Balli Jaswal’s Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows – A Review presents a fascinating and intriguing erotic adventure of the Punjabi Widows. The author, Balli Kaur Jaswal did justice to the stories of the portrayed characters.

“She doesn’t like it because she’s like everyone else.’ Alwinder said.
“All those people who say, ‘Take no notice of those widows. Without their husbands, they are irrelevant.”

Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows – Don’t lie.
The title caught your eye. Right?

To be honest, the title is what attracted me to the novel. Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows is exactly what the title says it is. Sassy, witty, funny, heartwarming, mysterious and spiced with steamy erotic stories in between characters.

There’s a bit of everything for just about everyone in this one. Love, erotica, intimacy, murder, mystery, honour killings, culture, the pros and cons of arranged marriages, family expectations, and the pressures that come from living in closely knitted communities, are some of the issues this book addresses.

“His throbbing organ was the colour and size of an aubergine, and as she gripped it with her hands and guided it towards her mouth, he became so excited that his knees began to shake.”

That is the kind of erotic stories the women in this story create.

    DESCRIPTION

Title: Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows
    Author: Balli Kaur Jaswal
    Number of Pages: 276
    Published By: HarperCollins Publishers Ltd
    Year of Publication: 2017

Set in the Punjabi enclave of the Sikh community in Southhall London, the story is centred around Nikki, a modern Punjabi young lady, born and raised in England.

A law school dropout, she jumps at a chance to earn some extra money by applying to teach creative writing classes at the Sikh temple.

Unknown to her, her students are mostly illiterate Punjabi widows looking to kill boredom by signing up for the classes. The classes soon turn into erotic storytelling meetings.

The Punjabi widows in this novel felt unseen and unheard, and creating these stories together gave them some meaning and self-worth, as well as stirring up the disapproval and annoyance of the Brothers, a self-appointed Brotherhood, monitoring the behaviour and conduct of the women in the society.

At first, Nikki is shocked and surprised by the steamy erotic romances that these women come up with, but soon she realizes how biased she and everyone else is being towards these women, putting them in a box.

This is one of the issues that the book tackles. In most societies, a woman’s value is mostly based solely on her roles as a sex object and a caregiver to her husband and children, and when are a woman doesn’t quite fit into those roles, she is oftentimes treated with pity or disdain.

You most certainly don’t imagine your grandmother has sexual fantasies or fetishes, do you?

The book is full of perspectives from women who have to live through traditions that see sexual intimacy as something that is a taboo subject, not to be talked about, only to be engaged in the dark of the night. The characters seemed real, interesting, complex and quite relatable.

And if you are one of those who does not enjoy reading sexual text, the erotic stories are written separately with a different font type from the main story, so you can easily identify the stories and skip them if you so wish.

Read this if you are in the mood for a light read that tackles substantial topics from a feminist perspective, with some explicit sexual content, then you should absolutely read this.

    For me, it’s a ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
