• Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo Alleges Boko Haram Infiltrated Nigerian Military, Links Claim to U.S. Troop Withdrawal

JOS, Nigeria — The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachamo, has alleged that members of the Boko Haram insurgent group have occupied strategic positions within the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The cleric made the remarks in a video circulated on his social media page, where he discussed the security situation in Nigeria and the recurring violence in parts of the country.

According to Rev. Dachamo, the alleged infiltration of the military was the reason United States military personnel were withdrawn from Nigeria after, he claimed, they received security reports from troops deployed to assess the security situation.

He further alleged that the U.S. personnel had been sent in connection with concerns over what he described as the killing of Christian communities in parts of the country.

Rev. Dachamo did not provide evidence to substantiate his claims during the video.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the United States Government had not publicly confirmed Rev. Dachamo

Nigel Farage’s resignation as MP for Clacton has turned a parliamentary standards controversy into a wider test of political money, democratic accountability and migration politics. With major parties refusing to contest the by-election, the episode raises urgent questions about whether electoral theatre can be used to weaken parliamentary scrutiny — and what that means for African diasporas in Britain, Ireland and at home....

  • Teaching Al-Musannaf Requires Rare Scholarly Expertise Beyond the Reach of Many Nigerian Scholars

Renowned Islamic scholar and founder of Darul Hadith Salafiyya, Zaria, Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam (Albani Zaria), has stated that teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires an exceptional level of scholarly competence that, according to him, many Nigerian Islamic scholars do not possess.

The late cleric made the remarks during one of his Sahih al-Bukhari lectures in 2013, while discussing contemporary religious issues and the qualifications required to teach classical Islamic texts.

According to Sheikh Albani, Al-Musannaf is among the most comprehensive works in Islamic scholarship and demands mastery of several disciplines before a scholar can competently teach its contents.

"Teaching Kitabul Al-Musannaf requires rare scholarly expertise beyond what many Nigerian scholars possess," he said.

He explained that a scholar seeking to teach the book must possess extensive knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh), Hadith sciences (Mustalah al-Hadith), Islamic history (Tarikh), principles of narration, and other related Islamic sciences.

Albani argued that beyond academic qualifications, teaching the text requires years of specialization, extensive research, and a deep understanding of the differences among classical scholars and schools of thought.

According to him, many scholars lack the time, specialization, and depth of knowledge necessary to undertake such a demanding scholarly responsibility.

The respected scholar maintained that teaching advanced Islamic texts without the required expertise could lead to misunderstanding, inaccurate interpretations, and confusion among students of knowledge.

Queen Mercy Bread Dress BBNaija Star’s Bread-themed Outfit Caught a Playful Reaction from Guiness World Records

Abuja —

Red carpet fashion has always been a major highlight of the Nigerian entertainment calendar. Every year, celebrities, influencers, and reality television stars spend millions of naira trying to outdo one another at prestigious award ceremonies.

They hire the best designers, source the most expensive fabrics from around the world, and spend hours in makeup chairs just to secure a spot on the “Best Dressed” lists. However, every now and then, an artist steps onto the red carpet not just to look beautiful, but to make a statement that completely shatters the internet.

At the recently concluded 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), that viral moment belonged entirely to Big Brother Naija alumna Queen Mercy Atang. While other celebrities opted for traditional ball gowns, glittering sequined dresses, and sleek tailored suits, Queen decided to take a path that nobody saw coming.

She showed up wearing an elaborate, avant-garde outfit constructed entirely out of real, baked bread. The fashion choice instantly stole the spotlight, triggering an avalanche of internet memes, fierce fashion debates, and even an unexpected, playful reaction from the official social media handles of Guinness World Records.

Breaking Down the Viral Design
To truly appreciate the chaos and creativity of the moment, one must understand what the outfit actually looked like. Designed by a daring and highly imaginative Nigerian fashion house, the dress was a structural masterpiece of carbohydrate engineering. The bodice of the gown was tightly woven together using rows of golden-brown dinner rolls and artisan bread twists. From the waist down, the dress cascaded into a massive, wide-hooped skirt completely covered in neatly arranged baguettes and sliced loaves.

To complete the look, Queen carried a matching handbag that resembled a hollowed-out loaf of sourdough, and her headpiece was a creative crown made of miniature bread sticks. When she stepped onto the red carpet, the reaction from the crowd was a mixture of absolute shock, audible gasps, and immediate laughter. Photographers swarmed around her, capturing angles of the outfit that would dominate the internet for the next several weeks. It was a bold, fearless display of avant-garde fashion that refused to be ignored.

