Club World Cup Final: Chelsea stun PSG 3-0 as Trump joins the blues in lifting trophy

2025 Edition of FIFA Club World Cup came to an end yesterday as Chelsea stunned the world of football by recording historic 3-o victory over the reigning UEFA Champions League winners in the final of the competition.

Chelsea winger Cole Palmer inspired the Blues to the historic win over Paris Saint-Germain in an eye-catching performance with two goals within eight minutes in first-half.

The French champions had been tipped by bookmakers and lovers of football worldwide to emerge victorious following their impressive form since the turn of the year into the final of the Club World Cup.

PSG, in the semi-finals, thrashed Real Madrid 4-o going into the final, but Chelsea appeared too-big capsules for the Parisians to swallow following the Blues’ 3 clinical first-half goals courtesy Cola Palmer and Joao Pedro.

Chelsea, after winning the UEFA Conference League, claimed the title of world champions after defeating PSG in the final.

Palmer, who scored a brace and provided one assist, netting his first on the night from Gusto’s cut-back with a superb, low finish and completing a brace with quasi-first-goal finish just eight minutes later.

He then teed up with the new signing Joao Pedro, who added to his two-goal outing against Fluminense with a calm finish over PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, with Paris Saint-Germain having Joao Nevez red-carded after being adjudged to pulling Marc Cucurella hair later on, appeared stunned by the final loss.

Before the incumbent United States President Donald Trump, Chelsea triumphed and took about £100m in prize money to bank in what staged to be the first edition of the tournament in its reformed structure: thirty-two-team structure.

It was a strong belief among PSG team and fan base before the game that they would complete their quadruple, just more than a month after lifting the UEFA Champions League by thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, but failed to cope with Chelsea’s game plan orchestrated by their head coach Enzo Maresca, targeted at the PSG’s left side.

Club World Cup Final: Chelsea Stun PSG 3-0

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer and the Blues’ captain Reece James aired their views on the US President Donald Trump crashing the Chelsea team for the Club World Cup trophy lift.

In an eyebrow-raising match encompassing glitzy pre-match build-up, a fighter jet flown past the stadium and an unusual and lengthier half-time break of 24 minutes, going against IFAB regulations, Chelsea looked more energetic and more threatening in from the beginning of the game.

After first-half filled with Chelsea’s three goals, they looked more sharper and threatening and could have stretched their lead after PSG goalkeeper Donnarumma was forced to make 2 good saves from substitute Liam Delap in the second-half.

On the other hand, it was also a night to commemorate for Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who also made some fine saves to ensure victory for the English side.

PSG’s frustration heats up, first with Nevez seeing red card, which was given after the referee approached the monitor, and then when a fracas broke-out within the players after blaring of the final whistle.

Immediately the fracas doused, though, there came the time for Chelsea players, fans and manager to celebrate their success to a historic season.

We Played To Prove Doubters Wrong ─ Palmer

During the post-match conference, Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer said that the victory was meant to silence their critics and doubters going into the final match.

“Obviously it’s a great feeling,” he said on DAZN. “Even better because obviously everyone doubted us before the game.

“But to go out there and put a fight on like we did against a great team, it’s good.

“I like finals and it happened again,” he said of his goal, a year, almost to the day, after scoring in the Euro 2024 final.

“The gaffer put a great game plan out. He knew where the space was going to be. I just had to repay him and score some goals.

“He’s building something special. Something important. I feel like we are going in the right direction.”

The Game Was Already Won in The First Ten Minutes ─ Maresca

During the post-match chat, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca stated that the Blues had already won their match in the first ten minutes, despite open knowledge that their first goal did not come until 22nd minute, and commended his players on their convincing performance as he envisaged a holiday.

“No words for the players,” he said on DAZN.

“They deserve it. It’s a good moment.

“For me we won the game in the first ten minutes. In the first ten minutes we set the tempo for the way we want to play. We were very good.

“Unfortunately with the weather conditions it is not easy to do for 90 minutes, but I think we won the game in the first ten minutes.”

On Palmer named the player of the match, he said: “Today we found a position for him where there was space to attack.

“I’m happy for Cole but the effort from all the players has been fantastic.”

“Our future is very exciting, but I’m more excited for three weeks off!”

Chelsea’s victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final still shocks the football world as many still struggle to understand the mojo behind that, considering PSG’s fine performances before the final.

Considering Chelsea’s stunning of PSG in the final will definitely boost the Blues’ confidence level as they look to go m holiday, in a bid to prepare to start of next season.
