahi-Kiru.
According to the statement, the drugs confiscated during the operation lacked approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

It added that the operation was jointly conducted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The statement noted that the raid was led by the committee’s Chairman, Maj. Adamu Abubakar-Usman (Rtd), following intelligence reports and the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure only safe, approved medicines were sold to the public.
Speaking during the operation, Abubakar-Usman disclosed that the fake drugs were found in an abandoned building where they were stored under extreme heat and unhygienic conditions.
“These drugs lacked NAFDAC certification and therefore pose a serious danger to public health, especially to women and children” he said

“Storing drugs under excessive heat and poor sanitary conditions can compromise their efficacy and cause serious harm to consumers, particularly when they are not approved by the relevant authorities,” he added.
He said the committee would continue to collaborate with security and health agencies to combat the trafficking of fake drugs and ensure that offenders are prosecuted.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy and Special Development, Dr Danyaro Ali-Yakasai, urged the public to verify the authenticity of medicines before purchase and to report suspected sellers of fake or substandard drugs.
He reiterated the state government’s resolve not to tolerate activities capable of endangering citizens’ lives.

The Assistant Commander of Narcotics, NDLEA Kano Command, Ya’u Malam-Yakubu,
said the confiscated items included 55 cartons of Super Sexy, 144 cartons of Bold Brown/Body Bliss, 70 cartons of Lion King/Hygra, and three sacks of empty packs.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has raided various drug dens, arrested no fewer than 52 suspects, and seized assorted illicit substances within two days in Kano.
“The Public Relations Officer of the strategic command, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday.
The NDLEA Kano State Strategic Command launches ‘Operation Sharar Mafaka’; raids multiple drug dens, arrests 52 suspects, and seizes assorted illicit substances in two days,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the command, under the leadership of CN D.Y. Lawal, has launched “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” a sustained campaign to dislodge and occupy notorious drug joints across the Kano metropolis.

It added that the operation, which began on April 27, 2026, targeted more than 20 known drug locations and resulted in significant arrests and seizures over the course of two days.
“At the launch on April 27, operatives raided the infamous Filin Idi drug dens, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, arresting 15 suspects and seizing quantities of illicit substances and paraphernalia” it said
Acting on the operation’s momentum, officers conducted further raids on the morning of April 28 at Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat, arresting an additional 16 suspects, including three female suspects, and recovering assorted illicit drugs and locally made weapons.
“On the evening of April 28, additional operations in Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari yielded 21 more arrests, including one female suspect, and the seizure of various illicit substances and evidentiary items,” the statement said.

It said that, in total, 52 suspects were arrested during the raids, including four females, and assorted drugs and paraphernalia were recovered and secured.
Speaking on the operation, CN D.Y. Lawal described the strategy as “dislodge and occupy”: “We will dislodge criminal joints, arrest suspects, seize exhibits, and occupy premises until normalcy is restored.”
He said the operation will continue under “Operation Sharar Mafaka” and called on the general public to join the command in the fight until all the streets in Kano are safe.
The Operation Sharar Mafaka is part of the Kano Command’s sustained effort to dismantle drug distribution points and restore safety to communities.

The NDLEA Kano Strategic Command has earlier reiterated its commitment to ongoing enforcement, community engagement, and partnership with citizens to eliminate illicit drug activity.

A governorship candidate under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party Muhammad Bello Dalha, has outlined an ambitious social and economic recovery agenda for Kano State, with strong emphasis on youth empowerment, grassroots security, civil service welfare and the fight against drug abuse and street violence.
Dalha, while submitting his governorship nomination form in Abuja on Tuesday, said the worsening menace of illicit drug consumption and “fadan daba” had become a dangerous social crisis threatening the future of many young people and the stability of communities across the state.
According to him, the situation requires collective action involving families, traditional institutions, religious leaders and security agencies.
“As a society, we must also confront the growing problem of illicit drug abuse and fadan daba. These challenges are destroying lives, families, and communities” he said
We will work together with parents, religious scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to provide guidance, rehabilitation, awareness, and meaningful opportunities for our young people,” he added
