• Tinubu Urges Plateau State Governor to Include Hausa/Fulani in his Cabinet, and also Recognize Them as Indigenes

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on political leaders in Plateau State to embrace inclusive governance by appointing members of the Hausa/Fulani community to key positions in the state government and recognizing them as indigenes of the state.

The President made the remarks during a high-level dialogue meeting with political, traditional, and religious leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Addressing participants at the meeting, Tinubu stressed that sustainable peace and development in Plateau State require fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all communities.

  • Goldman Sachs Lowers 2027 Brent Oil Price Forecast Over Supply Growth, Demand Risks

Goldman Sachs has reduced its forecast for Brent crude oil prices in 2027, citing expectations of increased global oil supply and growing concerns over weaker demand.

The investment bank said rising production from major oil-producing countries, coupled with uncertainties surrounding global economic growth, could place downward pressure on oil prices in the coming years.

Analysts noted that slower economic activity in key markets and the increasing adoption of alternative energy sources may affect long-term demand for crude oil.

The revised outlook comes as energy markets continue to monitor geopolitical developments, production policies by major exporters, and changing consumption patterns worldwide.

Adenike Olawuyi : The Rise Few Noticed

Building Greatness Without the Spotlight

Adenike Olawuyi : The Rise Few Noticed begins not with noise or overnight fame, but with quiet discipline, steady growth, and a commitment to excellence that has gradually placed her among Nigeria’s most promising basketball talents.

In an era where sports careers are often defined by viral moments and instant recognition, Olawuyi’s journey stands out for its patience and authenticity.

Her rise has been subtle, almost unnoticed by casual observers, yet deeply respected within basketball circles that understand the value of long term development over fleeting hype.

Born on February 8, 2004, in Osogbo, Osun State, Adenike Olawuyi represents a new generation of Nigerian female athletes who are redefining success through consistency and purpose.

From a young age, she showed an uncommon physical presence and an even rarer willingness to learn.

While many young players rely solely on natural talent, Olawuyi distinguished herself early by embracing structure, coaching, and discipline as essential parts of her growth.

One lesser known fact about Adenike Olawuyi is that basketball was not initially positioned as a guaranteed career path for her.

Like many Nigerian youths, she navigated her early development within a system that offered limited infrastructure, especially for women’s basketball.

Yet, rather than seeing these limitations as barriers, she treated them as motivation. Her mindset was shaped early by the understanding that opportunity often follows preparation, not the other way around.

Another important but often overlooked aspect of her story is her adaptability.

Standing at approximately 191 centimeters, Olawuyi naturally fit the forward and center roles, but she refused to be defined solely by her height.

She invested time in footwork, positioning, and court awareness, skills that are not always emphasized in young tall players.

This commitment later allowed her to transition smoothly into more competitive environments where versatility is valued.

Her breakthrough moment came during her participation in the Olumide Oyedeji Basketball Camp, one of Nigeria’s most respected talent development platforms.

There, she earned a scholarship reportedly valued at about forty five thousand dollars and was named the Most Promising Player.

What many do not realize is that this recognition was not just a reward for performance, but for attitude.

Coaches and scouts noted her coachability, humility, and ability to absorb feedback, qualities that often separate long term professionals from short lived prospects.

Despite earning early recognition, Olawuyi avoided the trap of complacency. Instead of seeing the scholarship as a finish line, she treated it as a starting point.

This perspective became a defining feature of her career. She consistently chose environments that challenged her rather than those that offered comfort or immediate visibility.

Another little known fact is how quickly she adapted to international basketball culture. Transitioning from local Nigerian systems to structured European basketball requires more than talent.

It demands mental toughness, cultural adjustment, and tactical understanding. Olawuyi embraced this transition, eventually playing professionally in Europe with NKA Universitas PEAC Pécs in Hungary.

Her presence in European competitions such as the EuroCup Women placed her in a highly tactical and physically demanding basketball ecosystem.

Statistically, her early numbers may appear modest to casual fans, but those figures do not tell the full story.

Coaches often rely on her for defensive assignments, rebounding responsibilities, and positional discipline. These contributions rarely dominate highlight reels, yet they are fundamental to winning basketball. Her understanding of team roles reflects a maturity beyond her age.

Perhaps one of the most significant yet underappreciated milestones in her career is her inclusion in Nigeria’s senior women’s national basketball team, D’Tigress.

Earning a place in a squad that has dominated African basketball is no small achievement. Olawuyi was part of the team that won the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, securing Nigeria’s fourth consecutive title.

Being trusted at such a young age in a championship winning team speaks volumes about her reliability and character.

Another fact that often escapes attention is her willingness to learn from veterans. Rather than competing for attention, Olawuyi observes, listens, and applies lessons from more experienced teammates.

This approach has accelerated her growth and earned her respect within the national setup.

Beyond competitive basketball, Adenike Olawuyi has demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility toward community development.

She has organized basketball clinics for young people in Osun State, creating access to training and inspiration for children who may never have imagined a future in the sport.

This initiative highlights a deeper understanding of her role as more than just an athlete. She sees basketball as a tool for empowerment and social impact.

Another lesser discussed aspect of her personality is her quiet leadership. She does not lead through loud speeches or dramatic gestures, but through consistency, punctuality, and work ethic.

Younger players often look up to her not because of celebrity, but because of example.

Olawuyi’s playing style reflects balance rather than excess. She understands when to assert herself offensively and when to prioritize team structure.

This discipline has made her a dependable option for coaches at both club and national levels. An interesting fact about her development is how she values education and personal growth alongside sports.

While many athletes struggle to balance life off the court, Olawuyi has consistently emphasized personal development, understanding that a basketball career, no matter how successful, must be supported by character and planning.

Her journey also challenges common narratives about female sports development in Nigeria.

Despite systemic challenges, her success illustrates what is possible when talent meets opportunity and discipline. She is not presented as a miracle story, but as proof of what sustained investment can achieve.

Another important point is her patience with progress. She has not rushed her career or chased attention. Instead, she has allowed growth to happen naturally, trusting that consistency will eventually lead to recognition.

Within professional circles, she is known for her defensive awareness, positioning, and ability to read the game. These attributes, though less glamorous, are often what extend careers at elite levels.

As Nigerian women’s basketball continues to gain international respect, players like Adenike Olawuyi represent its future. Not because they are the loudest voices, but because they are the most prepared.

Her rise may have gone unnoticed by many, but within the game, it is clearly recognized. Each season adds another layer to her development, another chapter to a story still being written.

In the coming years, Olawuyi is expected to grow into a more prominent role both at club and national levels. Her foundation suggests longevity, not momentary success.

Ultimately, Adenike Olawuyi’s story is a reminder that greatness does not always announce itself.

Sometimes it arrives quietly, built through years of discipline, humility, and purpose.

And when it finally stands fully formed, those who were paying attention will understand that the rise was never sudden, only overlooked.