The Internet Explodes: The Birth of the Memes
In the digital age, the true measure of a red carpet outfit’s impact is not just found in the applause of the crowd, but in the volume of memes it generates on social media. Within seconds of Queen’s arrival at the venue, pictures of her bread-themed dress flooded platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok. The Nigerian internet community, famous for its sharp wit and relentless humor, immediately went to work creating hilarious content around the look.

Food vendors and bakeries across Lagos and Abuja quickly jumped on the trend, using photos of Queen’s dress to advertise their daily breakfast promos. One viral meme showed a picture of the reality star alongside a giant cup of hot tea and a plate of fried eggs, with the caption: “When the dress code says ‘Formal,’ but your heart belongs to Saturday morning breakfast.” Other users made playful jokes about the security risks of wearing food in public, teasing that the reality star had to be careful not to walk past stray birds or hungry fans during the after-party.

The phrase “Agege Couture”—a playful nod to Agege bread, a popular, soft local bread loved by millions of Nigerians—instantly started trending nationwide. Rather than being insulted by the jokes, Queen Mercy Atang embraced the humor completely. She reposted several of the funniest memes on her personal Instagram stories, proving to her followers that she was fully in on the joke and completely secure in her artistic fashion choice.

A Playful Nod from Guinness World Records
Just when everyone thought the conversation around the dress had reached its peak, the drama took a fascinating and highly prestigious turn. The official social media handle of Guinness World Records (GWR) stumbled upon one of the viral videos of the dress on X. Known for their engaging and witty interactions with global internet trends, the GWR social media team left a playful comment under the post that sent fans into an absolute frenzy.

The official account jokingly asked if anyone had checked the official records to see if Queen’s outfit qualified for the title of the “Largest Wearable Assortment of Baked Goods.” The comment instantly gathered tens of thousands of likes and retweets. Fans of the reality star began tagging the organization aggressively, jokingly demanding an official certificate for what they called a groundbreaking achievement in fashion history.

While the interaction was entirely lighthearted and not an official record-breaking attempt, it elevated the dress from a local Nigerian trending topic to a piece of global pop culture trivia. It highlighted the massive reach of Nollywood and reality TV culture, proving that Nigerian entertainment moments have the unique power to capture the attention of major global institutions.

Avant-Garde vs. Practicality: The Fashion Debate
Beyond the endless memes and jokes, Queen’s outfit sparked a very serious and highly analytical debate within the West African fashion industry. Many traditional fashion critics heavily criticized the look, arguing that the AMVCA red carpet is an elegant, formal event meant to celebrate excellence in filmmaking, not a venue for costume parties or viral stunts. Critics claimed that the dress lacked elegance and was a desperate attempt to trend online at the expense of high fashion standards.

However, a growing school of thought among younger Nigerian designers fiercely defended the reality star’s choice. They argued that fashion is fundamentally a form of self-expression and performance art. In international fashion hubs like Paris, Milan, and New York, avant-garde designs involving unconventional materials including paper, meat, and plastic are regularly celebrated on elite runways and at events like the Met Gala.

Supporters pointed out that by choosing a bread-themed dress, Queen successfully shifted the entire conversation of the night toward her. In an industry where hundreds of celebrities wear similar-looking sparkly gowns every single year, her decision to do something completely bizarre ensured that her name would be remembered long after the awards night ended. It was a masterclass in personal branding and attention economy.

The Legacy of the Bread Dress
As the weeks pass, the immediate shock of the outfit has transformed into a lasting legacy of entertainment value. Queen Mercy Atang’s bread dress has set a new benchmark for what it means to truly disrupt a red carpet in Nigeria. It proved that sometimes, looking conventionally beautiful is not the ultimate goal of public styling; sometimes, the goal is to spark joy, trigger conversations, and create a cultural moment that brings people together through laughter.

The viral moment will undoubtedly influence future red carpets across Africa. Designers are now realizing that the public has a massive appetite for the unconventional, the daring, and the theatrical. Whether you viewed the dress as an artistic masterpiece, a brilliant marketing stunt, or a hilarious waste of good bakery products, one thing remains absolutely undeniable: Queen Mercy Atang took a simple daily staple, turned it into high fashion, and gave the entire world a moment they will never forget.
