Southern California has been hit with fierce wildfire, since yesterday, as a result of an unprecedented dry and windy condition.

Reports have had it that minimum of five people are dead and many more have sustained various degrees of injury as fires erupted across Southern California.

A number of thousands of firefighters are battling to not less than five major wildfires wreaking havoc around Los Angeles area, including smaller blazes.

Thousands of building have been destroyed and more than 100,000 people have evacuated the area, reports say.

Following ongoing Southern California wildfires

On Wednesday night, five major active wildfires were listed by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The destructive wildfires are said to begin in the Pacific palisades area of the city two days ago, Tuesday, 7th January, 2025.

Since then, it has burnt 17,234 acres of land and none of it has been put under the control by the fire authority so far.

.The active wildfires, for two days, have destroyed more than 1,000 buildings or structures

According to reports, the Eaton Fire, north of Pasedna, started on Tuesday, it has expanded to 10,600 acres of land and it is yet to be subjected under control.

In Pasedna, up to 500 structures have been destroyed and still counting.

The Hurst Fire in Sylmar, northwest of San Fernando, also started on Tuesday and has burnt 855 acres of land, but it is at 10% containment.

The Fire at Lidia started on Wednesday, on the northwest of the Angeles National Forest. It has expanded to 348 acres of land and it is 40% controlled.

The Sunset Fire erupted above the West Hollywood yesterday, Wednesday. It covers 43 acres and at 0% subjection.

Reported 7,500 firefighters have been deployed to put out the fire, according to Newsom.

Via X, California State Governor Gavin Newsom said more than 7,500 firefighters were deployed to battle a serious of wildfire in the state as of Wednesday night.

Firefighting operatives are “working with local and federal partners to respond to California’s ongoing historic wildfires,” he said.

“Southern California residents − please remain vigilant tonight,” Newsom added.

“Listen to local officials and be ready to evacuate if you’re near impacted areas.”

Blackout As 373,000 Without Electricity

Reported 373,000 have lost their access to electricity across California as of Wednesday night as wildfires rage on in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles County is said to be worst affected, recording over 207,857 electricity users disconnected as of 11:15 pm.

65,186 customers were also reported to be without electricity in Ventura County, 45,664 in Riverside County and 32,826 in San Bernardino County.

According to other reports, Orange County recorded 7,358 users without electricity as of Wednesday night, while 10,805 had been disconnected in San Diego County.

Sunset Fire In Hollywood Hills Extends To 50 Acres Of Land

The most current outbreak of fire in Los Angeles−the Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills−has extended to 50 acres of land, but officials have disclosed that firefighters are winning the war against it.

Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson Margaret Steward said in an interview with KABC that firefighters are in a “much better place” than they were initially in the evening because they have been able to weaken the fierce proliferation of the fire by dropping water from the air.

Reports, also, from LA County Sheriff’s Department in the evening of Wednesday indicated that the most intense fire operation was carried out on the southwestern side of the fire.

“On the eastern side, there are active flames within the interior of the fire, but the perimeter is holding well thanks to a fire road and ground crews in place,” the Sheriff’s department said.

US President Biden Cancels Italy Trip for LA Fires

United States President Joe Biden has cancelled hid official trip to Italy amidst the active Los Angeles fires, according to the White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday.

Jean-Pierre stressed that Biden will instead “remain focused on directing the full federal response in the days ahead.”

California Fire Updates: Mandatory Evacuation Looms

Biden’s decision came following his return from Los Angeles area on Wednesday, where he received briefing from local law enforcement.

Biden had been initially scheduled to leave for Rome on Thursday to meet with Pope, Italian leaders and their Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

In the statement of an LA official who compares the fire outbreak situation to ‘a third-world country,’ “It’s like a third-world country out there,” said chair of the LA County, Kathryn Barger.

The LA County chair called the Eaton Fire−which at the time covered 10,600 acres of Land with 0% containment−unlike anything she had ever seen.

“We are prone to wildfires, but nothing like what I witnessed today,” she said.

She indicated that the local sheriff’s station had been inhabited before telling those affected:

“You are not alone” and instructing the public to lean on one another, to reach out and “love thy neighbor.”

Kristin Crowley, Los Angeles Fire Department Chief, noted that the Eaton Fire had been placed under close monitoring.

“If it does come into the city, we are ready,” she said.

She assured the public that the firefighters and the first responders are committed to safeguarding life and property while she noted that the wind-propelled fires were expected to continue into the night.

This statement came a few moments before the Sunset fire began in the Hollywood Hills, adding additional 10,000 acres of land to the reported almost 27,000 already burning in the Southern California.

Source Of Eaton Fire Under Investigation

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone alongside Mayor Karen at a press conference disclosed that the source of the Eaton Fire remains “unknown.”

He stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation, vowing that those involved would be apprehended that he smelt a foul play.

More than 750 fire personnel are deployed on the front lines of Eaton Fire, he stated, citing five deaths, many injuries and over 1,000 buildings have been damaged.

As the fires continue to proliferate, he revealed that LA was requesting additional aid from Northern California and the neighboring states, indicating that over 100 united are already on their way for assistance.

Amidst Immense Firefight, Woodley Fire Is Contained.

Woodley Fire, one of the five active fires throughout Wednesday afternoon which covered over 30 acres of land, had been contained.

California Fire Updates: Mandatory Evacuation Looms

This disclosure was made by LA Mayor Karen Bass in an early evening update on the Los Angeles County Fire.

She, however, cautioned: “We are very much still in an active firefight.”

This statement came a few moments before the eruption of a new fire in the Holly wood Hills: the Sunset Fire.

But, fortunately, the wind had subsidized which cushioned the destructive effects of the wildfire.

“We are fighting for you,” Bass said.

The expressed gratitude to everyone who honored the evacuation order and suggested that further might come subsequently.

Regardless of the challenges and unknowns, she assured the public that she was in touch with both President Joe Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“They assured me of full federal and state support,” she said.

“Make no mistake, Los Angeles will rebuild,” she added.

Explosive Fire Prompted Evacuation Order

The fiercely proliferating Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills has prompted an evacuation for a largely populated area of the city.

The rapid evacuation order extends to an area bounded by Laurel Canyon Boulevard to the west, Mulholland Drive to the north, the 101 Freeway to the east and down to Hollywood Boulevard to the south, according to the LA Fire Department.

In the statement of Margaret Steward, LAFD public information officer, disclosed that some 20 more fire engines are on their way, describing it a “very dynamic situation” and an “explosive fire” that has “blown up in Runyon Canyon.”
