  • Gen. Yakubu Gowon Says Two Christian Friends in Plateau Betrayed Him in New Memoir

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd.), has revealed that two of his Christian friends from Plateau State betrayed him, saying the experience remains one of the painful memories of his life.

Gowon made the revelation in his newly launched memoir, My Life of Duty, unveiled in Abuja during a ceremony attended by prominent national figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, former Heads of State, senior military officers, diplomats, and other distinguished guests.

In the book, the former Head of State recalled that two of his Christian friends in Plateau State abandoned and betrayed him, noting that the incident left a lasting emotional impact.

According to Gowon, despite the passage of time, he still feels the pain of what he described as their betrayal.

The elder statesman explained that one of the major reasons for writing My Life of Duty was to correct what he described as longstanding misconceptions and inaccurate interpretations about his life, his leadership, and the policies of his administration.

He said the memoir offers his personal account of key events in Nigeria

  • Three Years After Lalong Left Office, Nigerians Reflect on His Legacy

Three years after the administration of former Plateau State Governor Simon Bako Lalong came to an end, residents and political observers have continued to reflect on his eight-year tenure, with discussions centering on his achievements, shortcomings, and overall legacy.

Across social media platforms and public forums, many Nigerians have been asking a common question: "Three years after the Lalong administration ended, what stands out most to you about his time in office?"

The question has generated diverse reactions, with some respondents highlighting infrastructure development, road construction, educational reforms, and efforts to promote peaceful coexistence during his administration.

Others, however, pointed to persistent security challenges, economic concerns, unemployment, and governance issues, arguing that these remain among the defining aspects of Lalong

abuja —

Public health experts are redefining their entire field today. Furthermore, a radical transformation is happening right now globally. For over a century, doctors targeted specific, identifiable enemies.

They eradicated isolated infectious diseases with powerful vaccines. Additionally, surgeons drastically improved operative outcomes for many patients.

Healthcare providers also managed chronic metabolic conditions effectively. Today, however, completely new threats seriously endanger global wellbeing. These modern dangers rarely stay confined within the laboratory.

Consequently, typical neighborhood clinics cannot contain these complex problems. Instead, modern threats target humans in entirely unexpected ways.

Environmental factors directly threaten our daily lives and safety. Technological advancements also introduce highly unique modern risks. Moreover, severe psychological stressors deeply harm our collective mental state.

As time progresses, three distinct crises actively reshape global health. First, relentless global warming impacts dangerous disease vectors heavily. Second, wearable health technology experiences explosive consumer market growth. Consequently, massive corporations commodify our private biometric data daily.

Third, an always-on digital culture extracts heavy psychological tolls. Understanding these destructive forces desperately demands our immediate attention.

Therefore, acquiring this knowledge is not mere academic trivia. Actually, it remains a fundamental requirement for human survival. Navigating modern life successfully requires this specific, ongoing awareness.

A Warming World: The Climate Crisis
People frequently imagine sweeping ecological imagery regarding climate change. For instance, they picture melting polar ice caps vividly. Furthermore, they visualize rapidly rising sea levels swallowing cities.

They also think about extreme weather events quite frequently. However, shifting global temperatures make a profound physical impact. Specifically, climate change writes its damage directly onto human bodies.

Therefore, global warming creates far more than environmental disasters. It arguably represents our most significant health emergency today. Public health officials currently face an unprecedented global crisis.

The Dangerous Migration of Tropical Diseases
Historically, local geography provided a highly reliable natural barrier. This geographical barrier easily stopped specific contagious human pathogens.

Tropical diseases desperately require specific warm climates for survival. These humid climates successfully sustain the lifecycles of disease vectors. Primarily, mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas aggressively spread these illnesses.

However, average global temperatures continue to rise every year. Consequently, global weather patterns become increasingly erratic and unpredictable. Expanding geographical borders now allow insect survival almost everywhere.

Expanding Latitudes and Altitudes
Various mosquito species now thrive in entirely new regions. For example, Aedes aegypti expands its previously limited territory. Similarly, Aedes albopictus boldly invades previously cold geographical areas.

These specific insects aggressively transmit dangerous diseases to humans. They rapidly spread Dengue fever, Zika virus, and Chikungunya globally.

Currently, these pests survive in once-temperate zones easily. We now witness indigenous transmission across Western Europe regularly. Furthermore, North America suddenly experiences these frightening disease outbreaks.

Higher altitudes in South America also face unexpected infections. Africa sees similar patterns in its cooler mountainous regions.

Lengthened Transmission Seasons
Disease vectors do not merely move into new territories. They also remain highly active for much longer periods. Warmer winters heavily extend typical insect breeding seasons.

Consequently, mosquitoes and ticks multiply much faster today. This specific extension exponentially increases the human infection window.

Therefore, local communities face longer periods of disease vulnerability. Overwhelmed health systems struggle to manage these extended outbreaks. Furthermore, modern prevention strategies require costly year-round funding.

Flooding and Waterborne Pathogens

Shifting weather patterns also bring severe extreme precipitation events. Consequently, heavy flooding overwhelms municipal sewage systems quite regularly.

