ABUJA —

The biggest football tournament on earth is just around the corner, and the musical excitement has officially started. Global pop superstar Shakira and Nigerian Grammy-winning Afrobeats icon Burna Boy have joined forces to release a massive track titled “Dai Dai.” The song is the official anthem for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Released through Sony Music Latin, the track is already available on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. Fans all over the world are already moving to the rhythm, sending social media platforms into an absolute frenzy.

Football and music have a unique way of bringing people together, and this new track does exactly that. By blending heavy Latin rhythms with the infectious elements of modern Afrobeats, “Dai Dai” creates a massive stadium-scale energy. The song is designed to appeal to people from different cultures and backgrounds, making it a truly international pop track. With its motivational lyrics centered on resilience, unity, and ambition, the song promises to capture the hearts of sports lovers and music enthusiasts alike.

The Magic Behind the Collaboration
Shakira is no stranger to the World Cup stage. For many years, she has been the undisputed queen of football anthems. Her iconic 2010 song, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was recorded for the tournament in South Africa, is widely regarded as the greatest World Cup song ever made. She followed that up with another massive hit, “La La La,” for the 2014 tournament in Brazil. Her return to the football stage with “Dai Dai” marks a major milestone, bringing her signature high-energy vocals and dance-pop style back to the global spotlight.

On the other side of the track, Burna Boy continues to prove why he is called the “African Giant.” His commanding vocals and distinct Afro-fusion style give the anthem a fresh and powerful identity. This collaboration makes Burna Boy only the second Nigerian artist ever to be featured on an official FIFA World Cup soundtrack, following Davido’s history-making appearance on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” for the 2022 tournament in Qatar

Burna Boy has expressed massive joy about the project, stating that football and music speak the same language because they unite people regardless of where they come from.

Inside the Song: A Celebration of Legends and Nations
The lyrics of “Dai Dai” are packed with exciting references that sports fans will love. In a major show of respect to the history of football, the artists shout out several legendary players who have left a massive mark on the game.

Listeners will hear references to iconic stars like Pelé, Diego Maradona, Paolo Maldini, Romário, and David Beckham. The track also celebrates modern-day football heroes like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Kaká, Kylian Mbappé, and Mohamed Salah.

Apart from honoring the players, the song also celebrates the global nature of the tournament by calling out various football-playing nations. Shakira and Burna Boy take turns chanting the names of different countries, including Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, England, Germany, France, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands. The song structure allows both artists to shine individually during their respective verses before they come together for a powerful, harmonized duet during the chorus.

Making a Difference: Entertainment with a Purpose
What makes “Dai Dai” even more special is that it is not just about entertainment; it is also about making the world a better place. The track was officially unveiled at the Global Citizen NOW event in New York as the anthem for the newly established FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This charity initiative aims to raise a whopping $100 million by the end of the tournament. The money will be used to provide children living in underserved communities across the globe with access to quality education and proper sports opportunities.

To support this noble cause, Shakira has made a massive philanthropic commitment by announcing that she will donate her personal royalties from the song directly to the fund.

Furthermore, she will donate $1 from every ticket sold during her upcoming world tour to help push the charity project forward. Sony Music has also stepped up by promising to match the first $250,000 raised through the track. This blend of sports, music, and charity shows how global stars can use their massive platforms to create real, positive change.

Massive Year for Nigerian Music on the Global Stage
The release of this song adds to a massive wave of success for African artists on the international stage. Nigerian representation at the upcoming tournament is stronger than ever. Alongside Burna Boy’s major feature on the official anthem, FIFA recently announced that fellow Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema will headline the main opening ceremony in Los Angeles.

This double win highlights the incredible growth of African music and shows how the industry continues to dominate the global entertainment space.

As if the excitement around the music was not enough, FIFA dropped another massive piece of news regarding the tournament’s final match on July 19. For the first time in World Cup history, there will be an official halftime show during the grand finale at the MetLife Stadium. Shakira is set to co-headline this historic performance alongside pop legend Madonna and K-pop global sensations BTS.

The massive concert lineup, which was curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay, will also help raise awareness and funds for the educational charity.

With the official song out, the countdown to the greatest show on earth has truly begun. “Dai Dai” has successfully set the tone for a historic tournament filled with passion, unity, and unforgettable moments. Whether you are blasting it through your headphones, listening to it in traffic, or singing along with thousands of fans inside a massive stadium, this collaboration between Shakira and Burna Boy is bound to keep the world dancing for a very long time.
