Postecoglou leads Nottingham Forest as former Spurs’ coach returns to EPL
Following his unjust dismissal by Tottenham Hotspur Chairman, Daniel Levi, in June, Postecoglou has now named Forest’s new coach.
Postecoglou, who has always been proud of his second-year achievement, will now take the steer at the club from their next match against Arsenal after the International break.
After the sacking of the ex-Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo a few days ago, the former Tottenham boss became the leading candidate considered to succeed him.
Forest’s Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis is a long-time admirer of the former Celtic and Spurs coach, who has a root in from Greece.

Two months ago, in July, Marinakis recognised Postecoglou with a special award in Greece for having been the first football coach of Greek origin to win a UEFA medal in the men’s competition.
“Ange has spoken many times about Greece,” said Marinakis.
“It is very important for a person to be proud and shout about his origins.
“He achieved it with a team that was not winning titles and was struggling. With this success with Tottenham, he made Greece proud.
“He is a very good coach and wherever he goes, he will make Greece proud.”
Two days ago, Nuno Espirito Santos was sacked by Nottingham Forest following a internal rift with unnamed members of the club, which paved way for the Aussie to find his way back into management.
Postecoglou was out of work since being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in June, just sixteen days after winning the North London club their first European trophy─Europa League─against league rivals, Manchester United in Bilbao.
The 60-year-old Aussie spent two seasons at Tottenham and brought the club’s long wait for major trophy to an end, but could only manage end the season finishing 17th.
Nuno was axed from his position on Monday night after his public fallout with the club owner, Miranakis, this summer.

The 51-year-old manager was just offered a new contract in June after he guided the club into the Europa League─their first-ever European qualification since 1995, but intra-club face-off and cracks started to show behind the camera.
After the appointment of the club’s global head of football Edu Gaspar, Nuno developed a poor working relationship him and his relationship with Marinakis suffered as a result.

Edu is an Arsenal legend and former Sporting Director who was relieved of his duty in November, 2024, at the Emirates Stadium following a shielded rift with current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Some pundits are now reporting that rift between Arteta and Edu was birthed when the Arsenal coach sensed the Edu’s move to instigate his dismissal of him, and this led to Edu’s eventual axe from the Gunners’ sporting director role.
According to former Nottingham Forest coach, who reacted to own dismissal, questioned the club’s model and transfer deals ahead of the new season and then pre-empted his own sacking by saying “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” when questioned about his future at the club.
It was widely understood that Nuno had prepared for peace talks with Marinakis during the ongoing international break, but the Greek businessman could no longer hesitate to pull the plug on his relationship with the manager.
According to a statement released by Nottingham Forest: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.
“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”
Cracks in the Nuno-Marinakis relationship started to be obvious in mid-August when Nuno Criticised the club’s summer transfer dealings and expressed fear and concern for the coming season.
“I always had a very good relationship with the owner, last season was very close,” the Portuguese said.
“This season, not so well. No, it’s not [good].
The former Forest’s head coach said he as still in through communication with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and declared his commitment to continue to manage the London club.
“I don’t know exactly, but I’m being honest with you. I cannot say that is the same, because it’s not the same. The reason behind it, I don’t know.
“I always believe that dialogue and what you say or your opinion, is always valid, because my concern is the squad and the season that we have ahead of us, but our relations have changed.
“The reality is that is not what it used to be. What it used to be was a good, respectful relationship, but was more based on trust and sharing opinions and now it’s not so good.”
