• Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo Alleges Boko Haram Infiltrated Nigerian Military, Links Claim to U.S. Troop Withdrawal

JOS, Nigeria — The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo, has alleged that members of the Boko Haram insurgent group have occupied strategic positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The cleric made the remarks in a video circulated on his social media page, where he discussed the security situation in Nigeria and the recurring violence in parts of the country.

According to Rev. Dachamo, the alleged infiltration of the military was the reason United States military personnel were withdrawn from Nigeria after, he claimed, they received security reports from troops deployed to assess the security situation.

He further alleged that the U.S. personnel had been sent in connection with concerns over what he described as the killing of Christian communities in parts of the country.

Rev. Dachamo did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims during the video.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the United States Government had not publicly confirmed Rev. Dachamo

Nigel Farage’s resignation as MP for Clacton has turned a parliamentary standards controversy into a wider test of political money, democratic accountability and migration politics. With major parties refusing to contest the by-election, the episode raises urgent questions about whether electoral theatre can be used to weaken parliamentary scrutiny — and what that means for African diasporas in Britain, Ireland and at home....

  • Teaching Al-Musannaf Requires Rare Scholarly Expertise Beyond the Reach of Many Nigerian Scholars

Renowned Islamic scholar and founder of Darul Hadith Salafiyya, Zaria, Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam (Albani Zaria), has stated that teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires an exceptional level of scholarly competence that, according to him, many Nigerian Islamic scholars do not possess.

The late cleric made the remarks during one of his Sahih al-Bukhari lectures in 2013, while discussing contemporary religious issues and the qualifications required to teach classical Islamic texts.

According to Sheikh Albani, Al-Musannaf is among the most comprehensive works in Islamic scholarship and demands mastery of several disciplines before a scholar can competently teach its contents.

"Teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires rare scholarly expertise beyond what many Nigerian scholars possess," he said.

He explained that a scholar seeking to teach the book must possess extensive knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Hadith sciences (Mustalah al-Hadith), Islamic history (Tarikh), principles of narration, and other related Islamic sciences.

Albani argued that beyond academic qualifications, teaching the text requires years of specialization, extensive research, and a deep understanding of the differences among classical scholars and schools of thought.

According to him, many scholars lack the time, specialization, and depth of knowledge necessary to undertake such a demanding scholarly responsibility.

The respected scholar maintained that teaching advanced Islamic texts without the required expertise could lead to misunderstanding, inaccurate interpretations, and confusion among students of knowledge.

The Quiet Departure of Alex Ekubo a Vibrant Nollywood Star Passes Away at 40 After a Private Battle with Kidney Cancer

abuja —

The vibrant energy of Nigeria’s entertainment capital, Lagos, was met with a heavy, collective sigh of disbelief on the morning of May 12, 2026. The news, initially whispered in tight-knit circles before surging through digital platforms like a tidal wave, confirmed a reality that many were not ready to accept: Alexx Ekubo, the charismatic “Johnny” of African cinema, had passed away at the age of 40.

For months, fans and industry watchers had noted a conspicuous silence from the actor. Known for his wit, impeccable style, and high-spirited social media presence, Ekubo’s retreat into privacy had sparked quiet concern. We now know that during this time, the man who brought so much laughter and charm to our screens was fighting a battle far more grueling than any scripted drama. His family eventually confirmed that he succumbed to complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer at Evercare Hospital, bringing an end to a journey he bore with what they described as “remarkable strength and unwavering faith.”

The Rise of a Versatile Icon
Alexx Ekubo’s journey to the pinnacle of Nollywood was not a product of chance, but a masterclass in persistence and versatility. While many recall his breakout as the first runner-up in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest, it was his transition into acting that proved his true mettle. He didn’t just want to be a face; he wanted to be a storyteller.

He quickly became a household name, synonymous with the “Lover Boy” archetype that defined the early 2010s. Yet, Ekubo was never one to be pigeonholed. In 2012, his role in In the Cupboard earned him the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award, a pivotal moment that validated his talent beyond his aesthetic appeal. From there, he became a staple in blockbusters like Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, and the record-breaking Omo Ghetto: The Saga.

The Quiet Departure Of Alex Ekubo

One cannot discuss Ekubo’s cultural impact without mentioning his role in Yemi Alade’s “Johnny” music video. As the titular character, he became a cross-continental symbol of the charming rogue, a role that endeared him to audiences across the diaspora and solidified his status as a pan-African celebrity.

The Private Battle
The revelation that Alexx had been battling cancer since early 2025 has cast a new light on his final year. In an era where every aspect of a celebrity’s life is often broadcasted in real-time, his choice to face his illness in private was a testament to his character. He chose to spend his final months surrounded by the people who knew him best Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke rather than the public persona the world adored.

Colleagues have since shared heartbreaking anecdotes of their attempts to reach out. Funke Akindele, a long-time friend and collaborator, expressed the pain of many when she shared that she had tried to see him “one more time,” but noted that “he knew best.” The news that he had reportedly prepared his Will months in advance suggests a man who was deeply aware of his mortality and sought to leave his affairs in order, protecting the family he so dearly loved.

The Quiet Departure Of Alex Ekubo

A Hole in the Fabric of Nollywood
Nollywood is an industry built on community, and the loss of Alexx Ekubo feels like the removal of a vital thread. He was more than an actor; he was a bridge between generations. He respected the veterans who paved the way and mentored the “newbies” coming up behind him. His presence at industry events was often the highlight of the evening, his humor serving as a catalyst for joy in even the most formal settings.

His passing marks a somber milestone for the industry in 2026. Coming on the heels of other losses earlier this year, it serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life, even for those who seem larger than it. The tributes pouring in from across the globe from fellow actors in the UK to fans in the United States and the Caribbean highlight a reach that went far beyond the borders of Nigeria.

Reflections on a Life Well Lived
At 40, Alexx Ekubo had already achieved what many would take multiple lifetimes to accomplish. He was recognized as one of the “Most Influential People of African Descent” under 40 and held an honorary doctorate degree. He was a humanitarian, a fashion icon, and a man of faith.

The Quiet Departure Of Alex Ekubo

Perhaps the most poignant moment of this week was the resurfacing of a post he made in 2011, where he wrote, “I hope to see a day when Cancer would be just a Zodiac Sign.” To know that he spent his final days battling the very thing he once wished out of existence is a irony that is difficult to digest. Yet, it also serves as a call to action. His family’s transparency regarding his cause of death has already sparked vital conversations across Nigeria about men’s health and the importance of early detection for kidney-related ailments.

Final Act
As the industry prepares to say its final goodbyes, the legacy of Alexx Ekubo remains firmly intact. His filmography, much of which is preserved on platforms like Netflix and Prime Video, will continue to introduce him to new audiences for years to come. We will remember him for the twinkle in his eye, his impeccable comic timing, and the quiet dignity with which he took his final bow.

The Quiet Departure Of Alex Ekubo

In his family’s official statement, they asked for privacy and prayers, but they also shared a sentiment that should be the takeaway for every fan: he believed that one day his testimony would be shared with the world. While he is no longer here to tell it himself, the outpouring of love and the impact of his 40 years on this earth are a testimony in themselves.

Rest well, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke. The lights of the stage may have dimmed, but your star remains fixed in the firmament of African cinema.
