A Society In Disarray : The Home Is Attacking The Street x-rays and bring to light the direct impact of home on the wider society. When the home unit is in order, the society greatly benefits.

Our Society is in disarray because the home is attacking the street, and we are all struggling to grapple with its consequences. 

Psalm 11 verse 3 says that “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”.

For a couple of months now, the world at large has not remained the same due to the coronavirus. No one knows how long the pandemic will last and what effect it will eventually have on the globe. 

However, we have seen the worst and the fear is gradually disappearing.

The emergence of coronavirus vaccines also makes things better.

Thanks to the genius of pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, among others, as well as Educational Institutions such as Oxford University and countless other networks of global laboratories. 

Governments of various states and countries have been issuing guidelines that will help guarantee the safety of residents and contain the spread of the virus as we are gradually easing out of the lockdown.

One thing is certain, COVID-19 may never go away, noting that controlling the virus will require great effort, even now that the vaccines are being rolled out globally. 

According to the World Health Organization, WHO, “Like HIV, COVID-19 may never go away”. That’s another story for another time. I’m sure the menace unleashed on some localities in Nigeria during the COVID-19 lockdown, particularly in Nigeria is still lingering and a lot of people have blamed the government for this. In as much that you are right. I will disagree, lightly with some cogent reasons. 

Basic education is not the problem, poor role modelling is it. They hope to rise in gangsterism and then hit the jackpot with NURTW or any other conduit of illegal funds. What befell us didn’t just start today?

 Many parents are criminals and they are the architects of some of the junks in our society. Can bad leadership make you kill your fellow human? Can bad leadership make you rape the opposite sex right in front of her family?

I reside in a neighbourhood where some of these ‘boys of the underworld’ operate, and  I can attest to the fact that the biggest problems are their homes and parents.

They all come from homes where their parents can’t control them.

They come from homes where these young lads have two to three young girls pregnant for them and their parents are happy to be grandparents. 

They come from homes where their parents go with them to their bosses to fight for them if they lambast them at work. They come from homes where their parents are also into one illicit business or the other. 

They come from homes where they are the breadwinners even at their tender age. I know of a 17 years old boy who lives in our neighbourhood. He is a son of a late, and well-known bootlegger on my parents’ street. He was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) team some months back after matching a fellow at a pub in the company of his gang. His brother is one of the best DJs in Cairo. 

According to an eyewitness, his mother is a fruit seller on the island. Tell me where the government has failed these. These guys are the product of bad homes.

Their immediate community also allows them to grow wings among us by protecting them based on man-know-man. 

Now, we have murdered sleep. We can’t sleep even with an eye.

Our family system is cracked and until we fix it, society will suffer grave consequences. Our celebrities can’t also be vindicated.

They have suddenly turned to our children’s role models. Now different cult groups are named after their movements; like Marlian, Baddoo, Hawawa, One Million Boys, Tagba-mole, Jagba, Gbemora, Shaolin Temple, and many more others.

When most of us play the blame game on the government I laugh. I will advise that we all digest an extract from the book titled “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves”. 

Ali Baba asked Usman, “IF WE ALL, ON THE SAHARA TURNED TO THIEVES, WHO DO WE ROB?” If thieves blame the system and some people support them, why can’t we all be thieves or are the robbers from space? 

It’s very sad when you see parents struggle through thick and thin to send their children to school only for the children to read and suffer and pass through primary, secondary and tertiary Institutions, get a job, only to be robbed regularly by some miscreants. I can’t continue to write now because I am embittered…