This dirty floodwater aggressively contaminates local drinking water supplies. Therefore, these precise conditions create absolutely perfect pathogen breeding grounds.

Dangerous waterborne diseases multiply rapidly in these heavily flooded areas. Cholera outbreaks actively threaten vulnerable communities with compromised infrastructure.

Similarly, Typhoid fever spreads incredibly quickly through severely contaminated sources. Previously, confident health officials considered these specific pathogens entirely eradicated.

Now, however, these terrible diseases steadily return to vulnerable regions. Communities must urgently rebuild their essential water purification systems. Otherwise, unprotected residents will face continuous deadly health emergencies.

The Assault on Respiratory Health
Beyond infectious diseases, climate change deeply threatens our lungs. Rising temperatures aggressively launch a direct assault on breathing. Consequently, extreme weather fundamentally alters our clean atmospheric air.

Smog and Air Quality
Intense heatwaves significantly increase dangerous ground-level ozone production. This toxic ozone creates dense city smog very quickly. Consequently, urban residents breathe heavily polluted air every day.

Asthma sufferers experience far more frequent, highly severe attacks. Furthermore, previously healthy individuals develop new respiratory complications constantly.

Wildfires and Particulate Matter
Additionally, prolonged regional droughts fuel massive, highly destructive wildfires. These intense fires release microscopic particulate matter continuously.

Strong winds aggressively carry this toxic smoke across continents. People unknowingly inhale these tiny, highly dangerous particles indoors. The toxic smoke damages delicate human lung tissues quickly. Therefore, crowded hospital emergency rooms see massive spikes in breathing problems.

Allergens and Extended Seasons
Warmer temperatures also significantly lengthen seasonal allergy periods yearly. Native plants naturally produce much more pollen than before. Furthermore, increased atmospheric carbon dioxide fuels aggressive plant growth. Consequently, vulnerable allergy sufferers endure immensely prolonged symptom flare-ups. This constant irritation heavily weakens overall human respiratory defenses.

Wearable Technology and Biometric Data
The explosive growth of wearable health technology continues today. Millions eagerly strap expensive smartwatches onto their wrists mornings. These digital devices track our beating heart rates continuously. Furthermore, they closely monitor our deep sleep patterns nightly.

The Commodification of Health Data
Enthusiastic users generate unprecedented amounts of personal health data. Subsequently, giant tech companies collect this intimate biometric information.

They shamelessly commodify our physical statistics for corporate profits. Consequently, shady third-party advertisers purchase our sensitive health profiles. This specific practice naturally raises severe personal privacy concerns.

Surveillance and Autonomy
Relentless corporate surveillance aggressively invades our private physical spaces. We willingly trade our strict medical privacy for convenience.

Furthermore, greedy insurance companies heavily analyze this biometric data. They potentially raise monthly premiums based solely on wearable metrics. Therefore, individuals slowly lose absolute control over their bodies.

We must actively demand much stricter regulations for data protection. Otherwise, our private human biology simply becomes corporate assets.

The Insidious Psychological Toll
The busy modern world actively creates a relentless digital culture. Consequently, this toxic environment extracts an insidious psychological toll. People remain constantly connected to their glowing digital devices.

The Always-On Digital Culture
Modern smartphones demand our completely unwavering attention every minute. Popular social media platforms engineer highly addictive infinite scrolling. Furthermore, constant negative news alerts trigger severe human anxiety.

People almost rarely disconnect from the noisy digital world. Therefore, our overworked brains never achieve true, restful downtime.

Rising Anxiety and Depression
This perpetual connectivity severely damages our collective mental health. Consequently, diagnosed anxiety rates skyrocket rapidly among younger generations.

Clinical depression also heavily affects millions in our modern society. The immense pressure to present perfectly curated lives exhausts everyone.

Furthermore, cruel cyberbullying creates inescapable torment for vulnerable teenagers.

The Need for Digital Boundaries
Concerned psychiatrists clearly recognize this severe digital overload crisis. They strongly recommend establishing very strict boundaries around device usage.

We must bravely reclaim our fractured attention from tech companies. Additionally, local communities desperately need quiet spaces free from digital intrusion. Public health initiatives must aggressively address mental wellbeing quite urgently.

Navigating the Modern Health Landscape
The accepted definition of public health absolutely requires constant evolution. We simply cannot rely on outdated twentieth-century medical models. Instead, we must boldly confront these incredibly complex, interconnected crises.

A Call to Action

Severe climate change boldly demands highly aggressive global environmental action. Furthermore, fragile data privacy requires incredibly robust legislative protection immediately. Mental health support desperately needs massive, sustained public funding increases.

Embracing a New Paradigm
Every individual must clearly understand these complex modern health forces. Consequently, accessible education remains our absolute strongest defense against illness.

We must actively adapt our daily behaviors to this new reality. In conclusion, merely surviving today strongly demands constant vigilance and awareness. We will successfully overcome these tough challenges through massive collective effort.
