• Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

A Tale Of Contrasting Views On Abortion presents a contrasting view of abortion with the sole purpose of adding a rich layer of understanding to the existing public perception of abortion.

This aims to uncover the shroud of cloudy grey that has long enveloped the subject matter.

I hope you will find this piece enjoyable and insightful, as intended.

Let’s get at it, folks.

Abortion is among the severe and prevalent complex issues across the world, which has multifaceted views, medically and religiously.

Despite its deportment of both importance and disadvantages, remains a controversial designated concern.

Clarifications
Abortion is the termination of pregnancy so that it does not result in the birth of babies, which can be done in numerous ways, including surgical abortion or through the use of drugs.

Additionally, according to some sources, there’s also advancement in the system, which brought about unorthodox medical practitioners to introduce the use of herbal mixtures in terminating pregnancies.

A medical abortion is a non-surgical way to terminate a pregnancy in the first trimester, and if it is beyond this period, the procedure is likely to be more of a risk.

A medical abortion ends an early pregnancy by using a combination of medicines. It’s a safe procedure that works by stopping the growth of the pregnancy and then causing the uterine lining to be discarded.

Controversies Regarding Abortion
Despite the copious applications surrounding the case of abortion, it remains a contentious issue affecting religious and social orders for guaranteeing immoralities to unmarried persons by encouraging the practice of premarital sex to deliberately abort the babies after being pregnant.

This climaxes the clear concise as regards the effect of abortion on youths and other grown-up personalities, which auxiliary puncture beliefs.

Nevertheless, abortion may have its disadvantages regarding the process of aborting babies above the first three months.

This hangs about a central part of unease around the globe, with many prescribing it as an act of killing.

The assertion as regards aborting babies of above three months remains a foremost restlessness all over the world. The view is that babies of above three months fittingly develop in their mother’s womb and then should not be dispossessed of the right to life as enacted by fundamental human rights.

Abortion As A Human Right And Proper Human Concern
Abortion, as a matter of life and death, should be free and accessible around the world with substantial enshrine of regulations to wipe away crooked and illegal practices within the system.

Abortion as a product of healthcare should be enhanced as multiple reasons perambulate the system. Therefore, the interest behind it should be sustained by providing the cost within everyone’s reach.

Toward Restriction
Abortion restrictions do not prevent frequent occurrences. Global research exposed that when abortion is banned or restricted, the act doesn’t lessen.

Abortions shift hidden. This increases the risk of unsafe alternatives, and law enforcement will prosecute people for alleged abortions.

Despite the massive unpleasant history of unsustainable practice that examined plentiful unsafe records, it should not be entirely denied.

Hence, it should be substituted with appropriate conduct on how to do it, just like what the WHO sensitively suggested.

Several nations banned abortion as a matter of healthcare around with excessive configuration to broadly restrict the act.

For virtually two decades, Human Rights Watch has acknowledged the human rights impairment of restricted or banned admittance to abortion in many countries around the world, including the United States of America, Argentina, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Egypt, Ireland, etc.

Although it is significant, it was still nurtured to be disparaging. The destructions caused by abortion are hard to embellish.

It destroys children, and since it’s hazardous to eliminate children, it can tear down their mothers as well. Red Cross, in research, articulated that women who have had abortions go through decades of melancholy and anxiety that asphyxiate joy.

Entirety Banned On Abortion
Human Rights Watch accepted that reproductive rights are human rights, including the right to access abortion. States have the compulsion to offer women access to safe and legal abortion as part of their core human rights tasks.

Women across the world are experiencing difficulties, going through a series of different hardships and hindrances that curtail them from accessing abortion despite being safe, and this has resulted in multiple implications.

Restrictive abortion conventions push pregnant people seeking abortions, especially those living in poverty or rural settlements, out of the healthcare system and into treacherous, unfettered systems.

WHO has also affirmed that lack of access to secured, reasonable, and well-timed abortion care causes threats to the intended persons throughout their lives.

Causes Of Medical Abortion
Having a medical abortion is vastly a personal verdict based on the circumstances.

Someone may prefer to have a medical abortion because they’re concerned about passing through a challenging economic situation (which wouldn’t allow them to take care of the baby effectively) or even hereditary diseases based on personal adjudications.

Health Benefits And Reasons For Abortion
A medical abortion may also be a preference if carrying the pregnancy could be life-threatening.

Everyone’s situation is unique.

Reaching out to a healthcare provider who understands medical conditions and healthcare needs can help you weigh your options.

Precautions: When Can Someone Get A Medical Abortion?
It is medically recommended that abortion should be conceded at an early stage.

It was recorded that most victorious abortions are carried out at an early stage. For example, over half of all abortions conducted across the world were medical abortions.

This means that most people who choose to terminate a pregnancy do so in the early stage.

What Are The Effects Of Abortion
Vaginal bleeding and cramping are the principal side effects.

While the heaviest bleeding typically occurs for several hours, it may cause period-like bleeding for several days afterward.

What Are The Risks Of A Medical Abortion?
Medical abortions are measured as safe and effective.

Complications are sporadic, but it is nuts and bolts to take all medications as prescribed because skipping the recommendation can pose health issues.

How Long Does It Take To Recover From Abortion?
How long does it take to recuperate from a medical abortion fully?
Recovery times diverge. One may resume usual activities within a day or two, but recovery isn’t always just physical.

You may experience various emotions, from relief to sadness, stress, or guilt. These feelings are normal, but it may be helpful to consult a health professional, like a therapist, about your feelings.

When To Have Sex After Abortion?
It is prudent to wait at least two to three weeks to delve into intercourse following a medical abortion. This is to prevent vaginal infections.

When To Get Pregnant Again After An Abortion?
According to UNICEF,  “after abortion, one can get pregnant again within two weeks after the abortion.” However, it is medically best to space the duration for up to a month.

In conclusion,  abortion could be a life-saving mechanism. It should be accurately betrothed, following appropriate channels to be set in place.

If it is precisely worked out, it will no longer be a thing of disquiet across the world despite the people and their views, religiously and socially.
